I dont know for sure that is necessarily a drill. Normally Lifeboat drills you remain on the promenade deck and the life boats stay where they are. You just report to your assigned muster station during the entire drill wearing your life jackets. This case they may be testing the cables to make sure the boats will lower then testing the boats to make sure they work properly. Since that is important in the event of an emergency.
it is a crew boat drill that they have continously during the month. sometimes guests can watch if they are on board how the equipment and the procedures (fire on board,evacuation...) are trained. It's usualy performed when docked or on ancor in port so that crew can do the drill without leaving working posts and when there are not a lot of guests and things to do...
@dudeman1234567899 My guess is the reason for the design with modern life boats is not just new technology but also in the event of rough seas waves cannot get in the life boats causing them to sink. So thats basically why almost all life boats now days are enclosed. I myself like these modern life boats better then the Titanics life boats.
if the boat capsized like posiedon how would the lifeboats work if tilted at an angle,that is if they would work at all

@camcamrich932
Modern lifeboats and their davits are designed so the lifeboats cannot sink, they would become detached if drug underwater and float to the surface.

When see lifeboats going down on a Carnival Cruise I think "that's usual... there's ALWAYS something wrong on Carnival"

I don't like how slow the boats go down. I think they should go a little faster.

@WamsWarrior Neither do I.

But I guess with all the weight that is as fast as it can go.
