If NATO/ISAF succedes in Afghanistan then we would have defied all odds and successfully controled Afghanistan (which nobody has been able to do yet).
If we fail, Afghanistan will just go into a civil war again and soon or later will get invaded again.
They were invaded by the British, Persians, Soviets and now NATO/ISAF.
