  • FIX THE AUDIO

  • contd......... can completely appreciate his humor. Gosh, if we all had the same sense of humor, how BOOOOOOORING the world would be!

  • Really, seriously.......... if GK is not your cup of tea.....well, then....... he's not your cup of tea. As a far on his (for decades), I ask that, if you do not appreciate his type of humor, just ignore him. If you have an agenda, which includes ripping him apart.............. gosh...... WHY? Why not just let him do his thing, and those of us who resonate with his brand of humor, enjoy it??? I PERSONALLY have seen him live 5 times, grew up with him via radio, and being from the midwest...

  • @gretchkath4

    welcome to the internet....

  • @BarbarianDragon and what is that exactly supposed to mean? Forgive me not being able to read between the lines.... if you care to clarify your statement, I would love to respond to your comment.

  • @gretchkath4

well, if you're railing against trolls, then this must be your first time using the internet. but i can see you're getting the hang of it.

  • love the cable-access feel of the old letterman shows

  • what does "tracking" mean?.......lol

  • Both at the top of their game

  • Whoever invented the SLP and LP video quality modes are twisting in writhing pain in their soul coffens right now..

  • A face for radio.

  • I was in the other room when it got to 4:11 and I thought my sound card half died! Glad it's just the video.

  • I used to listen to him when i was a little kid n.n

  • nice vid. thanks mr esoteric

  • I love GK and letterman, both are some well humored midwest liberal badasses.

  • You can tell Letterman admires Keillor. Got to love him. Beautiful voice, and btw he can sing, too!

  • 1:58--hairy ape

  • Keillor is truly a National Treasure - There's just no one else like him.. such a brilliant story teller.. and entertainer... Long Live GK!!

  • He's like a 1980s John Hodgeman. Sadly, he doesn't look much better today. Love APHC though.

  • Bears - beets - battlestar Galactica anyone?

  • Thank you tracking.

  • @McJasper9999

That said I love watching this stuff. I never saw it when I was a child and now it seems so retro.

  • awesome old school "tracking" VHS tunign heads up display- GK rules

  • @atfatw if you read about a 5 yo girl having a playtime with her cute little puppie, you'd still find somthing horrid to say would'nt you.

  • @hitchhiker38

hahaha. stupid people are often THE most funniest people on this planet

  • @atfatw Yes, I guess you can be funny sometimes

  • R.I.P. Garrison just heard about it on CNN so sad :(

  • @planetdarwin What !!! He's not dead.

  • Garrison deserves respect. But gap tooth can shut the f'ck up at anytime.

  • why don't they ever do stuff like this anymore? does nobody read?

  • My first exposure to him after hearing about him on the Cleveland show. Interesting bloke. His book didn't get made into a film though. Yay Sagan!

  • He's a great mind ... can't sing worth a damn, but he's a great mind for sure.

  • @lexxtalionis Garrison Keillor? I'm terribly sorry, but he can sing.

  • I wish he would make another appearance on Letterman. They are such a perfect pairing.

  • I forgot to say, Garrison, I absolutey love your voice. Been to many of your concerts.

  • I love Garrison. He helps to make me real. Especially with his Cat songs. Ha! I would be very happy living in Lake Woebegone, Blah, blah, blah...

  • Garrison needs some longer pants!

  • He has a face made for radio.

  • @banksnot

Does that matter? He's a genius of humor, both writing, talking and singing. There'll never be another GK.

  • All hail the OG badass GK! Wobegone represent, motherfucker!

  • Yes, I agree with Keeler. Texas was unreadable. Maybe it's just that I'm not a Michener fan. I'd rather listen to Keeler than read his books. His voice brings down my blood pressure.

  • The Prairie Home Companion show has given millions of people great incite and entertainment for more than 30 years. It has given me hundreds of not thousands of hours of happiness. What have you produced for humanity besides poisonous comments like this?

  • Freedom of speech which is a right given by America's founding fathers, entitles individuals to dissenting views.

I'm sure meandpepsi has loads of humanitarian awards plastering his/her walls (sarcasm)

You may also want to buy a dictionary. Rather than incite, I think you meant insight.

  • @mylene97531 Its the laf refuge of an idiot toe pick up on someones splleing, as they don't have a prooper argument to retort. This is my freedom of speech, is that ok with you? Or do I have something wrong with me, that you will just have to pick up on because you have no other argument

  • Comment removed

  • @mylene97531 Far from moot, I think you have just made my argument crystal clear.

  • Keillor is one of the great voices of our time. It doesn't matter if you agree with his politics or not, he definitely represents the thoughts of many and he does it in the most sincere manner. I love his work.

  • <3!!

  • I was just watching Dave interview Hunter Thompson and Crispin Glover, and now Garrison! It just seems like there were more interesting people back then.

  • Ha ha Garrison was wonderfully able to capture the essense of what it means to be minnesotan. in that book in the manifest that that guy tried to nail to the squat frumpy luthern church it is an unbelievable weird dreary frumpy awful just plain nuts place and Garrison captures minnesotaism at its finest whoopee! buy and read it.

  • I was a huge fan of PHC since about 1981. But beginning in the mid-90's I began to tire of GK's sticks-in-the-eye aimed at conservatives. By 2000 his bitterness just overwhelmed his schtick and I quit him.

He's great when he delves the psyche of midwestern middle America. But his sense of entitlement to taxpayers money while overtly pushing a political party just disgusts me today. You can take public money. You can push whatever politics you want. You just can't do both at the same time.

  • Thank you for saying what many are thinking.

  • @Sardondi i like your second paragraph

  • he needs a tan on his arms or wrists

  • He's feisty! Go GK!

  • I saw him in SFO a week ago. He wore red Keds, red sox, blue jeans, bad jacket. . looks like he hasnt changed much thru the years!

He "did" Sonnets for an hour and a half. If one was memorized he stared at his left hand while he recited.

  • And where are those vicious little bullies now? Not getting paid thousands to say a few words for Honda I'm sure.

  • "... at their prime here?" Are you KIDDING ME? Garrison is on top of his game every day. Letterman I have no time for...

  • what a charming bastard, I enjoyed watching this!

  • Thanks for putting this up..love to see these guys in their prime. Both so clever. Just watched his movie Prairie Home Companion..I really liked it.

  • woah! this is the first live footage ive seen of young Garrison!

  • Great guys, great book.

  • Lol VHS

    Good post ^^

  • Just seems so wise!

  • two smart, funny guys from the Midwest!

I love it, and they're both at their prime here.

  • when garrison sings, nellies and marys dream of cuddling and spooning with DYKES ON BYKES.

  • Keillor on Letterman! My, my, my...I thought Keillor didn't do tv. Thanks so much for posting!

  • I saw this at the time. I had no interest in Prairie Home Companion or Lake Wobegon and still don't, but found this interview one of the most memorable on Letterman. I've read a bunch of his other books, though. Just gave someone Radio Romance earlier tonight.

  • Oh, my, vintage Keillor. His voice was so different then. Great, great find.

  • Man, I LOVE Garrison Keillor. This was too funny.

  • This clip is quite rare and it's the first time I've ever seen it. Such a great post. I still can't get enough of Keillor.
