  • This was right around the period of hate/love/hate that was the initial destruction of Trent's and Marilyn's friendship. So, it isn't really clear whether or not that whole Manson slur was some sort of pseudo-friendly jab or a fuck-you kick in the teeth.

It's also interesting that they showed Trent destroying images of Manson's work: Marilyn Manson directed the Starsuckers, Inc video, and that iconoclasm was more or less a form of self-deprication on Manson's part.

  • not that i support manson who i think is an asshole...charles that is.

  • What a lord

  • R-giest is comming

  • the last sentence was a big key in this. and is now what it is.

  • @36496481100 Totally agree he changed but for the better, his music became more original. With Teeth and Year Zero were two of his best albums.

  • A funeral home turned into a studio??!! Brilliant!!!

  • so much emotion and amazing music in 'the fragile' Trent i wish you were my dad and i was raised in the Tate house and then grew up in New Orlands funeral home. Id be the son of a god!

  • wats the song at 2:28?

  • @zackster21 The Wretched.

  • Stop at 5:18 and you'll see charlie's face...mtv gone subliminal!

  • @36496481100 totally

Totally agreed,he's progressed from strength to strength.I think alot of people gravitate to The Downward Spiral because of it's anger and its power which is great I love that album (I love every album though) but because Trent stepped into a slightly different perhaps more technical direction his music evolved rather than kept repeating the same generic thing that alot of people unintentionally (some times intentionally) dont understand.

  • @tattoosjohn69 yeah, but he has a kid now and he pissed away some of his money on drugs.

  • I love NIN i have my own solo music thing im trying and trent is my big inspiration im not the best in the world but could i have other peoples opinion on it? its at myspace /rankoffall

  • This isn't MTV this is MuchMusic in Canada

  • 1:30 - Antichrist Superstar and Smells Like Children!

  • lol subliminal message at 5:18 charles manson

  • People will always say "Uhhhhh, His old stuff is good but I dont like his new stuff" about any and everything thats been around as long as he has, but the fact remains

Trent Reznors new stuff >>>>>>>>> Most of whats out now

  • Also, I am going to buy this building someday.

  • @36496481100 well look at this reznor and the new reznor. they are different, voice dynamically different person. but yea the new work is good.

  • reznor is the man

  • Anyone notice Charles Manson when he mentions Sharon Tates house?

  • @empty216 Well actually Manson career would have taken off... It just would have taken a MUCH MUCH longer time than it did... Trent was like speed to Mansons career and he propelled him into stardom

  • I know I'm nitpicking, but this isn't MTV.

    I think it's actually MuchMusic.

  • 4:42 lol..smart ass.

  • Holy eff! I was just in New Orleans... I missed this one!

  • His last comment is rather interesting, considering what hes doing now..

  • follow up to the fragile:-)..so much time left through with teeth and other stuff till today..fucking time.runs too fast

  • yeah i have that problem of being isolated

  • Yes, Manson's Smells Like Children and Antichrist Superstar LPs are on the wall framed.

  • This isn't MTV! It's MuchMusic's "The New Music"

  • i was gunna say that to

  • 1:30 to 1:34... are those Manson's albums on the left wall? I'm pretty sure I saw Smells Like Children and Antichrist Superstar...

  • lonelyguy intervention...ha ha, everyone needs one sometimes. i love his sincerity

  • Wut's the song around 6:10?

  • We're In this together

  • Oh, nvm looked back the song is the perfect drug We're IN This Together is the song after that.

  • holy crap i just saw them at voodoo fest and i had no clue they were from new orleans

  • 5:18 subblem image...0.0

  • hands down, my favorite T. Rez interview

  • I admire him for admitting he's fucked up

  • lol @ the marilyn manson thing

  • he called CHARLES manson an asshole. as in the murderer, not marilyn manson

  • He seems like such a sincere, honest, intelligent, articulate person. Its a shame he hasn't passed on the musical genius genes yet !Seriously though, imagine being so successful but still so lonely. His fragile era interviews seem miserable...

  • @2853710 he has passed the musical genius genes now.

  • @2853710 This is why I relate to him; this is why I watch these interviews at 4 A.M. when I'm really sad, and they do make me feel better.

  • @2853710 I know that this reply is 2 years late, but Trent actually just had a baby a few days ago

  • @2853710 he has a child now xD :D 2 years later lol from this post

  • Wow, I really like your point about how his earlier reputation affects him now. You get a thumbs up for that. =)

  • Maybe I'm a moron, but I never thought about that before.)

  • Sadly,I agree with you .I am a hardcore NIN fan,in fact I am seeing NIN on the 29th .Although,NIN is becoming just a normal heavy rock band .I mean don't get me wrong,NIN are head and shoulder above most bands out there .I like that Trent has got his life in order, but I wish his music was a brutal as it was in the 90's

  • ...this is far delayed. but i agree in general with alot of music from the 90s.. its just not as raw as it used to be. im so glad i got to grow up thru the 90s... thats what drives me to do music today. 90s stuff and before.

