San No. the impeller is just fine. Water PSI from my house is around 50-70 PSI coming out a 5/8 hose. The pump is force fed water @ probably 5-10 GPM. This lower unit is taken off at least 2 times a year on my race boat for inspection. Water pump is replaced every 1-2 years. Each time it comes off the water pump looks new. When I replace it I just do it for good measure. If you have more info or want to debate this please send me a personal message.
where on earth did you find that? I have been looking for a 85xs forever methinks I would destroy myself with a 1500...enjoy and be safe looking forward to seeing more video...

I am ready for more of this one...you got to post more...I have my 1250 hanging in the garage for the winter...I need to replace the wire harness...I learned to water ski behind a Carlson Contender with a 69 1250 merc...we blew it up in 91 and took me 18 years to get another one...wow I love it!!!
@mcmanustm I took the contender out last week with the 1250 Ran up to 62 mph pretty easy. Getting new steering in this week then I hope to see 64 out of it. Fast motor.

mcmanustm, The 1250 will be on the water as soon as ice is out. But it wont be on for long cause I have a 1500xs in my garage now.
