About 25 yrs ago, I was fishing off of Dan Russel pier. There was a female Hammerhead about 10 feet long that cruised up and down the beach all day long. She had come in to the shallows in order to give birth to her pups. She was as big around as a volkswagon! There were many frustrated fisherman out there that day as the shark turned her nose up at everything thrown at her. Also, the beach was full of tourist that day. In fact, she swam right up under several people without them knowing it!
Great video! I don't suppose you'd let me post it over on my website at panama city people dot com would you? I just started it. It's a social website for local residents. I'll be glad to link it over to your website if you have one... how bout it?
dont worry there not that dangerous, i was born and raised here lived here my entire life pretty much grew up in the gulf, im honestly more scared of the giant @%# stingrays in packs that swim a mere 5-10 feet offshore in the breaking waves, there not aggresive but if your in the way and they accidentally catch you with their stinger it can be VERY painful from what ive heard, i used to throw my skimboard at them all the time and they just swim away
All bs aside tho there is tons of sharks usually catch them early morning late afternoon can also land them when there feeding on bait fish ! So i know there alot of morons that go to the beach to educate You this means Don't go swimming during prime feeding times for these animals and stay out of bait fish when your swimming ! Don't swim early morning or late afternoons and nights since this is when the animals feed mostly !
yes there tons of sharks in the florida waters !!!! tourist stay away are you might get your leg or arms tore off !!!! Haha You stand a better chance being killed in a car wreck heading to the beach then getting bit by a shark ! Practice catch and release Don't kill the sharks its the only thing keeping more yankee's from moving in to Florida .
this is amzing.. a shark that close and those ppl dnt even know it lol.. this is good evidence tho that sharks aint jus man killers out for human flesh. ^_^ its so pretty. However if that had been me and i seen it i woulda had to mess with ppl and scream shark haha =)
dont you think for one second hammer heads arent violent they can be just down right man and that was a good size one but i have seen bigger seen a 1300 pounder caught just outside Tampa bay a few years ago, their animals and can and will attack be rspectfull when your near them and give them their space.
ive lived here most my life. hammerheads are common in this area but they dont usually bother people. if your worried about it, just stay around other people and dont go too far out and you should be fine.
@Speedj2 i kno my mom told my bro to NOT go out far cause my friend AK and i told my parents there was shark. that day my brother got 18 stitches because of effin'; with it
Just don't go too far out to be swept away. Clearly it was just swimming by to say hello since n o one was hurt. There's a risk to everything even in a man made pool. I like the video though! Looks like yall had a blast.
i was in the jetties skimboarding and a baby shark jumped outat the water! and i followed him!!!! like for real people fish on the jetties right next to the kitty pool... not cool fish go in there all the time
Ive been living in PCB for twelve years now, and hammerheads are not what you need to be afraid of. Bull sharks are responsible for most attacks worldwide and are in abundance here.
I'm going to Panama City in about a week and now I'm kind of scared about the water.. just because the shark was 50 feet from the actual beach... that is REALLY closee!! :/
@DaJulioShow Dont worry about it. The only Marine Life Other than fish Ive ever seen there was a Manta Ray. And that was one day. We never saw it again. Ive been going for over 10 years.
I love the panama city beach. it's so clear and pretty. i went to destin once and all the beaches we went to were full of seaweed and dead fish and it was unpleasant
Glad to see this, It will be a relic of what a beautiful place Panama city beach was. The greed of the oil companies is about to shut down the entire Gulf. This can be the before shot!! God help the Gulf
Yeah, they're out there. It's their home ya know. And about the jetties, you can see anything out there. My favorites are the dolphins and sting rays. Just walking along the coast I've had several rays swim right by my feet.
And whoever said Destin beaches better... Booooooooooo to you! But I could just be saying that because this is home to me.
There are more varities of sharks in the gulf of mexico then anywhere in the world. Hammerheads are non aggressive towards human. Mainly because their mouth is on the bottom. They jump and land on top of their prey cause they cant eat straight on. nothing to worry about
No, I don't think anyone saw the Hammerhead, but the next day the people that rent out the Sea-doo's were talking about a big shark. Just assumed it was the one on the video.
The beaches are the exactly the same just a few miles between the two. I've stayed at both numerous times and my personal preference is Panama City Beach.
I heard the pros / cons between Destin and Panama , , Destin is cleaner , prettier , etcccc . source : Several who's able to travel all over USA and the world , there job is to figure out which beach is the best . .....The number one beach ...DESTIN .....
i agree with you ruck panama city beach is definetly the best. exspecially and st andrews state park. we go there ever year and have been for about 6 years now. its funny how i came across this video. the whole reason im coming is for shark fishing off the jetties. thanks for the vid
Nice video. We usually stay at Splash every year. Usually around the 16th floor and every morning we always go out on the balcony and see all sorts of sea creatures in the distance. We are gonna be on the 6th floor this time so I hope we still get to get a view of all the morning greeters.
Your welcome Jesse! I might have met you about this time I took the video. Are you working the beach this summer? My whole family goes to Panama at least once or twice a year. Panama City Beach is the BEST!!!
i live in panama city an it dosent serprise me at all that there was a shark that close. we go swimmin almost every month of the year so we see alot of different animals like that all year round> just look at it this way every time u get in the water here u have a chance of commin face to face with this animal! its aactually not that scary just dont freak and try to run to shore speacially if it is a bull shark or a tiger!!
we are here at the beach in a condo. its really hott here so the beach is nice. next time u come u should go banana boating around dusk then youll c all the sharks u want and be saprised wat u have been swimming with all day!!! but just remeber NEVER SWIM WHEN ITS GETTIN DARK OR WHEN ITS SUNRISE!!!! VEARY BAD IDEA THATS SHARK FEEDING TIME!!!!
Yeah, that's a real nice place! This was actualy shot on the 18th floor at the Panama City Beach Tidewater Resort. Did you see anything like this when you were there?
I live in Panama City and it doesn't surprise me at all seeing a shark. I once had a shark swim in from of me or (what I thought was a shark) 4 years ago. Needless to say I was scared shitless.
So I was invited to go down again this time to Panama City Beach at the end of August, might stay at the holiday inn sunspree, stayed there 2 years ago, it was pretty nice, they have beach concergie that bring you drinks, I just remembered we had a higher up floor and my mom was looking out to the beach and she could've swore she saw a shark, I told her it probably was just a dolphin but she said it was too big to be a dolphin. are hammerheads territorial?
We saw lots of dolphins...awesome! I don't know much about hammerheads. I did ask a few locals and they said that it wasn't unusual to see a shark that size in Panama City Beach. After this video, I did go back out in the ocean, but I watched very intently. We stayed at the new condo's on front Beach Road.
I was there at the Tidewater Resort til August 1st. It did clear up beautifull and the water was calm for about 4 days July 26- 29th then storms came and the seaweed was back, too. I left a day early because of it. The water was so strong they wouldn't let us go in. Somebeach kept blowing their whistle at me..
Wow how rare, they barely ever come that close to shore O_o