  • Yea good point. I mostly live in the 70s punk movement and grunge and industrail music eras. They are more of raw and powerful. Aside from today's more poppy tunes. Seems like everyone in music today are just pop artists. (. Also people stop dissing Manson. They are bothe amazing artist. And without Marilyn Manson I would have probaly never find out about Trent reznor as early as I did.

  • I guess their place is messed up after Katrina.

  • what song is that at 3:18

  • It's called "Into the Void" off The Fragile. Great song!

  • Dman, this interview is awesome. Shame how rough he looks tho...I guess rehab fucked him up / saved him

  • he is so cute, I'm such a girl all I do is look at him and comment on his looks. Nose, hands, face, eyes, fingers everything. He is beautiful. I learned that he dose not like to be alone, that's diffrent than me, I love to be alone. It's when I'm most happy. I can be around plenty of people when I go to heaven after death.

  • yeah he bought the house from the manson family murders

  • George is such an awsome interviewer!! Love!

  • he is amazing.

  • when with teeth came out uk interviews hailed it as masterpeice slating the fragile, when year zero came out uk press slated with teeth.there are great songs on all the albums, the diversity on the fragile is stunning, i always look forward to a NIN release as your going to get something very different from before, he's writing for himself personally and that's what keeps it honest i feel.

The guy is just infinitly creative.

  • if i met him i would try to act cool and calm but i would fail lmao

  • hahaha hes cool i met him in alantic city a few years ago really shy and softspoken

  • I met him at a festival. I was just sitting somwhere in the grass and he just walked by. So He was just wandering around! So I followed him and he went to check out Interpol from the crowd. but after some time he left because too many people started to recognise him. I didnt even really talk to him. I was too shocked.

  • What festival was this?

  • Rock'n Park 2005 Holland

  • that is so fucking awsome, i try to pretend like i would know how to tell him that he has meant a great deal to me since i was 14 years old, but in all reality i am a very shy person and i would hopefully be good and drunk if i ever get the chance because i would totally lay it on the line to him.

  • The record industry is in a sad state of affairs. Money will always pervert music and it's true meaning and what it was meant for. Salute to artists that want to be honest, it ultimately creates the most powerful and vibrant music.

  • ....you would pee yourself? That's pretty bad. Are you antisocial? At least shake his hand. shit..

  • Excellent!!!

    Muy bueno!!!

    Saludos!

  • I love Trent, it's sad to see that The Fragile's ratings dropped like that. :(

  • wow! This guy's probably read more books than we'll read in a lifetime!

My husband's the one who's turned me on to NIN and, I'm digging this guy, let me tell ya!

    Year Zero is very interesting!

I'd love to have a conversation with him, although I don't know if I can match him, he'd probably talk more than me! hehe!

  • lol! yeah if i ever talked to him i would 1) faint, or 2) stare at him and maybe pee in my pants!

  • i just passed by the old nothing studios building the other day, wish he was still here, it just looks so empty

  • "because of the 'blurred lines' between commercial success and critical success"

Ahh... signs that he had plans for With Teeth. Intresting. Don't you all agree?

  • You know nothing studios doesn't exist anymore, right?

  • I LOVE YOU GEORGE.

    MUCH MUSIC FOREVER.

  • hell yeah trent reznor is awsome!!!

  • He is amazing the creativity is off the charts when it comes to this guy.

  • ya thats muchmusic alright

  • anyone notice the manson artwork on his wall?...another reason i like trent is cos he gave manson to the world..although he probably regrets it now

  • This is MUCH MUSIC from CANADA NOT MTV!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude Gorge S. and Trent Reznor this is amazing I love to hear trent speak cuz it really shows who he is which proves many hates wrong. I guess I've grown up listening to Trent 2 so what else can I say but he is an insperation

  • Yeah he makes such powerful stuff even if you don't agree with his view his stuff is powerful it gets the point across. and makes you feel.

  • yeah i have to admit i did not like the album when i listen to it the whole was through to be completely truthfull i was disapointed but now to me it seems really diffrent from his other work and i like it and i hope he makes music till he dies.

  • Oh i think i know what you mean, new orleans is where he used to live, i thought you meant he lived in his studio, my bad...

  • Correct me if i'm wrong but this is his studio, he didn't live here...

  • i remember running into him back when he lived here

  • i agree..Year Zero is fuckin amazing...idc wat anyone says (well most people love it anyways)...but it is very deep, dark, and serious. its from the point of views of diff people...the whole album gives me a HUGE IMAGINATION...my eyes will be open and i can still picture the story happening in front of me.

