Being Bicultural: One Language

i can so relate to this topic . It can be so confusing to other . i'm from Trinidad i moved here when i was 12 years. I look African American and people sometimes laugh at me because i was finding it hard to combine outer self with who am cluturally.When i first moved here. As i got older i take my first home and second home and share both experinces.i grew up in both places and i have to remain true to myself. LOL Also being raised under British words i can relate to different words spelling.

and I can so relate to your response...I'm Anglo with a lot of African influences from my youth which helped me with African-Americans when I got here. Combining the outer self with your culture is a good way to put it!

I'm not sure that many would consider British and American to be bicultural, exactly.

Sounds like you had a cuturally rich childhood.

When I was a kid, my Mom used to drag me to the ballet, the symphony, opera, etc. We'd go at least once/month. I always asked her why I had to come, and she said she was trying to culture me. She said I'd appreciate it, when I was older. She was right! It taught me to love all kinds of music.

I remember the clock and that the retail stores looked like retail stores. Didn't stay long. Old days, ya know.

My favorite violin is a Mittenwald though. Italians have the idea that violins should sound syrupy sweet. Like the language I guess. The Germans make them with some guts and spit in 'em. Like the language I guess.

The real work was arriving the US and speaking "American" but not having much of a clue...like no idea how American "football" is played (still dont't), tv shows, MacDonalds, clothes, etc.

Very good vid. Glad you finally got started. My only complaint was that it was way too short. And that is a real compliment. I enjoyed the personal story telling style. Gives us more and make them longer.

I'm strugling with the compression from the crap hw/sw that I'm using right now and getting it small enough to upload. I'm going to a mega electronics mart today to try to get a unique component I need so I can do the full 10 minute "Dear Kevin vid I want to do!

Don't know a lot about s/w to use for compressing vids. I use what came with my PC. WinDVD Creator to capture as an MPG file (very large). Then use Windows MovieMaker to convert to WMV format (smaller file size although not as high quality).

I am sure once you get started you will have more than 10 mins for the "Dear Kevin" vid. I look forward to it very much. I think we can share out thoughts and ideas much better with vids than with a 500 character limit comment.

I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you. hahaahahahaha Passion for German, self-teaching, highschool and college courses, taking off to live there, attention to detail, years of working in a retail store in Munich. blablabla. love German!
