You may just pull the lead and restore it but You won't be able to install "cracked" or non-appstore apps anymore.

This can be done in about a minute and a half. Just buy the digitizer with everything preassembled. take your old one out and pop the new one on. I just did one like 5 mis ago and it was my first time...there is no need to buy the kit he is showing, there is way to much room for error. Also don't be an asshat and use a sharp metal screwdriver...this is how you scratch the dogshit out of your LCD or poke something on the mainboards in the ipod. Dont touch the LCD the oils are very hard to remove.

Use a butter knife if you want to fix it for free. i did it and it worked to remove the screen. Then I used the part u hold to kind of hammer the sides back around the new screen. Thumbs up me if you appreciate my advice. :)

@DnRprodxIL Well technically it is an anti-vandal glass that protects the LCD. But yeah, I meant that glass. I tried removing the digitizer with a sharp plastic object but after it accidentally hit the LCD (I even saw the "waves") I immediately retreated. Luckily the LCD didn't get damaged. I would need more than one of these objects anyways because lifting one side up pressed the other down. I would never use a flathead because it would destroy my ipod. My touch is jailbroken so no warranty.

@mattisproff4 you would have to use a heat gun to melt the glue away and pull the digitizer out from the bezel. This is actually a much harder task.

1.) No, the LCD screen is simply a screen. It is like your computer monitor LCD, no touch screen capabilities. The digitizer is that piece of glass that you touch. The ribbon transmits a current that senses the heat from your fingers to operate the screen.

2.) Only if the screen, or digitizer, is properly attached to the actual ipod via the ribbon. Even if the screen isn't on, it should still work.

Plus I was digging inbetween the glass and the frame instead of the frame and the metal or aluminum (dunno) extirior... This was before I realized the proper way to open an iPod. I was setting out to fix my headphone jack but now I completely have to replace the frame and digitalizer :/ well at least your vid can help when my new screen arrives :D

But the home button sucks cock. There are no ACTUAL and GENUINE and ORIGINAL digitizers and screens on eBay. And if they say it's OEM, it's really not cause I bought exactly the one that is given in the description and they say it's OEM but the button went in and it takes a huge effort to press the home button. On my original cracked screen, the button is so easy to press and it clicks easy. Fuck Fake Screens.
