I'm a guy who has played nothing but Angus Young styled blues rock for 12 years...Giving this a go and it feels like I'm learning to play the guitar all over again :D Yay! I'm 20 again :p
Fuck man why cant rock go back to the way it was, matter of fact why cant the ways of life go back to the way it was, guarantee everyone was having way more fun when this shit dropped
Eddie Van Halen is the reason ANYBODY still picks up the guitar nowadays. None of that fuckin dubstep or electronic vocalization bullshit. It's all about the real instruments and talent put into learning them.
@bbutters2 no. you can't compare legends to legends. They have different styles and thoughts. Saying that is like saying....what u just said and saying that makes you sounds stupid and immature. When someone reaches legendary status, they are one of a kind and never can be compared.
where you think Eruption belongs on the skill-level-ladder? - Chuck Norris - Asians - God - insane - super awesome - very hard - hard - medium - easy - very easy - Justin Bieber
To be honest (and I know I'm going to get trolled for saying this) but I feel like the earlier portion of this track just sounds like poorly constructed "widdly-widdly" parts. I love Eddie Van Halen but this is much better live.
Tapping, OK, when used as a musical technique, i.e. Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Malmsteen, acceptable. When used as an excuse to play fast, i.e. every high school guitarist in America, very VERY unacceptable.
@remotenightowl good thing no one needs your approval..Maybe playing fast as u can for no reason is something fun and enjoyable to do not to mention builds strength in fingers so when the time comes maybe the ones practicing like that all the time will be able to play a aweosme solo in a good song or put on a great live performance that someone will enjoy.. no need to be so uptight about guitar. : )
@TheDragonfly1987, I was stating fact so idiot's who say "tapping isn't really playing the guitar" and "tapping takes no skill" will shut up... I'm not up tight, I'm just making a point...
@Bassbait, as far a Buckethead is concerned, he is a fucking god, to the point though, he taps tri-tones primarily, so there is music theory behind him as well...
@remotenightowl His tapping isn't entirely tritonal. He does have tritones a lot in his tapping, but if you watch him play, he will play chromatically when it fits. It tends to fit into tritones, but he'll often slide his left hand up the neck at points. I've been trying to learn how to tap like him, and while I can kind of tap with three fingers, I'm nowhere NEAR his speed. He's pro, anybody who wants to be a shredder should love him.
Hey everyone, feel free to check my cover of Eruption, it's in the video responses section, I'd really appreciate some comments! Thanks, and rock on!! \m/
Shut up and Listen to the music!! and to those of you that are saying crap about Eddie Van Halen stop! If you don't like him then why are you waist your fucking time listining to this song!
if you are trying to compare Gary Moore and David Gilmour then you're an idiot, there is a phenomenological difference between what they play/wrote and they're both exceptional guitarists. Also don't forget music moves on, Clapton may be overrated now but back in the day he was the shiz. It would be like me saying Steve Vai finger tap's better than Van Halen - but Van Halen started it, ergo our argument is null. Good day to you sirs. :P
@MrSplinter221 Clapton still has the thing that made him 'God' in the 60s. For example, when he played the White Room solo in the 2005 Cream re-union, or the Presence of the Lord solo from the MSG concert in 2009 with Steve Winwood, or pretty much every time he knocks out the original arrangement of Layla. Brian May, although people have no idea about this, actually tapped early on in the 70s as well (when he was let loose).
Good, but OVERRATED! Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Eric Clapton (EVH's insipiration), George Terry, Steve Vai, Marty Friedman, Doug Aldrich, Ritchie Blackmore, Randy Rhoads...
All better than Mr Oh Look I Can Tap playing here.
@SlowhandSolos to be fair, clapton is overraed as fuck, I like him (namely cream) but he is definately overrated, and you choose to single out one facet of eddies playing (albeit his trademark) what about all the highly technical playing during verses? stdfreesteve is correct however - don't forget Mr. Gilmour (of the greatest band ever fame). Do you play? Is this the green-eyed monster coming into effect? or do you opine on things of which you have no experience? long live EVH!
@commradedave Okay, lets look at Gary Moore (2nd fastest blues rocker and certainly the most emotional and melodic) and Doug Aldrich (fastest blues rocker and incredibly melodic). Gary Moore owns David Gilmour and Doug Aldrich is just out of this world.
Also, without Clapton, Van Halen would be nothing. And if you think Clapton's overrated, listen to Crossroads by Cream, or mayber Sunshine of Your Love from the 24 Nights album, or maybe Have You Ever Loved a Woman from EC Was Here. He is god.
@SlowhandSolos mate, i already said I listen to cream, disreali gears is a monster of an album, but in my opinion Clapton is overrated. And Gilmour shits all over Gary Moore. Gary Moore did nothing anywhere close to anything that Gilmour did.
@commradedave And Doug Aldrich? The most melodic shredder ever, also writes great songs, from heavy rock to rock ballads. Also, Gary Moore clearly writes the most incredibly soulful and melodic music ever. Parisienne Walkways, when played live, shows off that guy's skill. If you think Gilmour is that good in comparison, you don't know what Gary Moore. No Yanks have ever heard of him, or they just know him as 'that Thin Lizzy guy'. Well, he is way more than just that.
@SlowhandSolos I resent that you assume I am American. But more to the point, David Gilmour has contributed more to the world of music than ANY shredder. Did any of these other guitarists have anything to do with Dark Side of The Moon? No. I rest my case.
@commradedave I agree that Gilmour has contributed more to music, but that doesn't make him good. Jeff Healey would've in SRV's words, 'revolutionised he way the guitar will be played' except he didn't because of how well-known he was. Just because Gilmour has changed music doesn't make him ultimate. Also, I think Yngwie Malmsteen has seriously changed modern rock, as he invented shredding shredding (I'd credit Blackmore and Duane Allman for that) and has invented the metal solo as we know it.
@SlowhandSolos good shout on ritchie Blackmore though, deep purple are the dogs bollocks! you ever heard that track Gary Moore done with Thin Lizzy? quite good if my memory serves me (which it rarely does). Also, you should check out the brian jonestown massacre, they are quality.
