  • whats the name of this song

  • how can a human make a computer that is smarter then itself?

  • Comment removed

  • omg we watched this is ICT and Geography

  • Hah. that about a supercomputer in 2013 is BS.

They recently made a supercomputer that couldnt simulate a half mouse brain.

  • we should just destroy all computers before they take over the world, and go back so simple lives like int he 1800's

  • I like the music.

Why you people are looking as if the guy is being negative about it. He's opening our minds to the expectations. Nothing calls for fear. Ultimately, mankind deals with earthly objects & values. So even if he gets overwhelmed [which happens since forever], he'll never be COMPLETELY overwhelmed.

  • you must be a conservative retard you're afraid of change and you don't want progress

you want this country to fail and you want this world to fall

you want everyone to lose their jobs

progress happens like it or not

if you're worried about china, dont be

if go to war with north korea they'd take their side

  • How come there are all these videos with all the same information just edited with different music and graphics?

  • did yu have to use the music from The Last of the Mohicans? I seriously can't pay attention to anything it says b/c i'm thinking about that movie

  • Negativism taught in the US, versus the Positive aspect taught in the rest of the world is a 'no brainer'. Seize the 'opportunity' and you will do just fine with your new marketable skills learned in school through the Hard Sciences. daflikkers.blogspot 'URL' it.

  • It's "You're"

    Backwards retard.

    You fear change. Haha.

    You're like the Ammish

  • I think it's "Amish" dude.

  • does this mean like when there is a computer smarter than the human race... it will be like the matrix..

the humans running away and hiding from their invention, some crazy shit

  • Computers are already smarter than most of the human race.

Like how the human brain can't add a thousand digit long sum without using a machine.

fuck, even calculators are smarter than us.

    Compared to machines, we're stupid.

  • this is the human race in full even if there are smart people doesn't mean there aren't more dumb people.

today a $5 calculator is smarter than us

today a $2 disposable camera is smarter than us (after all we can't paint a perfect picture)

  • The Computers will never over come the human race because someone has to make the machines.

  • machines can make machines.

  • Take a 5 dollar calculator -- Attempt to divide 1 by 0.

Ask digital camera to paint a picture comparable to a Picasso.

Ask a computer to write a symphony that transcends those of Mozart, or a play that transcends those Shakespeare.

And then tell me again computers exceed the human race.

Whilst computers can to outperform the human race in terms of raw computational power, they still lack cognitive thought.

A brilliant man can think outside the box. A computer, as of now, cannot.

  • My Philosophy Professor told us to view this video. I had no idea what it was, but all I have to say is: YIKES! Though, I am not sure what this has to do with philosophy.

  • My english teacher showed our class Shift Happens in school today. Usually I wouldn't pay attention and it would go in one ear and completely out the other. But for some reason, I really paid attention and listened. And the message was heard, very clearly to me. I watched this video when I got home and really it's amazing.

  • we saw this video in my business economics class. i was so intrigued that i decided to watch it again here...the one in class went too fast.

  • The demographics stuff was good, if it's true. The computer capability stuff at the end, less so. As another poster said, we are the ones who invent the computers, they don't dream us up! So they can't be totally smarter than we are. And all this "life's getting faster" alarmism...well, it's grain of salt time.

  • with technology, people are relying more and more on it, which is decreasing the relevance of in-school education. that, in itself, is frightening. also that people looking for a 4-year computer degree are going to be disappointed, because of the reason listed; their classes aren't keeping up with technology. I think a powerpoint slide like this is needed, and should be shown in schools across the country.

  • I think the need for human contact will keep schools around, don't worry about it.

  • so whats the point? you are just going to tell us that we have problems and laugh? if your going to dish out random facts and not do anything about it you can drop the epic music.

  • the really scary thing is that humans aren't keeping up. I deal with the public in my job and most people that come in are total morons with little or no problem solving or reasoning capabilities whatsoever.NOW THAT'S SCARY!

  • scary. i think technology is maoving out of control. it's not even helping us anymore as much as it's destroying our world.

one day, the entire planet will be taken over by computers and asians.. O_o

  • I'm an engineer dealing with the stuff mentioned above. A $5 calculator has already exceeded the computational ability of a human being. A mathmatical software on a standard laptop has exceeded the computational capability of the human race.

However, it will be a very long time before AI can develope the slightest trace of cognitive ability, assuming it is possible. Today, we are no where near that (you can ask em AI research engineers).

  • hmm, yeah..

if the predictions are correct and there will be supercomputers that have greater computation compatibilities than the human race, wouldn't the human race be much much smarter too? The things that technology can do is evolving, but so is the human race..

  • this epic music is awful.. and shift happens is such a bad wordplay

  • y the heck r we making those computers, y do we need them? this is scary. i hope these wont come true, or we are all screwed

  • Intelligence is measured by how fast and how much information you can recall, if you were to build a super-fast computer that had access to all information in the world, then yes it would be smarter then you.

  • A computer can't be smarter or than the thing that created it. Supercomputer smarter than the human race my ass.

  • Wanna bet?

  • (Last post was a response to TaiidanSoldier's comment)

  • Why? Do you happen to have a computer smarter than the human race?

  • Well, it actually depends on the meaning of "smart". Anyways, it is possible for something less complex to make something more complex. Take evolution for an example (if you don't mind). Also, are you saying that it is actually, physically impossible (meaning it breaks laws like gravity and such) for a computer to be smarter than a human?

  • stupid.

  • WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN STUPID

this is chilling, not so much eye opening as i suspected and knew much of this already but this all points to the human race creating things that are already beyond our comprehension. Information is doubling every 2 years and this is all just amazing and scary.

my friend this would only be stupid if you cannot comprehend it, which i believe you cannot

  • Now that's scary. My generation is going to have serious trouble when they enter the workforce for the first time. I doubt I'll be able to keep up with all the new information.

  • absolutely chilling. Just incredible where my generation will be going in the future. I like good old 2007, I'm not sure that it would be as good to have a computer smarter than the capacity of the human brain, let alone the human race. And even if the years aren't quite accurate, anyone who doesn't believe it's coming is just stupid. Technology is simply amazing, it's only a matter of time before computers are smarter than us.

  • if thats true my generation is screwed... royaly screwed

  • That is a great video and yes im sure all of that is true

  • wow

  • Sugoi!

  • rubbish

  • I wonder if it's acctually all true!

  • Fascinating

  • Chilling.

  • Excellent video.

If I could offer you some advice...get you parents to invest 1000 dollars/euro into one of those companies that are developing such technologies you mentioned at the end of your vid. By the time you're 30, that will most likely prove a wise investment.
