  • I am not able to set my mobile no. in India -I am using Nokia 6270 -slider -the mobile no. is +919867201030 -Sunder Thadani - my google id is -sunder99online@gmail.com -Can anyone help/guide. tnx

  • it's not free

  • This is why I really love Google.

  • i love google

  • it uses any minutes, the deal here is that where ever you are , people will reach you with 1 phone that will ring everywhere, all phones get linked to the google phone, all listed phone numbers will ring at the same time, people don't have to call house, work, or cell to find you

that is if there is a phone close to you that you have linked then you will get the call.

    hope it helps

  • It works, when you dial it rings on all phones, pick up the call at any ringing phone. love it,,,, 5 star.

  • Can someone please explain to me how placing a call is free? Doesn't it still use your mobile minutes?

  • But what if I don't know the number by heart and u dont have a computer near by D:

  • works good

  • my vid won't load :(

  • what's the benefit if you still end up using your mobile plan minutes? No benefit over Skype then in my opinion

  • @scotchapollo Google Voice is not Voip...it is a call routing service that allows you to provide one number to others which, when called, will ring all of your phones, or specific phones you use at specific hours of the day or day of the week. You may change land line numbers at home or work, or switch cell carriers and not port your number, but the Google Voice number can be retained and assigned to ring your new numbers. It's like having a personal secretary to direct your calls as you direct.

  • @scotchapollo if you have a top caller thing with ulimited calling to one number just call the google number and the redirect you using their minutes to other phones

  • im confused... can i make free calls from my computer? thats all i want to do. without having to use any other phone -___-

  • @GummyMarky then u need skype or google talk and/or another voip client

  • google VoxTonePRO

  • ... or the most convenient one: call the number that you see on a text message from that person. the call will go that person as your google number... or just get an android phone and let it take over your phone completely.

  • well i am coming

  • Hey here is my review on Google Voice.

    webupon(DOT)com/search-engines/google-voice-review/

  • How do you call someone from your Google Voice address book using mobile? Not just entering the numbers...

  • it dowsnot work in india

  • @jattana13 solution: move to US

  • Don't forget it still uses your cell minutes!!!!!!!

  • Don't forgot you can create professional sounding voicemail greetings for this at the voxtonepro website or create on hold mesesages. just google VoxTonePRO

  • Never have used "place a call" feature, but I would if it worked like Skype. Skip the phone, I have a mic right here.

  • i dont undestand how to use it!!!

  • @1983JOPA Type in the #, Google calls connects you like three way dialing, durh

  • So, if we dial from the web, it calls our phone, then connects to the number for us. Does that mean they're all incoming calls? If that's so, that'd be awesome, cause I have free incoming anyway.

  • Correct.

    I need an invite :P

BUT google might try something stupid like setup a premium calling thing where it charges our phone D:<

  • @lawchristopher That's correct

  • i hope they add VoIp in android

  • I need to be able to speed dial from my phone. Can't do that with google voice. well, at least not without using the lame 406 hack. Fix it, google. Fix it.

  • Is it REALLY free? Or does it use a minute?

For example, I have verizon. Right now my plan gives me 450 min. to use a month. If I get a google number, & place all these calls for free, I might as well lower my verizon plan to one that's like 40 min. a month & pay less. HOWEVER, if placing a google voice call thru my phone uses 1 MINUTE of my calls everytime I do it.. I'm sure I would make more than 40 calls in a month, & therefore lowering my phone plan would be pointless.

    Any insight?

  • @IdealistEyes Get a very basic plan with only unlimited calling, its like $25.

  • Did you ever find an answer to your question because otherwise what is the great idea about google voice????

  • @IdealistEyes, it still uses minutes for all the time you talk, since it's not actually VoIP - all the routing is through real phone lines. The big advantage is to have a central number tied to you, rather than to your phone/office/etc, so that you have the freedom to switch carriers with minimal disruption.

