When I was a little kid I would listen to this on my grandmother's record player. At that age I always thought this song was about Frankenstein's Monster. That's what the lyrics remind me of. A smooth song about Frankenstein. I loved horror as a little kid. Still do at age 19. This song just takes me back so far. By the way Jimmy Dean was a second tenor and upper baritone range. Johnny Cash was a baritone and upper bass range. It would have been a task for dean to get well down into the lower end of the baritone range, and for Cash to reach the upper baritone range, and extremely difficult if not almost impossible to hit notes in the second tenor range.

Dean had another song called Sleeping Beauty, I believe was the title of it. Listen to that, then anything that's classic Cash, and you will hear the difference in the voices. I grew up listening to Jimmy Dean, and Johnny Cash, along with a lot of other country singers. Cash's voice is a lot deeper then Dean's was.

It was inspired by an actor friend of Dean's named John Minto who was 6'5" The song was written on the way to a recording session when Dean needed another song. It was his biggest hit ever and revived his stagnant career. Dean did two versions. This one with "one hell of a man" instead of "a big, big man" on the plaque was too controversial to use in 1961. Jimmy Dean wrote it, this is Dean singing it. Give the man his due.
