thanks for the compliment. i modified a stock mexi strat with two dimarzio hs-3s and a dimarzio yjm. i also took the neck to a really good local luthier to scallop it and refret it for 300.  the whole thing ran around 850. a pretty good deal seeing as how retail the malmsteen strat costs like 1700! they don't come in wine red, either :)

I'm really considering doing some kinda renovations like those myself. I looked up the pickups and I see that they really are for a yngwie sound, which I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for but I'll think about it lol. The scalloping thing though- is it worth it? My Strat's a mexican one too, but it was way overpriced and think it's worth refretting and all. Would you recommend it, did it help improve performance noticeably?

the pick-ups give out a lower signal than usual and produce very warm tone, so it's great for clean playing. when you push it into overdrive though, they also hum-cancel so it's virtually noiseless. as for the scalloping, it depends on your own preference man. most people don't like it because it forces you to develop a lighter touch and sort of relearn how to fret again. it gives you way more control over vibrato, string bending, and legato though.

is the first one a question? haha, it's a fender mexican strat, and the only pedal i use is an overdrive, a YJM DOD 308. i use a really low gain on my amp (3), and to get that sound i have treble at 7, mid at 5, bass at 8, and reverb at 7. hope that helps