  • if you are using your verizon phone, you are using your verizon minutes.

try using a local # landline if at home

  • one more thing,

if you add your google # to your 'friends and family' list [in verizon] - you may receive calls to and from google voice using no minutes

  • Apple does work with Google. Eric Schmidt and another individual that works for Google are on Apple's board. Actually, I think Eric Schmidt may have left the Apple board due to conflicting activities between the two companies.

  • hey guys sorry i dont have this straight still i got a question please try n help me

is google voice free? for home-use.

say someone calls me... will i be charged on my phone bill? or will they be charged?

  • Fuck apple for banning this on the iphone!

  • apple works with google(i think)

  • Nope didn't pass apples goons.

  • haha, but thay should team up, it would get money for both sides

  • can it work for canada?

  • Not yet. The first phase will roll out in the US only.

  • if only we could call from pc, -- does a pre-payed phone work??

  • Yeah they do, I use my Tracfone.

  • @joemm4 but does it still charge you minutes even if its connecting through google?

  • The big question is how to use a bluetooth headset with either Skype or Google Voice. I think it's possible with Skype, but not sure about Google.

  • It is complicated.

Making a simple call takes you go through 4 or 5 steps.

There are so many other VOIPs that let yoy call US for free or for a penny without going through 4 or 5 steps.

  • 1.) Does it save my tmobile minutes? No!

2.) Does it give me free calls to other countries? No!

If it can't do these 2 things it's garbage, it's nothing more than a way to keep me on the google site. Why would I turn the computer on, then go to google, then log in to my email, then look for my contacts, then make a call??

  • If everybody used Skype with WiMax (4G), all calls would be free worldwide and they would include video! Research it.

  • When is it going to be avalible in the uk

  • GV really is fantasitic. I called Craig. That is his real number!!!

  • Lol. what he say?

  • i agree with duckrogers127

  • this ought to be one of the best features google has, think about it ppl, FREE CALLING, and its even FROM YOUR COMPUTER

  • if only u could call from pc.....

  • I have it call my skype number, which i answer from my computer. Under $5 a month. *shrug* just a thought.

  • 2.95 a month ftw

  • Hey, so I'm very interested in what you're saying. I use skype now, but mostly to talk to friends online who are abroad. What would be the technicalities, or basically, how would I go about, getting a mobile phone that can get instant messages and calls from everyone, but doing it as cheap as possibly with skype and google voice combined?

  • I like being able to pick up a call on my cell (though GV forwarding) when I am not near my computer, then transferring it to my unlimited Skypein phone line when I get back to my computer. Should save me lots of precious cell phone minutes!

  • so maybe someone answered this but for android phones there is a program called guava that marries Google voice with gizmo (Skype knockoff) that does exactly that. All I do is dial my contact, it dials my contact and calls me back so quickly you don't even notice the difference. Don't know if it's available on anything but android, but surely somebody's working on it or maybe it's being ported to iPhone at least. (voice texted)

  • @jeasterday- They are, but don't call them Shirley.

  • damn it's available only in US

  • Placing a call dosent seem very convenient to me, i was wondering about that. i cant be expected to remember every single number of my contacts can i, But still Google is Awsome, theyll find a better way soon enough (i hope)

  • Well with a land line... if you pick the same area code as your house number. You shouldn't be charged nothing... then you can make free call's with google voice.

  • I find it interesting and humorous that the people who think university degrees are not relevant and insinuate that they are smarter than you--usually don't have one. My father was the most intelligent person I have ever met (he did not have a degree). He was also humble and patient with those of lesser god. He sacrificed and made it a priority that I get my degree and for that I will always be proud and grateful.

  • how does google voice allow free calls?

    i have google voice.

when i want to call someone from google voice, it calls me first, than calls the person.

as far as i know, i will get charged by my phone company if i pick up a call?

or does google voice do something unique that makes the call free?

  • your phone company will charge u minutes for a cell call... but if its a house phone, u dont get charged long distance for answering a call

  • It's my first time hearing this feature from google. I understand that you can use your house phone to dial a friend or family by dialing your google voice number before you dialing a friends number or family for free?

