Canada don't use Abrams for a ton of reasons, one of them is it would make Canada look too much like an american army hell people already confuse the C7 with the m16. Second the leopard is better atleast the 2a6 is, then the m1 a lot of tank these days are and thats fact hell your m1 even use german gear such as the 120mm smoothbore canon. Canada has bought 100 of these tanks from the Dutch surplus and 20 on contract from Germany. I think that some of the 100 are older models but will in time be upgraded to the 2A6M. Finaly the Canadian DOD has made the right choice in getting the Leopard 2A6M as it is the best tank in the world! I would like to see Canada have 200 of these bad boys!

the reason is simple: The guns are not produced in germany, they're made in America UNDER LICENSE. Same stupid rule applies for the Stryker - the thing is almost entirely built in canada, but then assembled in america so it may be used by the military - as it's "made" in america. I think that's one of the past burdens from the independence war or the cold war or so - a law accepted once and never taken back
