You can use any car. As long as you dont crash from when you pass him at the start of the second lap he wont pass you. He only went to pass this dude as when he drifts during corners for some reason he shifts down and loses a ton of speed when the grip comes back. Theres actually a technique you can use to gain speed during drifting, infact you can go over the cars "max" speed that way. :-)
I always use the yellow solvalvo (or however you spell it - damn japanese!) because of it's high acceleration. I learned that the devil car can only go slightly faster than your car's top speed. The acceleration helps to keep me afar. I never really cared much about car handling, I always perferred drifting.

@xken02 Not necessarily. Use the blue or green car with the high max speed and you'll blow the black car away as long as you don't crash. He won't be able to keep up, let alone pass you. And btw... he won by sheer luck XD I done this track with that car without crashing... its impossible since he takes out at the last stretch due to the cars speed...
well sure yellow solvalou has good acell so if you crash you still have hope and the carrot is a faster RT Ryukyu... but a hard gripping fast car on zooming on the highest speed, no rear view mirror and no chance to crash (exept if your a eexpert gripper and crash once...) but yeah... Yellow solvalou is a nice one... but try with blue now :3
The RT Ryukyu has a giant handling and it is a monster if you can handle it, you dont really have to drift around corners which is a great advantage, and the Blue Solvalou has a reallly bad accel so..... you know what i mean
What I can say about this machine is mysterious, scary, frightening to beat ! But I love it so much!
It is easier to beat him in the Revoultion version because rear view is available. If I used a normal car to beat him, I needed a partner to help me to see from the rear view when it was approaching! I didnt let him go even for the 1st lap. Usually I managed to catch him at a straight, but seldom if he passed me at a Jump or a curve!
A little known secret is that the Devil Car can actually be overtaken on laps 2 and 3. In lap 1, he is impossible to keep up with, and should simply be ignored for the first lap.
In laps 2 and 3, the Devil Car maintains a steady 145 - 147 miles per hour. I was able to actually over take him once driving the Blue Nebulasray, but even at that, your driving has to be perfect. Getting a few "drift turbos" also helps, but that's easier said than done on Time Trial.
One time I tried to beat The Black Car (or as i like to call him...Dante) I beated him but the Yellow Car beated me! Have you ever had that happen before?

Now if only it was this easy on the DS version (Yeah, apparently both no. 13s do the same thing...) I use the fastest car I can get and do some perfect turns but it still isn't enough.
That Devil Car kept owning my dad each time he tried, till 1 night he got drunk and pwned em lol. Best way to beat #13 is to block him the ENTIRE race, let him pass you 1 time and you're finished :l

I did this race once with the same green and red car. The Devil car kept hitting the back of my car on laps 2 and 3. Finally, I left him in the dust in the second half of lap 3. I was so excited when I crossed the finish line and finally beat the Devil Car. My excitement was soon taken away when I realized that I placed second. I had forgot that on lap 2, the yellow car passed me and while the Devil Car kept hitting me from behind, the yellow car built a huge lead and easily won the race.

I could be mistaken it's so long ago..I just checked more vids and didn't see anyone look back. Maybe I just took the ideal lines on the track then, but anyway I felt so lucky at the time to win both the devil and angel cars, my friends couldn't do it ghehehe.
I am still wondering though, I do recall a button for a back-view or is my mind playing tricks on me. I am still convinced that I did win by checking my rear view and blocking..I still love those old school games, checking them is fun.

It took me about ten tries, I allmost quited trying, but noticed that if you do race your rounds nice he always pops up in the same places, makes easier to know when to block him.
the race against the devil car allmost gave me a heart attack back then...man how frustrating. That was one of my most stressfull end bosses of all time in my game history of thousands of games played. This game was so fresh when it came out, my first 3D racegame. The music was also very nice. Man, this brings back great memories. I beated the devil car by constantly looking back and blocked him.

And you can hit the helicopter when you go over the jump before the tunnel entrance too...going around the course the right way. I did it in the yellow car.
I never saw the black car until I played Ridge Racer 64 on the N64 (after griping about the cheap AI with the Expansion Pak), and one time a year ago I made it to the Speed Course (stages 7 & 8) before the saving battery died on me. :(
Seeing that car makes me want to associate it with punk and goth subculture...but that's *totally* irrelevant to Ridge Racer. I'll resist the temptation. Good work putting the smackdown on that evil car! :)

Personally, I think the player's driving style determines the best car. I'm very used to this red/white/green car, so this is the easiest one for me to do the challenge in.
lol on hi spec demo once you unlock the white angel you can even stand up to them and be as fast as they are

The pitch black is like playing San Francisco Rush 2 on the Stunt track with fog on maximum. Pitch blackness always freaks me out.

I never saw the black car until I played Ridge Racer 64 on the N64 (after griping about the cheap AI with the Expansion Pak), and one time a year ago I made it to the Speed Course (stages 7 & 8) before the saving battery died on me. :(
Seeing that car makes me want to associate it with punk and goth subculture...but that's *totally* irrelevant to Ridge Racer. I'll resist the temptation. Good work putting the smackdown on that evil car! :)

u chose the right track to race the black car on because racing it on the other track is nearly impossible

trust me go to the track were you first raced the yellow car one on one and you will also race the black car there.

And you do it after you beat the black car on the reverse course? Well, that would explain why I never knew. I have only beaten the black car twice and I usually turn off the system pretty fast after I do it. You should have told me this earlier.

Personally, I think the player's driving style determines the best car. I'm very used to this red/white/green car, so this is the easiest one for me to do the challenge in.