  • Great, now we can call by dialing TWO numbers instead of ONE! Yay! Oh, wait, only in the US... I knew it was too good to be true. Wait why is this a good idea?

  • Since you're so interested, I'm a full time student, computer sciences. You, apparently, couldn't stop adoring google for long enough to realize that there are things about Voice that aren't SUPER FANTASTICALLY GREAT AWESOME, so go shove your comments where the sun don't shine, fanboy, and leave this to the pros.

Having a google number that people can call is brilliant, but having to dial two numbers to call someone is unnecessarily wasteful, and if you can't see that, no one can help you.

  • You could likely be one of the 75% of the binge drinking college students in america, so stating that you are in college has little value nowadays. I am a college student as well, information technology.

Google voice is a free service providing a phone number, voicemail box, voip, free SMS, and a lot of other features for free. I dont care if you dont use it, but I do agree that calling two numbers is a hassle, and I dont do that, I just use my regular cell plan for making calls on my cell.

  • Heh, that's true about the college thing... I don't know the how high the percentage is around these parts though, Norway is a little different.

Is sms free to non-google numbers? I don't see how they'd be able to fund that when it's a free service...

  • Yes, but if the cellphone plan doesn't support free SMS, the person that you are SMS'ing will get charged for the SMS. I am charged $.05

I tried the call redirection thing recently, my cell still gets charged for the call.

Right now, its only good for VOIP, SMSing other people, voicemail, some other things.

Oh, and the telemarketing industry is causing a ruckus using google voice, hopefully no legal matters arise.

  • I was too quick to flame, its all too easy to assume people are retards on youtube.

you seem like a good guy.

  • I disagree; It's value really is contingent uppon what you use it for. I have t mobile and i dont have an unlimited phone plan like many ppl do. But i can make my google number a "fave five" number meaning that any call to it is free... now any call i use from google voice i am not charged for. No disrespect to you nor your opinion. But in my case, thats why i appreciate Google Voice

  • "Wait why is this a good idea?"

well, for one thing, if your house burns down, or your get foreclosed, lose or change your cell phone and get fired from you job. you still have a number folks can leave messages to you if can access a computer somewhere,

but most of you folks complaining or asking questions are pre-occupied with how it works with cell phones. thats different from my perspective because i really dont use mine that much.

  • OHHH there battrie on phone is low XD OWNED SHE TALKED QUICK SO IT WOULDNT DIE HAHAHAH

  • the future is already here..

  • They should make voice recognition to call contacts from your phone. It's much easier than entering the number.

    Who uses numbers anyway? =D

  • OK if you have a friends and family where you get to specify the google number so its free to call or the TMobile plan you can list in your fav and then make free calls

  • It's seems to use Google Voice, the hassle to set it up far outweights the benefits.

  • I think you have it backwards. To MAKE a call from GoogleVoice, you must have free incoming calls on your service. Because as this video indicates, it calls you, and connects to the callee.

  • @ johnseeley - To MAKE a call from Google Voice, you don't need free incoming calls. However, to MAKE a FREE call using Google Voice, you need a form of "MyFavs" plan.

  • Right now, this services is pretty retarded. What's the point of having to call my phone first? Why not just let me use my PC microphone to make a call?

  • cuz your pc cant walk around the house and is not on u at all times duh

  • so if my girlfriend who doesn't have minutes to talk, makes a google voice account also we can talk for free?

  • you still get your mins deducted cuz you're still using air time, and then when that's up, is it still a free call?

  • I need clarification (I just set my stuff up)

So when I put my real cell number in, and someone calls me using their google voice thing, will my real cell number show up?

    Does AT&T charge for this?

Okay so if someone calls from their real phone via their google voice cell phone number, it can connect to my phone?

  • For the disadvantage listed below.

You can remove the message that is played when someone calls you by adjusting settings on your google voice account.

  • This is not free guys

    Advantages

    1. good for people doesnt have long distance plan at their Land Line.

    2. you will get a free number

    3. you can publish your google number and receive calls on your Cell phone or Land line.

