  • Love those old classic tv shows - one of the best episodes of Hazel. Thanks for sharing!

  • Put a pound of butter in the pan, cover the turkey completely and tightly around the edges of the pan with aluminum foil and cook at 325 degrees for 4 to 5 hours. ;])

  • I'm in love with Hazel! Love watching it every night on antenna tv before I go to bed! :)

  • @tink33197 : ....What's an antenna....?

  • @buzzclick500 It's what people who can't afford dish watch today. Fortunately I have Directv but when we decided to put a tv downstairs on antenna only (for when the dish goes out in bad weather) we discovered antenna tv & the antenna channel that covers all these wonderulf shows!

  • @tink33197 I'm with you, it's the best!

  • The show may have originally aired almost 50 years ago but the gentle humor mixed in with a message about caring about family and friends is timeless. One of my favorite episodes. Thank you for posting it.

  • simpler time and much higher moral value.

stop trying to make a sense out of WHATEVER.

just enjoy the show. and notice how the show is mainly giving us lesson to help others. Because there are no tv or cable show like this in current world.

  • @juakma : But there IS an Internet, and therefore, there is a God. ;])

  • @juakma You got that right!

  • I love Hazel! It comes on Vintage TV and I never miss a episode.

  • Mrs. Baxter, Senior was only eight years older than her 'son' George!LOl Interesting that we never heard of before or since Phyllis or Mrs. Baxter besides this episode- not even when Mr. &Mrs. B. went to Arabie and left Hazel+Harold with his kid bro Steve+family (who also had never been mentioned before! Funny how no one thought to suggest to the bro-in-law for HIM to learn to cook if he hated his wife's cooking so much- and why did she have to fake liking his card tricks?

  • George's mother DID return for parts of the 3rd season when Dorthy had to help a relitive, but a DIFFERANT actress was recast in the role however

  • ya know, no matter how close you become with the family you are always nothing more than help...believe me the rich people nowadays are the same way...I worked for them...

  • ya know, no matter how close you become with the family you are always nothing more than help...believe me the rich people nowadays are the same way...

  • They treat her like a trained chimp and make it look like she should be grateful to sit with the wealthy white folks -- this is the way the people on the upper west side treat their help today -- like pet chimps.

  • Ah, the 1960s, when everybody had a maid. Ours was Daisy. She had Saturdays off, but never left the house 'cause we paid her so little she couldn't go anywhere. She loved us because she was so damned glad just to have a job.

Mother finally had to let her go one Christmas when Daisy accidentally spilled hot tea on Grandfather. Mother was furious, and sent Daisy out into the cold without even letting her get her flimsy coat.

Next day, we found her frozen solid in the street, poor wench.

  • Sounds like the old witch asked for it. I would have slapped her around the house a while before I booted her ass out in the street. At least I would have had some revenge for all the crappy service I was stuck with for so long!

  • @KaninFamily Yes, but in a small way, we sort of feel somewhat responsible for her horrible death. We've made amends, however, and cleared our conscienciouses by making sure that all 19 of her children were placed in reasonably-maintained orphanages around the country.

It came to no good; last I heard, all of them are convicted felons (of those still living). It just goes to show; you can't do anything for the servant class...

  • 19 children! What a whore. I would have placed the whole bloody lot into the prison system as soon as they would walk. It would have saved time al all the taxpayer's money and let out their orange jumpsuits as the little bastards grew on all of that nutritious beanie weenie stew they're so fond of.

  • @KaninFamily It's a dreadful inconvenience to have to deal with these sub-human simpletons as we walk through life. It would certainly be far less depressing if they would just die and (to put it into the astute words of Dickens), "decrease the surplus population".

We are ordinary people; we get up, breakfast on the veranda, morning with the trainer, lunch at the club, stockbroker meeting, shopping, polo, cocktails, dinner at the Ritz, box seats at theatre, and home. Is that asking too much?

  • @moproducer HGWT5763.WHERE ARE ALL OF THESE SO-CALLED SUB-HUMAN SIMPLETONS NOW? THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS-THERE IS NOT NOW, NEVER HAS BEEN AND NEVER SHALL BE SUCH A RACE AS SUB-HUMANS.THIS WAS THE WHITE MAN'S FAIRY TALE.AS A PROUD AFRICAN-AMERICAN, I EAT,DRINK,READ,SING AND GO TCB IN THE BATHROOM OR RESTROOM AS ANYONE ELSE.I MIGHT NOT BE RICH,BUT-SO WHAT?

  • @HORSE1492 How utterly delightful.

  • She won a couple of Emmys for her portrayal of Hazel on this show. Wonderful sitcom in its first couple of years. My dad used to watch it and say if Hazel was his maid, he would never let her boss him around the way she bosses Mr. B.!! Also, wasn't there a version of the theme song with words to it? I'd love to hear that again.

  • How come no shows today have someone giving thanks to the Lord?

  • I have the first season on DVD, which was by far the best of the series. This episode and others in the first season had genuine humor thanks to the interaction between Shirley Booth and Don Defore but there was almost always a message and the relationship between Hazel and the Baxters was often touching. Mr. B. was still crazy about Hazel even though she drove him crazy at times. Thanks for posting.

  • Haven't said Grace at the table since the 60's that's whats wrong we forgot to give grace for our loved ones and food..Hazel aways made everything alright I'm in my 50's now and a lot has happened since those days of innocence.

  • thanks for posting! i enjoyed this immensle!

  • She was always awesome that S Boothe. Come Back Little Sheeba is an amzing film if you love her too. She was so excellent as an actress that she almost didn't get credit for it here. She just "is" that down to earth heart Hazel.

  • Mrs. Drysdale never made biscuits....

  • No, but she threw them at Granny.

  • How "white" of "Mister B" letting Hazel eat a drumstick.

  • @JerseyRich732 I'm surprised they didn't give her the neck.

  • I believe Mrs. Baxter was an interior decorator on the show.

  • thanks for uploading this!!!!

  • From the way Hazel is surprised, I guess The Baxters never let her eat at the table along with the family before?

Can't remember if Mrs. B had a job that made it necessary for her to have a maid to do housework.

  • I've seen Mrs B sell real estate.

I dont' know if it's all the time

    but that's what i remember ;0)

  • I watched this episode on DVD as among the first season episodes, I believe the closing was in syndication. The closing was sung by the Moderaires for the first 10 episodes which was excluded when CPT released for syndication, after that, the closing was instrumental by the first several years by Sammy Kahn & James Van Heusen, l

  • I remember watching Hazel as a child, she can still make me cry. I miss shows like this.

  • AMEN!

  • Look for an episode of Bewitched where Aunt Clara becomes a babysitter...and she explains how "older" people feel, well, forgotten...that's a good show!

Also, check out the Christmas episode of "Andy Griffith" where the crotchety old store owner wants to join in for the Christmas party at the jail...

    Good stuff!!!!

  • What a sweet ending. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the great Thanksgiving vid!! I remember watching this show when I was a little kid. Great show....too bad they don't have programs like this any more!
