The Nether contains enemies called 'Blaze' which, when killed, drop Blaze Rods, which make Blaze Powder, which (combined with Ender Pearls, retrieved from killing Endermen) create Eyes of Ender. These can be used to activate an End portal in a stronghold. This leads you to the final boss battle. So, basically, yes. The Nether does contain some useful materials, but not much! :)

@TonyTigerize Try downloaded version. Put settings to max FPS, render distance no more than normal, graphics set to fast NOT fancy, turn clouds off maybe, and turn particles to minimized. That's all I can think of for more FPS. If your still laggy, then you got an ancient PC lol.
