  • I understand completely the fact that Freud's theory of dreams is simplistic but we have to understand that everything starts with the basic psychosexual stages of development. I believe that dreams need to be understand with the following idea: our mind is made out of several layers : Unconscious, Pre-Conscious, Conscious. As you said, dreams are coded but they appear because there is something in our ordinarily lives that is bothering us. I believe we need to ask ourselves:

  • @gettherythm why is it that the present situation bother us? When is it that it was determined that the present situations made us feel bad regarding it, and, thus, having a dream which shows those issues? I believe that this was the question that Freud once asked himself. Thus, he needed to find the place where everything started: Infantile Sexuality. That is the reason why everything is related to sex, at least hat is what I believe.

  • @gettherythm Yes, but why does dream content have to be simply things that bother us? I does it have to be just sexuality and Infantile at that? Even Freud himself changed his views on this, by adding additional drives beyond sexuality. Also the majority of Neo-Freudians reject his exclusive view that the Libido is primarily sexual in nature. Again I really think that if anyone has dreamed a dream they can refute Freud's arguments found in his early works.

  • @ozzycda I understand; nonetheless, Freud argued that there is two main drives: eros and Thanatos. I really do not know what took him so long to undergo the study of Thanatos since we can see it on the oral aggressive stage of psychosexuality. I believe that Freud was right on a sense, it is true that on dreams we lack the "reality testing" which we obtain and, thus, we can say that the Ego is the one who's weak and this is the reason why every impulse and repressed thoughts breaks into

  • @ozzycda consciousness. Now, it is also true that this manifestation of the unconscious is present in everything we do because it is our psychosexuality that makes our character trait, our psychoneuroses, and our neurotism become alive. We are all neurotics, psychotics or perverse and it is on every slip of the tongue, on every lapsus, on every dream, etc. that we can get into our psychosexual history and thus find the motives of our psychoneuroses.

  • @ozzycda Everything that is written as Neo will always change the original system of though, and well, it is true, there is not a perfect system of thought but there is always the fact that there will never be such because of a lot of variables that will be really hard to undergo without so much conflict.

Thank you for your videos, I am currently doing my Psychoanalytic training in Mexico and I like that people like you who have good critics and firm based. Good luck with your major!

  • @gettherythm I go with Carl Jung' assessment of Personality Types that Freudian systems, classical and neo, work for certain types of personality, same with Adlers, and this can be extended to other schools of thought. Therefore if it works for you and for your future patience, that's great! I wish you the best of luck with your training and thank you for your wishes as well.

  • @ozzycda Now, let us say that we have a dream where someone is flying through a city and he is enjoying the pleasure of seeing all the people that he loves and cares about. If that were to happen on a dream it must be because there is something in our ordinary lives that is making us feel good about it. But, again, like I said earlier, why is it that makes this sexual object, situation, or whatever we went on our wake state that makes us feel good?

  • @ozzycda. I believe it has to do with, again, our psychosexuality conficts and solutions to them. I understand that the fact that Freud focused on sexuality makes it really hard to understand why is it that everything has to do with sex. I believe that the latter reason is because we have two concepts correlated in themselves: sex and love. We cannot separate them. I know it might sound a little bit non-cientifically, but, I have always wondered: why is of breasts that excite us?

  • This really helped me, i am studying him at the moment and found this video ever so good.

  • I would like to read something by carl young.

    what book do you reccomend?

  • @geganobo Well most of his books are very hard to find since they are usually either out of print or expensive so I would recommend checking out your local library for this. Books by Jung that are good to start with are "Symbols of Transformation" and "Psychological Types", also "Two Essays on Analytical Psychology". There some good sampler books that have selections from many of his writings such as "The Basic writings of Carl Jung" and "The Essential Jung".

  • @ozzycda Also the Jungian psychologist named June Singer did an excellent summary and real life application of Jung's theories entitled "Boundaries of the soul". Also Jung's autobiography called "Memories, Dreams, Reflections" is an amazing book to read as well. Hope that helps!
