In 1980, I took a small vacation from working 2 jobs in Anchorage and flew out to St. Paul, Priibilof Islands for bird, seal, and other animal watching. The experience of flying Anchorage - Cold Bay - St. Paul, then non-stop back to Anchorage on Reeve is part of Alaska aviation history. It is a shame there are not more videos available for public access.
I lived on Adak in the 70's and flew on Reeve Aleutian Airways a few times. I went to Anchorage with the Little League Team and we got to meet Bob Reeve -- quite an amazing man. I will never forget my time on Adak or flying on Reeve Aleutian Airways!!
I have the book "Flying Beats Work--The Story Of Reeve Aleutian Airways" signed by several of the Reeve family. A great airline with a fantastic history, fleet, and safety record.
My grandfather was a co pilot of this airline. He was killed in a crash on Great Sitkin Island. I think the Captain had falsified some documents, and was flying in bad weather conditions when they crashed into a mountain. I might look for this book.
A note to "GalaticCabaret2", I was on Adak next door to Great Sitkin when a Christmas flight hit the mountain. The Reeve pilots had to be among the best in the world to even apply for a job.
They flew when the Navy P3's were grounded for bad weather. Your Grandfather was a Great pilot.
Thank you for the kind words. This happend before I was born when my mom was a kid. My mom and her brothers have been talking about making a trip up there one of these days. Some of my cousins and I will be going up also. It was going to be last summer, but too many things came up. So it might be this summer or next.
Thanx for the return,, Windee,, my wife and I have looked into a trip back to Adak. We live in North Carolina, and it cost less to go from here to Anchorage, than from Anchorage to Adak.
Adak is another world,, one that never leaves you,, just remember,, Once you go to Alaska,, you never come all the way back.. good luck on the trip,, and never forget,, Reeve Aleutian,, \ The best Pilots in the World!!!!

I was one of the few to fly Reeves Cold Bay to Seattle service! All the way across the Pacific in a Lockheed Electra. Those pilots were the best!

Shame such a great livery like Reeve Aleutian's is no more. They also had 727 jets.
