What I love about Johnny Otis is the fact that he was one of the earliest examples of "Blue Eyed Soul", being that though he was born to Greek immigrant parents, he was pretty much readily accepted in the Black community.

with his band and produced Hound Dog),

..a.s.o. As a pionier of R&B he is in the R&R
and Blues hall of Fame.

I think he was Frank Zappa's uncle.

He wasn't, but was Frank's inspiration for growing his own "Imperial", which is the style of facial hair they are both known for.
