  • Just slice it in half and flip it over and hit the back with an ice cream spoon to knock out the seeds, with will take about a minute...enjoy.

  • @marlonnewell Thanks for watching and for the tip. Fortunately there are always many ways to get the job done;)

  • dammit, should have watched this video before i cut it straight through, my clothes are all stain with purple juice and cant wash them off

  • @IKNFLY666 Boo. Hope it goes better next time;) Thanks for watching.

  • @IKNFLY666 me too -.- my mom forbid me from eating them until i learned the 'right way'

  • Pomegranate a la Mickey Rourke in "the Immortals"

1: Select pomegranate and favorite knife.

    2: Go outside.

3: Cut pomegranate directly in half.

4: Place one half, rind down, on a relatively clean surface.

5: Take other half and break of a piece with your hands.

6: Glut yourself, face first into the pulp and seedy gore. Closing teeth just enough to feel resistance from seeds.

7: Spit out the pulp and seed bolus like you got a pair.

8: Repeat steps 5-7 until both halfs are consumed.

  • Hah it usually takes me 10+minutes to get all the seeds out safely :D

  • This is a good way, but my is much easier and faster. You can see it on my channel. Best regards

  • it worked just fine but the pomegranate seeds were not like fully red they look see through does this mean the fruit is not mature to eat? should i have waited some more days?

  • @FlawlesZMa Most of the time you can see through the seed. However you might have just picked out one that was not ripe enough. Pomegranates don't ripen after they are picked so look for ones that have a tight skin, are heavy for their size and free from blemish. Also push on the stem at top and make sure no dust comes out. Should be soft not dry. This will lead to a finding a ripe pom.

  • Thanks! Just bought my very first one today. Glad I found out about the juice staining stuff!

  • @mysconnie Awesome. Glad you didn't have to find out the hard way;) I hope all your clothing stays stain free. Enjoy!

  • I eat the "pith"...

  • Eating pg as I write this comment. These small sons of bitches are so good!

Even with an arrow to the knee, I'll still eat them.

  • @amazingdany Awesome. Thanks for watching

  • Worked great, thanks!

  • @osamaisahomo Great to hear!

  • THANKS SO MUCH!!

  • @lizamaboo Thank you for watching!

  • This worked like a charm. No mess in the kitchen and the seeds came out and fell to the bottom of the bowl, just as you said.

  • @Chancelund So glad it worked for you. Thanks for watching!

  • Thank you! Just used this for Thanksgiving preparation!

  • @BabyTeardropsBand So glad I could help! Happy holidays.

  • couldnt find a big enough bowl...i got juice all over the walls, on my shirt,in someones eye,and on the ceiling!

  • @psychobeefstick boo to that;)

  • I did it just like this before its so easy

  • That 2nd strainer is for steaming rice!!!

  • @atwater63 OMG!!! Call the strainer police! lol.;) Thanks for watching.

  • does it cost money to subscribe

  • @LethalSpoon99 nope. just press the button, it's free;)

  • @RVO174: Absolutely Amazing!!!

I was just telling a friend how I wished there was an easier way to eat one and look at what I found on You Tube...thank you sooo very much RVO174...You ROCK! :-)

  • @HumbleYourselfY2K Thank you so much for watching and commenting. You ROCK too!;)

  • can you chew and swallow the seeds? I just bite the seeds and spit it out.

  • @gamehead91 No it's better not to. You have the right idea. Stick with spitting them out;) Thanks for watching.

  • @RVO174 no. chew them and swallow. it's safe and it helps with intestine circulation. all animals are supposed to eat seeds and poop them out. that's what they are for, actually.

  • @RVO174 Yes, they are delicious and not only have a nutty flavour but are high in protein and fibre and tons of extra vitamins!! Crunchy with a fruity twist! Nature meant them to be eaten.-

  • @gamehead91 No you just swallow. (:

  • @gamehead91 Actually, I prefer to eat the seeds; they're crunchy, add a nutty taste, and help add fiber to your diet. You also end up with no waste. :)

  • @gamehead91 i don't think so.

