Its kinda cool mine never froze! I had left it in my car for about a month so on January 1st i went to go get it and it worked fine! even after plugging it into the computer! And yes i have a VERY original 30 gig Zune! Its the brown one from when they first came out!

it happened because it was a leap year and the Zunes were like WTHeck! did i miss the new year or am on time?? and so they didn't know what to do and froze up.

(it gets a bit to complicated for me about what was happening inside the Zune that froze it up but the leap year triggered it)

Also, they posted a warning up on the support website, to everyone that hard reset like you showed here. They're saying that you shouldn't do this and that if it is still broken after this that it will void your warranty, but I doubt anyone took a 3 year warranty out on these pieces of crap anyway, lol.

It's fixed now, if you let your battery die like they said to and plugged it into a computer after 12 PM January 1st it should have reset the clocks. Mine is fine now, sadly. Could've gotten a new one :[

I loaded my zune up this morning at 9am my time (zune sit said after 6am and I would be fine, zune battery charged enough to turn itself on and I had never been so happy to see the scroll menu! Still mad at Microsoft though..

Alright I did a factory reset nad it loaded just fine. Working so far....

Its not that fact that people broke their Zune its the fact that a problem such as this one should have never made it past testing. Until MS comes out with a firmware update this will happen again in 4 years :-/

I dont think we need to worry about it happening again, BUT there does need to be some small compensation for people who fixed thiers and a larger on for people (like me) who still have a frozen zune

mine wasnt working i tried what the zune website and nothing still frozen, then i disconected the battery and when i plugged back in, while the zune logo was loading i hold the back center and left buttons to do the factory reset, now its syncing seems to be working hope this helps

you welcome, mine is working now, the factory reset worked, try it in your zune when the bar in the (frozen)zune logo is loading, you have to do it fast but it works!!

At noon today I did what they said to do and it was still frozen :-/

So I unplugged the battery. Im now charging it... So far its working but it worked yesterday as well. Then after an hour it would freeze again.

Anybody else have any luck?

let your zune battery run down (disconnect it from your computer) and after 12 noon on Jan 1st...they said it should work normally

If your hard drive doesnt spin out while the battery wears down- its not a good situation either way- the HD's arent designed to run for hours on end- they run in blips as the device,loads menus and files during regular operation

Are you serious?! Goddamnit! I connected it to my comp. and now it plays for a few mins then reboots and freezes. So I do the reset and the cycle continues :-/