    Disadvantage

    1. each time you a call number from your google Voice it will ring your phone that associated with Google (mine is cell phone) once you pick up the Cell phone you will hear a ringing and it is calling the number u dialed in google Voice.(its usese cellphone mins.)

  • What if you have free incoming calls on your cell plan? Would it not be free to then both receive as well as call in most cases?

  • Every time I try to make a free call from my home phone, my cell phone rings (both are designated to ring when the google number is called). I am not able to place a free call or access my voicemail. This is quite different than what is shown in this video.

  • first press * and then it will ask you for your PIN. once you have entered it, press 2 to place a call

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the info. Google should have made it clear that you press * when calling your own Google # to get to voicemail menu to place a call for landlines. The video only covers mobile phones which don't need to press * when calling your own Google #.

  • can u guys came up with a way to call overseas for free please

  • Google Rebtel, dude. If you follow the directions, it will work perfect for you.

  • i know ..but it is only inside the usa i wanted to call overseas,,thanks anyway

  • Someone clear something up for me.

    ATT to ATT = free

ATT to Google to ATT = charges from att

    Right?

  • no att to google to att is free if its a united states #. because it uses voip which is free

  • I just got an invite. If I call my Google voice # from my phone and then call the person I want to reach(U.S.), I'm still using up minutes right???? Unless my GV # acts like one of those toll free numbers.

  • That is awesome but I don't know most numbers in my phone (I doubt people nowadays remember numbers since cellphones do).

You guys have to create a way to make it possible to call your contacts directly (maybe a program for smartphones).

For regular phones, however, you would need a SIM card kind of thing (which would be awesome).

I WANT MY GOOGLE SIM CARD!!!!

  • Google Voice does have a program for smartphones, currently supporting Blackberries and Android phones.

  • I know. I wrote this before they released it.

  • Also most phones allow you to go into your contacts while in a call... as long as you know who you are calling right away... you dial the number... then press 2 and then dial your friend from your contact list in the phone and program all your contacts with a # to end it.

  • When will they release this?

  • I signed up for an invite in April of 2008 and got mine just a couple of days ago. It's pretty cool.

  • google is too rich thats why they offer so great services for free...they are sooo freaking rich and I dont even have a car rofl

  • that's not true. Google is doing good but doesn't have endless cash like Microsoft. at least google pays very well to its employees.

  • can i use this from europe?

  • Awesome service...and it's completely free! Who wouldn't want free stuff these days.

  • this sounds amazing in so many ways. Does it require monthly fees?

  • nope its free!

  • is it specific for type of service I use on my phone like CDMA or GSM. Which of these can hold best for this. Is there any hidden charges along with this? and, the service is going to start up in India....

  • when we see these voiceservices in europe?

  • I see a very potent software being developed my Google. The point that I, personally see, is that If I was to have a phone service that allows for unlimited min. for select faves/family/circle, I can just select their cheapest plan and fave Google Voice. This way I pay a heck of a lot less than having to fave only a few while still having to run on my minutes for other contacts.

  • This got into the top video section with 7,333 views?

    Google product promotion it seems.

  • Google owns YouTube

  • Hello, Can you answer a quick question for me?

Who gets billed when a caller calls you, is it just the caller or is it both the caller and receiver>?

  • no, but I bet you are. You spelled retarded wrong....retard

  • it's you. google voice is free, but you still need some basic phone service on whatever phone you're using.

  • Google is the current owner of youtube..

  • no more payin for phone bells ? xD

  • I'd love to get into the beta on this.

  • Sounds very good! I live in the Netherlands, though...

  • why is this video unavailable?

  • better still have gizmo suppport, if not 80% of us GC users will we be outa there.

  • Google, I love you! Thank you for making grand central insane! :)

  • One, one question (if anyone from Google see this)....

Are you guys still partnered with Gizmo, and can you still forward calls to them?

  • Awesome! Click2call is still available in some incarnation...hopefully dialers will be able to be modified to work with Google Voice as well! :-)

  • Sounds good!