  • honestly?! there is no need for the water stuff! MAN UP

  • @kamyarghofrani sorry. I didn't have a chainsaw available;) Thanks for watching

  • @kamyarghofrani It just makes it easier!

  • thanks a bunch, great video!

  • @jchizick Thank you!

  • damnit, just squirted so much juice in my eye

  • @Kroopah boooo. But I guess that's how you found this;) Thanks for watching.

  • @Kroopah thats what she said

  • 1.15 it only has one side, it's a sphere.

  • Step 1: Get a chainsaw

    Step 2: Cut it

    Step 3: eat that shit

  • New Method:

Instead of breaking it apart under water let the whole thing soak for half an hour in a bowl of water, then tip it out so there is a smaller amount of water, once you have done this gently remove the seeds from the pif then strain the water into a cup. The pomegranate juice will be more then the water and makes a delicious drink to go with the seeds!

  • @michaelh464 Sounds great. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.

  • the healthiest fruit ever, one pommegranate equals to 10 oranges I think; something like that, I just wish they were less expensive in europe

they sell it here one pommegranate for 2 euro and more

    and It's a small one

not like the those I have back home in Israel

  • wow this makes it ssoooooo much easier! i used to peel it by hand and eat the seeds individialy whyle still inside the pulp

  • ah, pomegranate season once again. I love the little red buggers. This method has saved me many a white shirt, as well as my white countertop. Those little splatters managed to make their way all the way across the kitchen before I learned how to do this the clean way. Thanks!

  • @kamisaki2008 Yep, tasty time of year;) Thanks for watching. I'm glad this helped! Take care and have a great finish to 2011.

  • I stained my white shirt. wish i had seen this video first

  • @Tallgirl83 Boo. Sorry to hear that. I hope this works better for you next time. Thanks for watching.

  • you need a sharper knife.

  • @jin455 I take donations at the site;) Thanks for watching.

  • @RVO174 a blunt knife has a greater potential for injury, be safe :)

  • @jin455 You are definitely right. Thanks for the concern and you do the same. Everyone with a knife, be safe!;)

  • Genius!

  • Lol @ the crazy people picking on u for this method.. I will try this next time

  • @Tiffanyjoy854 ha ha thanks Tiffany! You need a tough skin if you post on YouTube. Perhaps this video is very appropriate;) Good luck. Be careful as always when handling knifes and let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching.

  • just cut it into four parts and hit each part by a spoon from the out side as many times allowing all the seeds to drop into a dish underneath it. There is no need for all this water and tools.

  • @Ahmedkammona yep, this is just one way to do it. Thanks for watching and adding your own technique. That is the fun part, learning how everyone does it. Take care.

  • @Ahmedkammona and it creates a big staining mess. This method shown is the ONLY way I'll ever do a pomeranate ever again!

  • this is the most tedious way to seed a pomegranate! Cut in half and beat it on the back - beat it to hell! Quick and simple.

  • @Bimboesque whatever way best gets you to the arials works for me...beat away;) Thanks for watching

  • Neeeeehhhh i just cut it in half an eat it thn spit out the pips :D

  • @Runawayzzz cool, sounds good to me. Whatever way you can get to the arial and enjoy is a good plan;) Thanks for watching.

  • Sorry to sound ignorant, but I had no idea that it was the seeds you eat! Not similar to the grape, watermelon, orange :-) I just assumed it was the skin. I'd like to try it now because of your podcast. Thanx.

  • @moorednc nope you don't sound ignorant, it's not as simple as it seems;) While you can technically eat the seed, it's probably better to spit them out. Its' the skin and juice which together make the arial is what you are actually eating. It's mainly about the juice. The seed is what is inside the juice. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

  • at 2 : 20 now tat starting to look like my fake pomegranate vitamin water

  • @chuimistro ha ha you're right. Fortunately however most of the color is from the reflection of the water coming off of the arials and not juice. Very yummy;) Thanks for watching.

