Nils is so important-he played with Grin,he was the base and rocker of the Crazy Horse Band(where would Neil be without ..) and after a very long sabatical Nils joined the E Street Band, also playing his own songs with the Boss accompaniying him.
Nils is one of the four greatest ever-Carlos,Jimi and Nils and the Edge.
If you want to buy copys of the old Grin stuff on CD or even old school Vinyl Bob Berberich the singer/drummer for Grin runs a record store in Baltimore MD called Trax on Wax. He will even sign copys if asked..a super nice guy and a real lost legend of rock n roll
So underated.Last saw him at Warwick Uni where some scumbag stole his scarf whilst he was signing autographs. I note this venue is not on his current tour. If you havn't already check out Girl In Motion from the Nils Lofgren Band Live, must be one of the best guitor solos ever. Play which ever one you like at my funeral
Can anybody out there post "It's not a crime" from the "Cry Tough" album and "If I say it, it, so" - the fatso album cover had so many hits "Two by Two," "I don't wanna know" appreciate anybody able to post these classics.
This is from the DVD "Nils Lofgren & Friends Live Acoustic".
Nils Lofgren & Friends Live Acoustic
Recorded live Feb. 17, 18 & 19, 2006 at the Birchmere, Alexandria, VA.
And ... Stuart went above in 2001. On top of that, I wonder how people seem to have so much fun and playing that type of music in a funeral. Maybe only an acoustic guitar and a voice, maybe... but not like this. It would be crazy.
@monkeyguitarist I don't think that Tomiettinen meant that this exactly performance of the song was played at his funeral. The album version was released in 79 and is said to be Adamsons favourite song. A quick visit to Google revealed that the song indeed was played at the funeral. It was probably the album version that was played. Btw, funerals are never fun. The are emotional so this kind of song is nothing strange on such occation. :)
hi, i hate talk of death and stuff on here but unfortunately it seems inevitable. certain songs are always gonna have certain inevitabilities. if anyone knows nils its my old mans 80th next year and he's got his own story of tragedy...leading to positivity
Same here. 2 years later I was at pinkpop (i missed his name when I saw 2 meter) and I hummed the song, and Jan Douwe knew it right away, gave me the double-cd for free! And we had a great talk about this... Man that solo on 2-meter sessions> How I would love to see that clip again! Good to know you were also impressed!
i love this song ,i just wish nils would stick to the original vocal delivery from the studio version. nils is great though and has written some of the best songs ever given to the planet ,that i totally agree with.
I love Nils and Springsteen and I honestly think they need eachother to achieve that extra greatness. Listen to Springsteens backin vocals on Valentine and nils guitar on Youngstown for example. Pure gold!
Nils can thank The Hollies for this amazing song, No disrespect, Nils is fantastic. I always wondered why he settled for being Springsteen's guitar player.
thanks for the post. he is the greatest. never saw him live. it's a shame. my 5 year old daughter and i sit around and listen to him constantly. she loves his voice!
Nils is one of the VERY best musicians. On guitar, piano, few can top him. He's older than me by a fair amount, but used to live right up the road from where I've lived-- still do, in Maryland. I'd love to see more of him on piano. A rare tinkling treat!
This song and "No Mercy" are Nil's best, he is so talented it nearly brings tears to my eyes when I see him play and see him putting so much feeling into it! He deserves more credit than he is given! Thanks for putting this clip on, totally awesome1
yes bruce, give nils the room to do this great song during your tour. And with some of these friends. Would be a great tribute to a great singer/songwriter/guitarist and I assume friend of yours
I agree definitively with you. I WANT SO BADLY TO HEAR NILS, BRUCE AND THE E STREET BAND PERFORMING "Shine Silently", "Goin' Back", "Back it up", "I came to dance" or "Keith don't go"... He wrote so many good songs...
Bruce singing "I came to dance"...would be an instant classic....it's always a classic with Nils for me...but jesus...if Bruce covered it with Nils playing...it's all good..:-)
I'm so glad I re-introduced this great song to you, before, and then again tonight after finding this fantastic live version. Great quality, great performance building to a brilliant finish. One day I'll try and upload the great version he performed at Bruce's Xmas gig at Asbury Park a few years ago. I'm glad you liked it so much. I.L.U. xxxJJJxxx
Should have mentioned that I saw him in the hotel restaurant the next day and told him how much I enjoyed the song. He said it was his mom's favorite !
Hello Lilmizmex. I may seems a little naive or simple-minded message, but, I wanted to say I am sorry for your loss and if this video could help a little bit to go through the sad period, I should be glad. (sprry for the bad english)
i lost my aunite in december 2 cancer, this song was her favourite and was played at the crematorium, it meens a lot 2 me. and i come on here to listen to it all the time!

Best version by a long shot!

@monkeyguitarist I thought this song was originally on an album released in 1979 - so it could easily have been played at Stuart Adamsons funeral.

@tomiettinen You're correct - it was Stuart's favourite tune. Shine Silently was written in the late 70s...

Shine Silently (Special 12" Mix) 5:50 Written-By - Dick Wagner , Nils Lofgren <---- OK ??
It's The Hollies who have to thanks Nils. No disrecpect for The Hollies.
Nils is more than a genious guitarist, the man beside Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Ringo Starr, Roy Buchanan, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc...
He did wrote some of the best songs that one could hear on Earth and is the leader of his own band.
