Luckily and ironically, the Safety Truck driver had brought an extra pair of pants. Barnhart just wears a diaper now so it was no biggie. Well, it was a biggie, but he was all set.
Indycar has become a complete joke under TGBB, but if the drivers don't threaten a strike to get him removed at this point I am going to start to lose respect for them as well.
Apparently the truck went to return to it's original station, but for some reason another truck had been moved to that spot, and the driver of the truck in the video wasn't informed. It went to the only other place it could go to try and get clear before the cars came by.
I'm told that Brian Barnhart had a lot of unfriendly words with whoever told the other truck to park in that guy's spot - that one mistake instigated this whole thing. Driver of truck in video did the only thing he could do.
The major ASSHOLE in charge of track safety should be taken out back and shot. Why is such incomptence tolerated? They came a split second away from ruining the entire sport.
@SpecialistBR It is actually just a Canon Powershot SX130IS. At the last minute I decided to switch it to video in case there was a pile up in turn 1. Guess it is one of those times where low tech did a better job.
As I commented on Warhammer's post, I was seated in Grandstand 8 between turns 2 and 3, which is where that truck was stationed. It popped out on the track (it had to actually make a u-turn) with its sirens blasting the very moment Race Control called out "Green! Green! Green!". I thought for sure that it wasn't going to end well.
Just another reason the irl is a joke. I too miss CART. A professional series that rivaled F1. This rivals go karts.

The news is reporting the safety truck driver has been suspended for 2 events.

In case you needed further proof just how second rate this joke of a league is. Sad, I miss CART.

Nice shot, can you say what camera did you used? Sound does not seem so distorted as you would expect given the loudness of those cars!

Why was the truck going WD? that's one of the first rules of driving cars on a track....
docbazil 5 months ago
Inexcusable. That could have been a real disaster and was
totally avoidable.

This angle really shows the severity. From my angle, no one could see what was potentially coming. The crowds gasps say it all

@randazz Wow, that is really scary. We wondered where it came from and what happened, it just suddenly appeared in front of us.
squarepair2 5 months ago
@randazz So it came out from the same place it went in prematurely and decided to go back??? or was it repositioning??

I have a shot from the opposite angle, look up Baltimore grand prix near miss. I was blown away by how close they came to total carnage.
