No, But we had Orange and a green Kawasaki KFX 700's. My husband and dad go there a lot, and they said that day was actually a dry day. It's usually much muddier. I have a pretty sweet video I am going to post from the same day. I'll send it your way when It's up here.
I guess its a combination of length and rubicon, heavy frame and heavy axles. fj has better mileage for sure. No roofrack and an aftermarket airfilter would cancel out the effects of 33' tires on mileage:)
I guess its a combination of length and rubicon. Heavy frame and axles I guess. Fj has def better mileage, and gets even better mileage without a roofrack and with aftermarket air intake, which would prob be canceled out by 33' tires. which i believe fit on the stock fj...
Here look at my old off roader. a funny ol' mistubishi pick up. I beat the crap out of it but It just never breaks.
Well, I'll say the Wrangler, but I want to make it clear that it's not a fair comparison.
First, Kris has really bad ass tires on his ride which REALLY helped him get traction in places where my **street** tires had trouble biting in. Even with inappropriate tires, I still managed to make it through everything he did, except for two mud holes that he had to tow me out of. Once I get my new tires, I have a feeling our vehicles will be more closely matched.
Second, and more importantly, Kris is a veteran off-roader. He's been doing it for years and is REALLY good at it! I on the other hand, just started. I have a lot to learn, so I'm sure even with better tires he'll still be able to negotiate tougher stuff than me.
Bottom line -- the FJ Cruiser is a *fantastic* vehicle for off-roading, and is VERY capable in stock form. I have the five speed automatic tranny with optional locking rear differential, and that made a world of difference. Some of the other off-roaders that were driving their souped up domestics (huge tires, lift kits, etc) were giving me the thumbs up after watching me make it through some of the crazy obstacles, especially after learning that I was running street tires.
All in all, I love my FJ and can honestly say that it's been my favorite car so far. The only thing I wish I could change would be the motor (I really want diesel), but otherwise it's been one of the most pleasing purchases of my life. I get complimented on it almost every time I stop for gas, and many times when I'm at a drive-thru the folks will tell me how "dope" my ride is.
Ya the fj was already my first choice. I bet with good tires it'll be as good as a four door wrangler at least. I thought the motor was one of the best things about it! I wish they hadn't made the body so heavy though. foor door wrangler can't be that much lighter though
The Wrangler is noticeably smaller and weighs around 3800 lbs (4-door Unlimited), vs 4300 lbs for the Cruiser (not including any extras on either vehicle). The Cruiser is heavier but is fitted with a more powerful engine to compensate. Not surprisingly, the Wrangler has superior gas mileage, and doesn't require premium fuel either. All the same, I'll stick with my FJ. :)
Oh, one other thing -- I'm amazed at how solid the Cruiser feels when under stress. Other cars I've owned have made small noises when going over speed bumps or what have you, but I never heard a peep when off-roading. I can't say whether Jeeps are as quiet since I've never ridden in one. All I know is that the FJ feels like a fricken tank!
Yes Toyotas build quality makes jeeps look like one time use vehicles! but Dude. what are you saying about the mileage! the jeep has much worse mileage, and premium fuel is better, burns cleaner. jeep gets combined mileage:16. fj gets 20 or sth.
As for weight, hehe, the 2008 4 door rubicon 4400lb.. oh dear ;) fj is 100lb lighter and 40 hp stronger...
Wow, I thought Jeeps were supposed to get at least 17 MPG to like 24 MPG. I'll have to ask my friend about his. As for the FJ, I never get over 15-16 MPG city, but highway driving I've gotten as high as 23 MPG before. I mentioned premium because some people whine about gas prices (not me -- make it MORE expensive so people stay off MY roads please!). What the heck makes the new Rubicon so heavy?!
I was there, the same day. We had our Quads.

If you have the means and are shopping around, I highly recommend picking one up. Even with all the options mine was still only $34K!
