It is a very dangerous and demanding job. Because of this the gov. has 3 options:

1 - Pay to educate all non-english speaking applicants

2 - Not have enough firefighters and let the state burn

3 - Have Bi-Lingual supervisors in the roles where they are needed.

If you morons would think for a second you would realize that, while it sucks they had to fire ONE GUY, it is the only viable course of action.

This is very wrong. First all foreigners should be required to learn English if they are going to live in this country. There should not be a question on what is the official language of the US is. It is and always should be English.

It's the de facto language actually, in the country as a whole and for the state of Oregon, which is why they can get away with it for now. Most states themselves have declared English as their official language, however.

That's not to say I do not agree with you. I would never presume to live and work in another nation without learning their language and culturally assimilating myself. Not doing so is like a slap in the face to the people who are taking you in as their own.

@dudeonthasopha i don't really feel comfortable driving on the road with ENGLISH street signs and peole who can't speak english! It's common sense; if you go to another country, learn the language. I have been all over the world, and whenever i go somewhere new for an extended period of time, i ALWAYS brush up on the language and culture- its called assimilation! its also called respect. Not to mention, english is FREE for them to learn. All i have to say, is thank god for private school!

We have many immigrants who are citizens, and many citizens who speak only a foreign language, and for all matters of safety it's an important value to have all.

Your employer owns your job and you should get to contract with him for whatever amount you agree upon. Its called competition. Its called the marketplace.
