you confuse fundamentalism with the fundamentals of a religion
"Fundamentalism is the demand for a strict adherence to specific theological doctrines usually understood as a reaction against Modernist theology, combined with a vigorous attack on outside threats to their religious culture."
WE ARE ALL FUNDAMENTALISTS?????? i DONT THINK SO MR.
this guy Gary needs to WAKE UP! He totally missed the entire point of the book and is simply going on against it b/c he's so paranoid about his own faith that he'd rather point out how Frank Shaeffer is insane that look at his own mental state which by his arguments I wouldn't let this guy be in charge of cleaning my pool
Your first assertion (in the video) that "everyone is a fundamentalist" is inaccurate. Even the non-religious related definition of fundamentalist which is the "strict adherence to any set of basic ideas or principles" does NOT apply to most people. Anyone with a degree of intelligence-- who practices critical thinking, maintains an open mind-- is curious to explore other perspectives, and doesn't see life as a command to adhere to sets of man-made rules with robotic submission.
I've had 55 years of evangelicalism: fundamentalism (funnymentalism as some refer to it) Holiness, Pentalcostalism, Calvinism, etc. I could write a book on it and most of it wouldn't be good. They want to BE good, but don't want to DO good. Only believe and live as you see fit. Currently evangelicalism is "every man doing that which is good in his own eyes", just at in the book of Judges.
Is a scientist a fundamentalist, for instance? I would say no, as a scientist you have foundations, but you're always skeptical about everything. When there is peer- reviewed evidence, then you're willing to change your mind! Look at Darwin: He wasn't this "I'm an Atheist and will now show on my voyage how things really went" - not at all; he changed his mind due to evidence; unlike fundamentalists who never admit that this silly 6000 year approach is wrong!
Actually Schaeffer makes some vallad points. By not giving him any credit whatsoever it seems that your proving his point. Fundamentalism doesn't know how to process information outside of its own subculture.
@unimackpass Would you care to demonstrate some examples of valid points that the evangelical community makes and Frankie Schaeffer gives them credit? Frankie likes to make the claim that he was a leader of the religious right. I was an Agnostic Anarchist during the 80's and I knew who Pat Robertson, D.James Kennedy and Jerry Fallwell were, but no one I knew knew who Frankie Schaeffer was. Just because you stand in the shadows of leaders doesn't make you a leader.
My rule of thumb: Be suspicious of and generally try to avoid anyone, whether professing Christian or not, who uses the word "fundamentalist" (i.e. Christian fundamentalist) in a negative, pejorative manner. Those who do so are almost always, at best, theological liberals or, at worst, out-right Christianity haters.

I deeply disagree about his view:

I was in bible school in in 1981 and we all knew of him. We have left the gospel and turned into culture warriors.

Sounds to me like he just isn't converted.

Frank Schaeffer ceased to be an Evangelical years ago. Just face it, he's another apostate just like Bart Ehrman & Ted Haggard.
