Actually I think the hybrid Lamborghini was a good move considering that you can't even drive around the block without filling up on gas. Do you think the producers of the lambo like getting out their cars every time they see a gas station? Probably not, when you think about it it makes sense, you use gas when you want to and you don't use gas when you don't want to. Besides who's gonna be doing 240 on the freeway unless it's for a short period of time when the cops aren't watching?

well when top gear tested the all electric tesla roadster, jeremy clarkson compared it to the regular elise on which it's based. he said "filling a normal elise with petrol costs £40, but charging up the batteries on this tesla from a normal outlet costs just £3.50!"

that should answer your question, it still costs money, but considerably less than 40 miles would get you with gasoline. maybe $0.75 to charge the volt's small batteries.

Frankly, I think a Hybrid Gallardo is a brilliant idea. Italian supercars like the F430 and Gallardo have loads of power, but very little torque in comparison, mostly due to the strict engine weight management to decrease rotational mass therefore increasing RPM and HP. Lighter parts can't push with as much force, and therefore can't generate as much torque, so you have engines that are larger than they need to be for increased torque. Add a high torque electric motor and voila! Instant torque!

I wouldn't say they lack torque. They use smaller high revy engines and average torque numbers is one of their characteristics. Of course they don't pack as much of it as engines with forced induction but on the other hand, you're getting absolutely quick response to the pedal, absolute immediacy and absolute controllability over the power, unlike the waves of power you get from turbos or superchargers.
