Class all the way, and ....talent all the way!!!............ whether he may sing, play guitar or keyboard (and many other instruments), song writing- "Stevie" is just fantastic in anything he does! You can't compare the skills this man has with no others!!
even when eric is my all time hero guitar player, winwood is amaing. Just listen dear mr fantasy in crossroads fest 2010, with eric. Great. But in 2007, in the same fest he played it alone and his guitar solo, without been difficult, it´s one of the most emotional and incredible solos Ive heard in my whole life. Ive recently disovered him and in 2 weeks I am a fan.
Class act all the way. From what I understand, Steve didn't necessarily enjoy Dave Mason's regimented way of music, whereas Steve wanted to jam a bit more. I wonder what Steve thinks of Donald Fagen and/or Steely Dan... so precise and calculated music.
notice the significant delay in his responses - clearly a lot going on upstairs. or perhaps the aftermath of many, many drugs when he had long hair. i will let the fans decide. i want to see him and ozzy in a debate. but in all seriousness, i love his 80's synth music. love it.
Nice guy. It's great when people who make music you love, come across as cool people too, no arrogance or bad attitude. Professionals who don't have anything to prove usually seem to be this way. Good stuff.
I think it was on Arc of the Diver, he played all the instruments, engineered it and did the whole shabang. He is my "Prince". A musical genius that can play any instrument handed to him. I wish I could have seen Traffice live, but I was about 12 back then. Dear Mr. Fantasy grant me one wish :) ( as for the dipstick comment about the jacket, he's 62 years old. I guess he should be wearing tight leather pants and an unbuttoned shirt like some of the old rockers do, gross!
I'm a fan of that man from the beginnings of the Spencer Davis Group! He is top class and very authentic, (which is rare in the poprockworld!). Buy his nine lives CD and discover very good music and a golden voice.
LMAO ... Mr Humphrey, do you have a long history of having your wonderful music rejected by producers and record companies ? Otherwise, what is it that has put a chip on each of your shoulders ?
Yes, it's amusing - there's always something at the root of it with guys like this. LOL - I did catch your "humpphrey" reference. I think it is quite likely right on. It is the case with a lot of these types. Complete lack of interest from the opposite sex is probably pretty tough to deal with.
@gcmc2 I'm not criticizing Winwoods music. I think its great or I wouldn't have been attracted to this video, I'm just amazed at his appearance and his strange accent. I wouldn't be seen dead in that Jacket that looks as if he's bought from a charity shop
Glad U're not criticizing his music. I think U see, though that most are puzzled by Ur comment. If U came to enjoy & share on Winwood, why do U look to criticize ? I don't understand. U want to criticize his accent when most of us are talking about WHAT he says & his respectful nature. U want to attack him for the jacket he's wearing ? It's just so empty & irrelevant. Guy IS one of the greats. History will identify that - not his choice of jacket. Sorry - Ur post is just too silly for words.
@gcmc2 Im with you! I could care less of his choice of jacket. Im in awe of some of the songs, bands, etc he has done, wow, he is so talented! He will be a legend, he started at 19?
As far as his "accent: unlike alot of Americans, he seems to speak perfect English. lol
@scriltist is there any trace of a midlands accent? He sounds more slightly London, maybe he was told to lose his accent for international (i.e. US) audiences!
@anthonythirteen He's a Brummie, a posh Brummie now... the vowels are really Brummie expect for "u", which he now pronounces less "oo" than the Brummie way...
@anthonythirteen He's a Brummie, a posh Brummie now... the vowels are really Brummie expect for "u", which he now pronounces less "oo" than the Brummie way... listen to how he says the word "band": it is very Midlands...
@220773 It's a very faint trace. Just sounds quite posh. Compare with Clapton, who has a clearly London-influenced accent, albeit 'refined' for non-UK (i.e. USA) audiences! SW accent doesn't fit with a guy who dropped out of school early & seemingly came from quite a working class background.
@scriltist He's a Brummie, a posh Brummie now... the vowels are really Brummie expect for "u", which he now pronounces less "oo" than the Brummie way...
@adindin He's a Brummie, a posh Brummie now... the vowels are really Brummie expect for "u", which he now pronounces less "oo" than the Brummie way...
.....lol, that would mean a very large inheritance solely for myself. Have you any more curses you'd like to give me?
But don't forget in the holistic world a curse can mirror back at you....be warned as you never know what deity picks up your messages that travel through the heavens or even hell....he's all knowing and all hearing.
Ooh I feel a song coming on, its sounds like heavy metal I think?
since i first heard winwood in late 60's i've been enraptured with the music. each album, each phase he surprises me how he still can create great brilliance. he has changed my life. what an inspiration...
When I see him interviewed I always think geez, how many superstars behave like this ? Really not many. He's always so unaffected & genuinely engaged in the conversation. No bluster or bulldust at all. Most actors and top singers are still acting all the way through their interviews. They just can't help themselves. It's so obvious that he was just 100% made of music from the very start. Also, as previously mentioned, he's in awful good shape for a 60 year old ! Guy just amazes me
listening to him talk you wouldn't think he was one heck of a soul singer - how classy english people are! Imagine some american singer sounding like noel coward!haha
Notice how he paused to thank the interviewer for a compliment before he answered a question. He is a truly cultured English gentleman. A class act all the way.
that's exactly what makes traffic SOOO good. they didn't play for commercialism, they just played because they loved to play. and man, were they good! they never, ever get old no matter how much you listen to them
Watch the DVD of Bonnaroo from 2005 or 06 - Winwood takes the guitar for a 'Fantasy' and wails/plays harder and with more talent than anyone who appeared on that DVD (including Warren Haynes) Frickin amazing!!
the interviewer doesnt know that steve is a great guitar player and really that whole thing about clapton is just dum steve is a great musician and he looks like hes thinking oh here we go its one of those dum comparisons fact is he plays bass mandolyn drums and he's just great hes found his own sound on the guitar maybe the interviewer should talk to clapton so he can point out how dum that comment was

I sometimes forget I'm talking to foreign people, even you Aussies don't get the English sense of humour.
I think Winwoods jacket looks worthy of Les Pattersons style, he just needs the dribbling mouth to go with it
