I just installed this Was Using Suse. Now Kubuntu all in all its easier than suse no setting up millions of repositories. I'm happy. Was using Ubuntu then mint then suse Now Kubuntu. :) Good fun.

i have no sound...i have no Fing sound in firefox....why??????????? it works fine for everything else hours of googling to no avail. One time i found a fix a year ago via terminal on google something abt firefox using asla or pulse audio...but that website is no where to be found. Its safer to install the netbook versions of kubuntu and ubuntu rather than the desktop version most users prefer the use of a external cd drive instead of a usb flashdrive.

If you use Ubuntu you could just go to terminal and type sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

or for Xubuntu

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

or for Edubuntu

sudo apt-get install edubuntu-desktop

u dont have to install kubuntu again if u still have ubuntu, u can just type sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop. in terminal and u can have both genom and KDE, u can select ur season on the login screen, genom or KDE. did u know kubuntu is actualy ubuntu with K-desktop ?

well this was more difficult to get it to work on my laptop. Maybe because i have an ati graphics card b/c i was trying to activate compiz, but still i preferred the synaptic package manager over adept XD. If your used to ubuntu you might like ubuntu more, but the kubuntu is really eye popping

For those asking which is better. Kubuntu and Ubuntu are basically the same thing at the core of the product, only the visual interface or basically what you see is different, but underneath it, basiclaly same. This goes for almost all linux os, opensuse, ubuntu, kubuntu, etc etc.

I downloaded Kubuntu 8.10, burned it as a data cd to a cd-r with Nero, and set my optical drive to be read first in the boot order. It doesn't recognize the cd though. Why won't it work?

oh! and only place the .iso on the cd! i placed a Sha1sum file in there to, you can only burn 1 file (the iso file) then it works.

they have a different collection of programs designed for the desktop. you can still use gnome apps in kde and vise versa though. kde is designed to look and act more like mac, whereas gnome is supposed to be more like windows. i'm not really sure what xfce is supposed to be like, personally i don't like it at all, just pointless. theres also fluxbox but that seems even more pointless

just download it, theres no reason you can't. i don't run kubuntu but as far as i'm aware, if it has a program like iceweasel then thats the same thing as firefox, just modified (i'm guessing the open source version). knoppix and kubuntu both run the kde desktop, which is why they look similar. thats why ubuntu and fedora look similar (they both run gnome) and xubuntu looks like gentoo (both run xfce)

KDE, has higher graphics (and sometimes it is slower) GNOME a little bit lower and is a little bit faster (what some people say) If you have a older computer you can also do XFCE that is lots lighter and faster and it is not even that ugly xD it is pretty cool actually (i have XFCE atm)

You can. Ubuntu has started selling in some shops in the USA. There's nothing preventing you to sell Linux. The only thing you must do, is provide the source code if a customer requests for it.

However, its typically not sold like normal software is. Instead of selling software as a product, you sell tech support with the software. Software remains free.

The alternative is to download & do everything yourself. If you run into problems, its your responsibility.

Either option is your choice.

Could anyone tell me if Kubuntu helps you partition your drive or does so for you automatically? Im running windows on a drive that already is split with the other half empty. I would like to, if possible, install Kubuntu on this empty half. Could I still have the windows/linux boot option if I install it there? you can order one from ubuntu site for free. But it takes around 8-10 weeks for the CD to arrive. The fastest way is to download the iso file from the site, if you have good internet connection, burn the image on a CD and then run it off the CD or install it :-) Hope that helps.
