The story goes like this: the prop made for the new series was small. Then this toy came out - it was bigger to accommodate the batteries - and the Doctor Who producers revamped the TV prop on a mold from this toy. So this Sonic Screwdriver is exactly the same size as the one Doctor Who uses on TV!

I had the same problem. I used a little(friggin tiny ass) screwdriver and opened it up, the sound chip was missing and there was no bulb in it for the lights. xD, I sent it back ad got a new one. Anyway, open it up and see if the insides are there. Good Luck!

That noise is made in the show every time the screwdriver is activated. Also, of course you can't get out real screws! It's not real, you can't sonically twist them out. Also, it slides up and down because the doctor's screwdriver has different effects when raised of lowered.

oh and i must add, what production of the SS is this? is it the one with david tennant on the box or christopher eccleston. another review said how the second generation of SS's made (david tennant cover) had a less defined noise.
