Any government program that provides jobs in Texas is TAX FUNDED. Fed programs that create jobs in Texas aren't a gift from the government to Texas. It's an EXCHANGE. The people of Texas pay federal taxes for that. If they left the union, they wouldn't have to.

Secession is a state's right as much as quitting one's job is a worker's right. It is a shield against federal ineptitude and corruption. The founders understood that the federal government was a collection of states that joined together only to enhance their interests. If you joined a club that began to demand you pay out of your pocket to pay for their reckless spending, you would want to quit too. The states joined willingly, and they can leave at their own will. Texas is one of the richest states in the union ranking the 3rd largest tax generating state. We make more money for the federal government then we ever get back. Plus, we are legally allowed to succeed with out repercussion.

It makes me sad that MSNBC spreads just as much propaganda as FOX. If you were to look at what countries are doing the best you would come to realize that these institutions don't actually do anything better. They just cost money that could be used to fuel the economy and lower prices. Just research the Economic Freedom Index. All top 5 countries have barely any of these agencies but have socialized medicine and still have lower taxes than the US. Many of them have equal to higher incomes too.

Ok I live in Wisconsin, so the issue of Texas leaving the U.S. is pretty much a non-issue for me, but this argument Olbermann is trying to make about Texas being crippled without the presence of the federal government is just silly. Any government program that provides jobs in Texas is TAX FUNDED. Fed programs that create jobs in Texas aren't a gift from the government to Texas. It's an EXCHANGE. The people of Texas pay federal taxes for that. If they left the union, they wouldn't have to.

@hapz3000 That very well may be so. The only point I'm making is Texas is one of the states that probably provides much more in resources than it takes in federal aid. This due to the fact they provide a butt load of oil and probably other things. And for what it's worth, I'm opposed to earmark projects, subsidies, etc, as well as coming to the aid of people who can't figure out that living in a flood plain comes with some risk. Fed. aid should be for the unfortunate, not the incompetent.

I dislike Olbermann as much as I dislike Hannity and idiots like him on Fox News. The secession was a very legitimate movement, and personally I'm a huge fan of Ron Paul, so Olbermann certainly didn't win any points with me here. The TSA has gone too far, and the federal government imposes itself on the states on a regular basis. The federal government far overextends it's actual authority on a regular basis.

I believe Olbermann just stated every reason to secede! For every dollar Texans send to the Fed Government, their return is 92 cents. Let's not forget that all these programs he speaks of are forced upon the state with strings attached. The Texas economy is ranked 3rd in the US (which means it supports 47 other states) and is ranked 15th in the world (tied with Russia and just in front of Australia, Korea, Netherlands) If Texas secedes, millions would flood to that state!

I've got a buddy in Montana who wants to secede so Texas may not be alone. Olbermann may end up with no place of his own.

Texas has the #1 economy. Texas is still here. Ron Paul is still here. Keith "The Urinator" Olbermann, is gone. Except for the 30 or so people who watched him on msnbcglbt, nobody was aware of his departure for weeks. The point is that Olberman has no credibility and is completely irrelevant.

Secession is a state's right as much as quitting one's job is a worker's right. It is a shield against federal ineptitude and corruption. The founders understood that the federal government was a collection of states that joined together only to enhance their interests. If you joined a club that began to demand you pay out of your pocket to pay for their reckless spending, you would want to quit too. The states joined willingly, and they can leave at their own will. It is not treason.
