Neither of them have their mics or guitars hooked in. Slade is a great band, but why are they doing playback? Noddy has a great voice, and dont need playback.
A fine example of a strong mature rock effort. A heavy riff, great anthemic feel and some powerful vocal. With the right promotion, this single would have made some impact in America however small. Half a million views for this popular song surely proves this.

I think that whether they're miming or not here is irrelevant - it goes without saying that Slade could really play and Lea/Holder as a song writing team are up there with the best. This was from an album (You Boyz Make Big Noize) that bombed but should have been huge. Yeah, so its 80s rock but when the likes of Bon Jovi were getting massive Slade should have been the grand old statesmen of the scene but they never really shook off the glam rock moniker.

If they'd never gone in with the whole glam thing, they probably wouldn't have had such a peak but their career would probably had more longevity and they'd be give a lot more respect today in the same way that other big rock bands are, like Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc. I'm not saying they're necessarily better than those bands (except in my opinion!) but when people think of Slade today its of platform shoes, silly hats and #that# Xmas song. They were far, far, better than that.

I love Slade, but they could have at least plugged in the mics to make it look less fake. Don't tell me they're wireless, you can see the plugs in the back of the mics very clearly at some points. Probably out of their control though.
I recall watching this on telly on a saturday morning while kicking the vhs which wouldnt record the ruddy thing. My poor old dad spent most of his later years shouting over these guys telling me to turn it down. @proslade Yer welcome. Yeah, String Driven Thing are definitely worth checking out. They made two very original albums for Charisma Records (four altogether) in the early 70's. Their violinist Grahame Smith later joined Van Der Graaf Generator. It's a Game was a modest hit for Bay City Rollers in '77, so Slade must have heard it.

I think that whether they're miming or not here is irrelevant - it goes without saying that Slade could really play and Lea/Holder as a song writing team are up there with the best. This was from an album (You Boyz Make Big Noize) that bombed but should have been huge. Yeah, so its 80s rock but when the likes of Bon Jovi were getting massive Slade should have been the grand old statesmen of the scene but they never really shook off the glam rock moniker.

If they'd never gone in with the whole glam thing, they probably wouldn't have had such a peak but their career would probably had more longevity and they'd be give a lot more respect today in the same way that other big rock bands are, like Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc. I'm not saying they're necessarily better than those bands (except in my opinion!) but when people think of Slade today its of platform shoes, silly hats and #that# Xmas song. They were far, far, better than that.

@headofwords True that. However, considering the last 3 or 4 albums, Slade have evolved more than Zep, abbath etc. who still sounded the same after 20 years. Also, Slade made a shitload of REAL tunes in a surprising number of styles, not just pieces of music with drivel about witches etc. With Slade, it always remained a real song. I don t understand why not many people seem to recognize that. 80 s Slade is E-P-I-C. Best band ever, IMHO, but totally overlooked and mispercepted.

I recall watching this on telly on a saturday morning while kicking the vhs which wouldnt record the ruddy thing. My poor old dad spent most of his later years shouting over these guys telling me to turn it down. @AntiKoloEmo It probably is all wireless hahaha they did a lot of miming in the eighties. Whatever they did, they always give you a smile on your face. It is a little hard to believe that 'real' live they blew the greatest of great off the stage and that IMHO they were one of the best rockbands ever, if not the best and certainly the most versatile music acts.

@proslade Yer welcome. Yeah, String Driven Thing are definitely worth checking out. They made two very original albums for Charisma Records (four altogether) in the early 70's. Their violinist Grahame Smith later joined Van Der Graaf Generator. It's a Game was a modest hit for Bay City Rollers in '77, so Slade must have heard it.
