@NaTiVoWeB congrats, I hope it does well for you. Mysis is best. They prefer more substantial, fleshy foods. Reef plankton is another good one. Brine shrimp is okay but should not be the staple. It will need to learn when regular feeding time is, so I suggest you only feed it when it is time for the rest of the tank to eat. Hope that helps.
In theory, would a straw work? I mean, the same principle as kids do when they play with cola? I havent seen the feeder thingy before and found it very interesting. I heard of another solution. A "bell" (a plastic container, that allows the food to reach the tentacles without being eaten by other fish or taken by water current)
@pblomgren A straw should work, yes! For some things I have had to feed using rigid airline tube and even the flexible airline, so I definitely think a straw would be just fine. I have seen "dome hats" like the bell you mention, where the top of a 2L soda bottle is cut and placed over the tubastrea to let the food float around in it without fouling up the water too much.
hey i hav a 3 gallon nano reef tank with a large sand polyp and i just got and do to the small size tank i was wondering how much i shood feed it im using the phytoplankton.A i also hav 4 other corals in there.
If you're using just phytoplankton it may not be substantial enough. The sun polyps need meaty food like mysis or other plankton larger than phyto. They will filter feed, so just dose the phyto correctly for the size of your tank, but they will be much healthier with something bigger and meatier.
beautiful coral - i have an 11g tank and wonder if something ike that could be housed in it? There's so much food floating in the tank, wouldn't it foul up the water? Or do your CuC, fish and other corals take care of left overs?
Notes: Kent Marine SeaSquirt Feeder. Food: SF Bay Premium Reef Plankton enriched with Zoe. Food isn't "smoky" in the water fed plain. Flow is off during feeding. Food floats up. I feed bottom to top. Floating food is caught by the higher polyp tentacles. The tentacles are sticky. I'm not banging on the polyps, they are pulling my feeder.
Feeding Done: filtration is turned on. Particles circulate allowing the sun coral to continue to feed. Water is clear again in less than 20 minutes.
Other notes: After feeding I took a photograph placed at the end of the video. At the end of the video you will see the tubes are really plump with plenty of food. I usually stand where the camera is at to feed Shaggy, so I'm really not that clumsy and my feather dusters usually don't freak out like that. :)
One more question, I got the sun coral 2 days ago it hasn't open yet. Do I have to wait for him to open so I can feed him ?

How often do you feed your Orange Sun Coral ?
NaTiVoWeB 10 months ago
@NaTiVoWeB I rotate between twice a week and three times a week. Average is about every 4 days or so.
