Many people don't use English as mother language. So insisting on this 2nd language adds 1 more way of thinking (as a contrary to what she said). In fact, most people would not forget about their mother language. Quite opposite, many kids who immigrated to US are forced to learn Chinese by parents. English is not supposed to be a barrier, agreed. But its for communication e.g. TOEFL is a test for students who want to study aboard where English is used for communication.

indeed, we should not keep brilliant kids from entering good schools just because their english proficency is not good. but, on the other hand, she doesnt propose any solutions to the problem. And, in my opinion, the world is better than it used to with a Global language!!
