Bombing enemy cities should only be done if military targets and military industrial plants are the targets. Now, the war seems SO long ago... When I was a little boy in the 50's (America) it seemed as though the war was still fresh in everyone's mind. All men over 35 had taken some part, and the family "left behind" suffered in their own heartbreaking way. I wish that mankind could remember that this war affected all of us in some way. Humans will always fight war, we always have, but I pray that we might someday learn that it truly is a "last resort".

Bombing enemy cities should only be done if military targets and military industrial plants are the targets. Certainly there will be civilian casualties but civilians should NEVER be the actual targets. I'm no Liberal, but I am a human being. The thought of killing small children in their beds is repugnant to me.

If one hasn't lived under occupation personally, it's hard to understand the hatred from the occupied. Britain and the U.S were never occupied, although Britain was bombed.
Pherhaps this, in a way was Gods justice upon the German people, for all they had done.

We didn't want, or start, war, and anything that is done to a nation which had caused the deaths of 59000 civilians per day, for 6 years - as Germany had done by choosing to wage war - is acceptable. The day they killed their first Jew they abandoned all rights to be treated as anything other than a disease to be wiped from the face of the Earth.

As did most civillians at the time did not know anything about what was really happening out there and what was going on. Most of the German people believed that their country was fighting for good and Hitler was leading them in thte right direction. Obviously this image changed in hte late years of the war.

1) Because Germany had not surrendered.
2) Because Germany might have developed an atomic weapon and dropped it on a picturesque town in Britain or the US.
3) Because, sad as it sounds, the women and children of Dresden were collectively guilty for the actions of their (generally) beloved Fuhrer.
4) Germany had to pay the price for Rotterdam, London, Coventry, Plymouth, EXETER!, Liverpool, ad infinitum.

Now, the war seems SO long ago... When I was a little boy in the 50's (America) it seemed as though the war was still fresh in everyone's mind. All men over 35 had taken some part, and the family "left behind" suffered in their own heartbreaking way. I wish that mankind could remember that this war affected all of us in some way. Humans will always fight war, we always have, but I pray that we might someday learn that it truly is a "last resort".

Well it's very rare I hear stories of combat in central Germany after the Rhine crossings other than the Ruhr pocket.
It's very hard for me to find stories of battles that took place elsewhere in Germany, april 1945 on the western front.
I know there was a 3 day battle to take Nüremberg for example. But that info was very hard for me to dig up.
The History books just mention "mass surrenders" in this final stage of the war on the western front.
I know there's something they are leaving out!

I'm sick and tired of hearing that bullshit. That's a post-war excuse put forward by many who don't know what they are talking about. Bomber Command and its doctrines on how to wage a war were established before the war. Arthur Harris did also not talk of revenge but of how convinced he was that this would win the war for Britain. In other words: Dresden would have taken place even if there had been no blitz. There is no connection between the two.