  • For me, half of the enjoyment of eating a pomegranate is picking each seed out one at a time and popping it in my mouth!

  • @kachel90 yep, sitting outside on a nice sunny day, picking seeds out one at a time sounds like a nice way to relax;) Thanks for watching

  • I never had a pomegranate before but I was wondering what it tastes like. This would be my first time to try it.

  • @thahappylilguy1 hard to explain because it's unique but it's a really sweet juice. You're best bet is to just go for it. I'm 99% sure you'll enjoy them;) Thanks for watching!

  • I remember my mom beated me up for juice on the walls...

  • Very Erotic :)

  • oh for goodness sake! it's just as quick plucking them out, and there's less washing up afterwards.

  • @jahangiro you sound skilled but for others that would mean washing all their clothes and taking a shower after lol. This is just one way to do it. I've seen many methods including yours. It's good to know as many ways possible. Options are nice;) Thanks for commenting and watching.

  • What a shame? washing the seeds in water!

  • @sahmadi1000 all the flavor and goodness is inside the arial and is protected. These arials don't stay in the water long enough to be affect the flavor or get through the sack protecting the juice. Of course, this is only one way to do it. There are many which work just as well;) Thanks for watching and thanks for your feedback.

  • thank you!

  • Submerging it in water so that it won't squirt everywhere is pretty smart. Don't know why I never thought about it before.

  • sorry, don't want to promote my own video but there are two things wrong with this method:

    1. all the juice from the pomegranate is wasted in the water

    2. cutting from the middle of the pomegranate cuts open seed that don't need to be cut open

search: "How to seed a pomegranate without making a mess" in youtube for the alternative method

  • @jfig34vno no problem, thanks for the feedback. This is just one way to do it and I enjoy hearing other methods people use. You're right about the juice, if that is your intent then this method would not be the way to go however I will correct you on your second point. There is never any cutting down the middle and thus no broken arils. The sides of the pom are scored with a knife but you only cut into the skin (pith) and never into the actual pom. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

  • incorrect. i will save the world and upload my own version today.

  • @ratcrib yep, this is just one way to do it, there are many. Thanks for the feedback, I look forward to seeing your method. Please post once you make your own video and upload. Take care.

  • @RVO174 just uploaded.

  • @ratcrib thanks for sharing.

  • @ratcrib where is ur version? i see ur comment about saving the world and uploading ur version, that was 10 months ago. lol just curious

  • Hey this was great thankyou very much. My mom and I have been struggling with them for years. We tried your trick . and it worked wonderfully. Thanks again.

  • @robynbrimley1 thank you very much for your kind words and for watching the show. I love hearing from people who have also tried this method and it worked for them. And especially since you've been opening and struggling with them for so long, that's great news that the video was understandable and easy to do yourself. Take care.

  • Thank you very much. I knew I liked pomegranate juice and I wanted my kids to enjoy the fruit. What a blessing to be able to enjoy it with them.

  • @rainbeaux13 thank you for watching and have a very happy holiday!

  • Look at the colour of that water... so much wasted...

  • @BobbyRice2 this is for the seeds/arials only...if you want the juice, no, you would not do it this way. Thanks for the comments. What methods do you like for getting the juice..that would be helpful for everyone. thanks

  • Thank you so much for this informative video! Watcing this before I ever tried to open a pomegranate saved me a lot of trouble and juice stains. The only downside to this method is that any punctured pomegranate seeds get soggy and lose their taste. But otherwise great! Thanks

  • @netyote thanks so much for watching and commenting! Fortunately you watched before cutting. You are lucky, many don't find the video until later and then well, its too late cause they are stained;)

I'm usually too busy shoveling handfuls into my mouth to notice the soggy ones but I could see how that would be a bummer. Take care!