Reznor is brilliant at making people feel uncomfortable in a very...very smart sense.

  • I just listened to the new album, Year Zero, and played close attention to the lryics. Scary shit! Trent Reznor is a genious, but listen to his messegs through his lyrics. Very serious stuff.

  • btw, off topic a bit, but Trent Reznor being a "hottie" type flaming makes me cringe. The man's inteligent as all get out....what's that have to do with music??? ok, my other soap box issue, since when when is musical genius have anything at all to do with politics? If we have to start voting to keep the good artists alive we'd be proving the concept of "year zero" and it's brainwashing to be correct. Live Long NIN!!! Count me in Trent. end of post...

  • In my oppinion, if you have a problem with new NIN FANS....GET BENT! I have all the albums and there's always a cd per mood.

  • I don't know about "you", those who have perspective please disregard, I started listening to nin Before "Halo 2" "Pretty Hate Machine" and believe it or not, I was a "TEEN" and would have rated his music similar to those of the new "TEENS" that are die hard NIN fans Today!

  • Why won't the camera stay still?

  • listen to Year Zero ;; read the lyrics

  • Okay... just like to say to the comments about 14-16 year olds listening to NIN...

Sure, maybe the first song I heard by them was Hand that Feeds, honestly, I didn't like that song, I thought it was repetative and annoying. I'm 16, but I can relate to quite a number of songs this man has put out, and I believe I understand a great majority of them. Who is to say "kids" don't understand?

  • all right mansons name is Brian Hugh Warner and he got his band name from Marilyn Monroe and charles manson

duuu agh and yes igno93 the fragile is the best

  • "it's not that I support Manson, who I think is an asshole.... Charles that is..." laughed my ass off!

  • Oh wow, two guys I absolutely love. Trent Reznor and George Stroumboulopoulos. This couldn't get any better.

  • ok ignore my previous comment, i should eally wait until the end of the video to ask a question :D

  • who is the guy that flashes up like twice when he is talking about sheril tate's (sp?) house?

  • charles manson

  • trent reznor is realy amizing person he nos wtf is going on in this world...but mtv is full of bull shit and lies

  • Actually I Think That's Canadian Much Music, Buds.

  • what are u talking about that makes no sense im 14 i cant read that

  • Here In Canada, Our Music Station Is "MUCH MUSIC" It's A Little More Down To Earth Without All Them Bullshit Reality T.V. Shows Like MTV. We Actually Play Music Like TOOL And NIN During The Day Opposed To MTV's Britney And Justin Shit. Don't Worry About It. I'm 20, And I Still Can't Read.

  • Are you kidding me? Much effing sucks balls. It's SO trivial and in-your-face and DUMB. They play an occasional decent song but I can't stand it to wait for those songs.

  • lol, Don't Get Me Wrong, I Don't Watch It Either, Or Havn't Since I Was 15. Maybe I Just Catch It At The Right Moments.

  • 'The Fragile" -still my favorite nin album.

  • i agree 100% year zero has so much fan backing and i can not wait to see what is next for it

  • Woohoo, I bought Year Zero, it's AMAZING.

  • Tt actualy kind of is MTV...

Its called Much Music... Canadas MTV Equivalent...

There actually is a Canadian MTV aswell... But has waaaaay to much Canadian content... As if us Canadians actually want to hear ONLY our own artists... Psh...

  • hi dudes

    NIN is great.

    have a nice day.

  • My in-laws only got a downed tree. Where was his studio?

  • uhmmm... i dunno.... is this house/studio/funeral parlor still around after katrina?

    i have no idea.

  • nine inch nailz fuck ye going to see em live at the machester apollo :D

  • hmmmmm this isnt mtv

  • Yeah, the interviewer is George Strombolopolous from Much Music, in Canada.

  • trent's the best

even now with his close cropped hair and lack of neck

  • there's no such thing as the best in art, it's all personal taste... with the exception of a lot of that emotionally try-hard art. I guess what I'm saying is that as long as the art is geniune in its emotion and cause, it cannot be judged, only prefered.

  • The Fragile was by FAR Trent's best work. Although, I am not dissapointed with WT. Oh fuck it I like every album.

But... "Not that I support Manson, who I think is an asshole...Charles, that is.

  • Again...another Fat Elvis interview. It's nice to see that he eventually kicked the drugs.

  • Forget pork. The other white meat is Trent. Mmmm...so meaty.

  • Is it just me or does the interviewer seem to keep trying to probe him, in a way, about his drug addiction, (which he at one point used to brag about?) "This thing you haven't dealt with." "An intervention!" Maybe I'm reading too much into it. He kind of dodges those questions.

  • "That thing you haven't dealt with." to me, seemed to be pointing out the fact that he hadn't shaved.

  • Honestly now, is it wrong to like everything? I really love the entire NIN catalogue. This interview is amazing, by the way.

