A Power Chord only needs two fingers. Index, and Ring.

No Pinky Required.

A power chord can involve 4 fingers ! With 2, it's the basic one, with just two string, if you add the pinky, you add a string, etc ...

You don't HAVE to use your pinkie though. You can bar the two high strings with your ring finger.

Personnally, I play power chords as you do, but the problem is that if you want to add a strin ( the 3rd ) you can't, but if you use your pinky, it gives :
