Verschiedene Unterarten des Tigers scheinen bereits ausgerottet zu sein. Verantwortlich ist neben der Zerstörung ihres Lebensraumes vor allem die Jagd auf sie. Früher war die Trophäenjagd auf Tiger in Mode - es wurden regelrechte Treibjagden veranstaltet. Heute sind Tiger in ihrem gesamten Lebensraum geschützt. Unterbinden kann dies die Jagd auf sie aber leider nicht. So hat z.B. die Wilderei in den letzten Jahren wieder verstärkt zugenommen.
Es scheint auch an politischem Willen zu mangeln. Und solange die traditionelle chinesische Medizin Tigerprodukte immer noch nachfragt, ist der Handel mit gewilderten Tigern nach wie vor lukrativ.

I think the beauty in this shot is in the reaction of the tigers towards the camera. I would love to see what they are doing to the microphone. According to the sounds they're either trying to eat it or leave their sent on it.

Did you know that today there are more tigers "behind bars" in zoos and private captivity then in the wild?
WWF estimates that only 3200 tigers survive today in their habitat.
2010 is the year of the Tiger in the chinese calendar. It is also the year we must fight to guarantee that tigers will still exist in nature.