  • just watched this after peeling 3 pomegranates by hand and juicing them

    real shame lol :/

i would highly recommend juicing though, you essentially get rid of the tough seeds... amazing

  • @Mateo151 Yes that sounds amazing, I love pom juice. Thanks for watching!

  • Getting ready to try, wish us luck!

  • @wurlwyde awesome! good luck and let me know how it turns out..thanks for watching!

  • how do you guys just eat 1 i am 16 in top shape and still get like 3 in side ahaha

  • Thank you!

I no longer 'fear the pomegranate', & I can once again enjoy my pomegranate & yogurt without spending 3 hours picking out the seeds (2 hours of which were spent cleaning up the 'bloody' mess).

By that time I usually had lost my appetite.

  • How do you recommend storing the seeds? I was thinking just like sealed bag in the fridge?

  • @hEyBaNaGiRl any air tight container (zip lock baggie, tupperwear, etc) should work fine. enjoy and thanks for watching the show!

  • thank you, it worked great on our first pomegranate.

  • @08ktm250xcfw awesome! glad I could help, thanks for watching the show!

  • isnt this from ehow or howcast or something???

  • @helpmeimconfused this is from the people who grow pomegranates themselves. They taught me how to cut it this way when I was working in produce. Many other people also know this technique too, so I'm sure you've seen it other places. I also have this video posted on howcast as well. thanks for watching!

  • Thank you! We need to come back to you every year for some reason, I always forget. :)

  • @amnem well many thanks for the return visits! see ya next year;)

  • eating an apple is way easier.

  • @Regal1800 ha ha, I agree;)

  • @Regal1800 And eating a raisin is easier than eating an apple. Hurray.

  • Wow, I thought I new everything about cutting fruit, especially fruits like pineapple, kiwis & mangos! Pomegranates are one of my favorite fruits, but we always just take 'em outside to eat because they are so messy. This is a new technique and awesome! Thanks, Producer Picker!!!

  • kk. :P

  • of course, i watch this AFTER trying it the messy way.

  • @Draconium666 Bummer! but thanks for watching;)

  • @MmmScruplez yea ecplosive if you to much ;)

  • they're called arils not seeds.

  • @juj1n yes you are right, they are! Thanks for the feedback and for watching the show!

  • Wow , I just cut it in three slices and rip it apart and eat out of it.. I have to admit , I do look like a vampire that just came back from dinner

  • @poQkie ha ha yeah I bet that looks funny but way to just go for it!;)

  • If this was the fruit that tempted Adam and Eve, it is a good thing they were naked! Pomegranates are messy!

  • @oliveoyl64 ha true and funny.

  • The actual best way to open a pomegranate is to but it 2 minutes in microwave!

  • @NabotBleu hmm interesting idea/tip. I'll have to give that a shot but why do I feel like I might just end up making a really big mess? Is this a trap lol;) Thanks for watching!

  • thats it...

  • I used to think that Vernors ginger ale was the nectar of the gods, but I was wrong. It's fresh squeezed pomegranate juice with no sugar or water added.

  • @a96ozsteak yummy!

  • Some think that the apple of the garden of Eden was a pomengranate

  • @sluggo06 I'd buy that for a dollar;)

  • @RVO174 ?

  • @sluggo06 sorry, its a line from a movie called Robocop. I was just saying, based on a comment of yours sometime ago, that I can believe that the apple in Eden was a pomegranate. They're as good as any apple I've had;)

  • @RVO174 i know that line! but ive never really had a pomergrante. they better than mangos?

  • @sluggo06 I think they probably are but everybody is different and so are both of those fruits. It's hard to pick one from the other. Just depends on mood I guess..take care and thanks for watching.

  • You made a whole 4 minute video about this when I just cut the pomegranate in fourths and peel out the seeds.

