If you cut worm in half it will die of course... BUT do it anyways because cutting worms in half is fun, besides what do you have to lose, these worms are considered hermaphrodites.
will allen at Growing Power Farms has a video on how to remove the worms that looks super easy. put an old window screen with some hole in it over the top of the bin and then put some food and bedding on top of that and forget about it for about a month or so and they will migrate up into the top part of the bin. you then remove the screen. put the worms somewhere dark while you deal with the compost and start over again by putting the worms back. so much easier than hand separating.
a good idea would be to cover the top of the castings/ food scarps with a couple of sheets of wet newspaper to help keep it dry your worms will thank you for it or wet carpet ;)
The only worms that regenerate when chopped in half are planarians. If you have those in your worm bins you are in trouble. There are species of planarians that feed on earthworms, and have wiped out entire populations!! If you slice a typical earthworm in half, it is toast.
Show me a warm that you can shop in half and it'll regenerate so can show you a way to multiply your worm farm population really quickly. Please don't spread misinformation!
Right (worms are hermaphrodites. Male and female at the same time), Of course, if you shop in half any worm it will die. Some worms have 5 hearts (they need them to pump their movements) and the parts keep on moving for a short time when they're cut in half, but they'll die. They DO NOT regenerate like this video says.
-hotglue another tub to the top of that one with holes big enough for the worms to fit drilled between the two tubs. -fill the above tub or 'drawer' with organic matter/compost and then the worms will start coming up through the holes in droves to their new food source. not even worms like to live in their own shit so you'll have a nice tub o black gold. next up: how to get compost tea out of the setup..

Chopping your worms in half, contrary to popular belief, will kill them. They dont grow into two new worms.

I have acarus, or mites, in my worm bin.
They don´t hurt the worms, I think, but they eat the food.
Do I have to get rid of them? How?
Thanks 4 your answers

Hi :) A fork might save worms from being cut in half. The head end might survive but they generally die.
