I wondered when I heard this song for the first time if Yvonne wrote it thinking about the murder in Queens NY of Kitty Genovese. Being a New Yorker certainly Kenny would have known of the incident in 1964 when Kitty was attacked, sexually assaulted, and murdered as she walked from her parked car. The assault lasted thirty-five minutes and occurred outside of an apartment building where a reported 38 witnesses either heard or saw the attack and did nothing to stop it.
I'm a Kenny Rankin fan, I was so bummed to find out that he passed on :( This man has a beautiful voice and really feels the music. I feel as if he never really got the recognition that he deserved. I actually learned of this song while stumbling onto 3 Kenny Rankin records in the dollar section at Amoeba here in LA. I sampled it and made a beat out of it in honor of the great Mr. Rankin, travel well my friend :)