  • @xAiiRPLANES awesome, go for it! Whatever gets you to the fruit works for me;)

  • I tried the underwater method this morning and it worked great. I still hate peeling them though, I want that goodness in me faster! One thing I did before pouring them into the strainer/colander was to pour some of the water into the sink so the floaty stuff poured out instead of with the seeds. Less of it to pick out later. Thanks for the video.

  • @lhawkes5 good tip about pouring out some of the water first!!

  • @BurntFlower03 thanks for watching, glad I could help!

  • @lhawkes5 cool, thanks for the tip, feedback and thanks for watching!

  • Woo! I just watched this and then opened my pomegranate. Very helpful, although I didn't put it into water... I just kind of popped all the seeds off by breaking up the membrane. I also exploded quite a few of them all over my shirt, arms, counter, floor, under the cabinets, and stained my cutting board. I'm eatin' pomegranate now... but I should've used your water technique! CHEERS!

  • @misskellyoj ha yeah sounds messy but delicious. Glad you liked the video and hey, next time you have a new way to try it! Thanks for watching!

  • i want you to make a tutorial on how to open a banana :D joke just joking xD

  • @lasertracer206 Hey check out the banana episode;) OK i might not go that far but...;)

  • You're supposed to cut along the edges between each section (the sections are separated by a membrane. That way, you pull it apart leaving them all intact, and there is less cuts.

Oxyclean gets stains out after 10 minutes of soaking.

  • @BlakiepooTube cool tips, better cutting and a way to get the stains out, perfect, thanks for watching!

  • AFTER YOU GUYS PUT THE SEEDS IN OTHER DISH, PUT SALT, AND EAT WITH SPOON. ITS AWESOME!!

  • @GifsPicture yum, try that! everyone.

  • i have trypophobia, so i feel really sick when i cut open a pomegranate :(

  • @sophsonline

    Sounds stupid to me

  • @sophsonline OOOMMMMFFFGGGG!!!

You just gave me trypophobia TOO!@!!!

Seriously!!! I was like "Hmm, What's trypophobia?" I did a search on google then google images, and OMFG! WTF!!!! GET IT OUT MY HEAD AHHHHHH!!!

Damn it, I guess I'll just buy pomegranate juice instead, seeing I have trypophobia now too thanks to a comment on youtube that I did a google search on.

I'll never look at skin piercings the same way again.

  • @14sJakeB190 ughhh im not going to google that;)

  • @sophsonline bummer. i hope the other videos make you feel better;)

  • I love pomegranate seeds. I fucking hate pomegranates.

  • @ArtisticwithaK sounds reasonable to me.

  • hai rotto molti arilli e fatto disperdere il succo nell'acqua, NO GOOD!

  • @Melotiriunpompelmo yeah i guess its not perfect, just one way. thanks for the feedback and for watching.

  • I think really a short sleeved t shirt is required for this operation Mr presenter man.

  • @Richyhello ha ha, yeah. Most of my videos have me in short sleeves but for some reason, the one that could be the messiest, I don't. Oh well;) That just proves that this is a great technique for staying clean:) Thanks for watching!

  • hey rvo174 wen u eat pomegranate seeds r they squishy n soft or soft at first n then u have to spit it out?

  • @thissucks756 there are several suggestions if you scroll down through the comments. Generally you get the juice out of the red seed (aril) and you can then spit out the seed or just eat it but be careful cause the seeds are hard.

  • sledge hammer = solved in 3 seconds

  • @Orbytaltm LOL, yep that's certainly one way to do it! Gallager would agree;)

  • @RVO174 1 i was joking 2 who's Gallager

  • Good video, I always wanted to know this technique. Pomengranate is a benefit as it conains antioxidants, similar to cherries, as antioxidants can be found in dark fruits. Plus you also have your fibre for a healthy colon, vitaminc C, and other important nutrients.

  • @xDeAdlYSp1Derx Glad I could help. This is definitely a nice fruit to add to your diet, lots of benefits. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