  • I like Prett y Hate Machine, Broken, Dwnward Spiral, The Fragile And With Teeth, and all of the remixes made between every album, The album still, down beyond spiral, etc.

It shows how he felt in every album. Everyone has got their one taste, i have mine, and im glad its like it is.

And this goes for all you kids, olds, suckers, whores, losers, ignorants, psychos, lovers, etc.

    Have a loveley evening.

  • I agree. There are a couple good tracks on wt amongst many i can not relate to. Sometimes I think phm is the my favorite album, others tds or broken. Notice I say my favorite not the best. That is subjective. Deal with it. I must also say that I'm in favor of any age liking nin. It shows intelligence. Now if we're talking about kids who heard the hand that feeds on the radio and bought a nin shirt, fuck off...but really...who cares what age they are? what are you, an asshole?

  • i looked at half the people that spoken, an its patheic half the people answering back are about 14-16 an have not even followed nin from first release to now, an trent reznor has made great music from pretty hate machine to where he is now, his life changed his mind changed his music changed. its a concept now stfu retards learn music.

  • It's pathetic that 14-16 year olds like Nine Inch Nails? You're an idiot. And people are entitled to like a certain album or not without being called retards. It's something we all have, it's called individual taste.

I personally don't like With Teeth. It's got a few good tracks but the rest is just crap. With Teeth is not the Nine Inch Nails I knew.

I miss The Downward Spiral era...

  • imo the fragile was by far trents best album ever. Its got so much feeling. Trent deff wasn't holding back when he wrote it. I wouldn't say WT is bad its just different then the normal trent.

  • Trent himself said that he was lying to himself and hiding from his fears with that album, WT is Trent being honest with himself and accepting what he is/was.

  • this isnt an mtv interview..its muchmusic

  • Well... You're intitled to you're opinion but Downward Spiral is the best NIN album by far and With Teeth is yet another of Reznor's masterpieces.

  • the fragile is my favourite album...every song seems to have its own meaning and tell a story

  • HAHAHA charles that is.

  • HIS home HIS work. btw with teeth is an awsome record, it may not be up to par with broken or TDS but its still better than anything else out today. if think you can find one record, send me a message

  • With Teeth is a horrible album, I personally would much rather hear more songs from the Downward Spiral era.

  • Granted the With Teeth isn't their best work, but this sh*t happens. I think that it's a good thing their doing something a little different, better than just throwing up the same kind of stuff with a different name as so many bands have done.

  • broken is flawless, 8 tracks- amazing!

  • they are industrial and that is considered a sub genre of electronica and metla nor rock.

the fraile was probably NIN worsy album, full of filler, and only two decnet singles, it i sa dull listen adn let me down too much, he should have put the best of both onto a 12 track cd instead

  • The reason jefframsaroop said it was supposed to "bring rock back" was because although NIN isn't really rock, they/he first established popularity within alternative circles... And The Fragile is fantastic. It's truly a masterpiece—one of the very few literally flawless albums. If you think it's full of "filler", it's because you have a short attention span...

  • Fuck the singles! The FRAGILE is a whole piece, even the rest of the band helps write some of the songs that's why it KICKED SOOOOO MUCH ASS!

  • It's Perfect, I Agree. His Ultimate 'Beethoven' Yet. And Probably Always Will Be. Perfect Break-Up Album I Might Add As Well.

  • Alright, as much as I agree with The Fragile statement, With Teeth is put together very well. The placement of the songs and their transitions from one another are perfectly done. The lyrics and music mesh very well together; and I think, overall, it was a very thought out album, and not "patchy" whatsoever. :o

  • I think it's decent at best. There are a couple really good tracks, but a couple really lame ones as well.

  • grrr. i love you Trent, you are my god, but a, 5 o clock shadow doesn't work for you babe, you look good still, sexy,,,,,,,,,, sizzle!

  • "If there's a snuff movie, I want to see it - you know what I mean. I'm not supporing it, or I guess I am, but... I am curious."

  • It's actually amazing to me that The Fragile album sales dropped so dramatically. I can't believe it didn't do well because it's the greatest album Trent Reznor has put out, IMO.

  • Well it was a double album, and it carried a double album price. Hard to do for anyone who isn't mainstream. Pop music had taken over, and rock was in a "down period". It was supposed to be that album that brought rock back to dominance, that just didn't happen, and for that a lot of people deemed it as a failure.

As for the date, I would guess somewhere around 2003, And All that could Have Been came out in 2002.

  • They should turn that funeral home into a bed n breakfast caus i would like live there

  • kk......41 years old.....still acting like a whiney little bitch.....hmmmmmmm, what is wrong with that picture??? now......him bent over, with jordie white 'behind' him......very very very wrong......ewwww

  • What?

  • AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH I love you Trent Reznor I will marry you some day XD
