@TheBeethovenlove IVE ALWAYS WANTED TO SAY THAT IN MANY KARAJAN VIDEOS (ESPECIALLY WHEN Karajan is more wizened) But i was afraid that people would condemn me, thumb me down, And would tell me not to comapre karajan to bernstein!!!!!
In my opinion, He looks even more like Bernstein when he conducts the 5th symphony with the Vienna phllharmoniker, You can look it up on youtube.

@buba666able hey.. u write music too? keep playing this song over and over an over and over again.. ur mind will be free and ull be inspired to write... thats my tidbit to u my friend.
Karajan obviously was conducting people whom he had worked with years on end, performing works played many times, in venues very familiar to him. His presence was required as a mere formality. And one other thing few people may be aware of. The resonance of the reflected sound often isconflicting to the audience's ear. Some of his hand gestures suggest to me he is controlling resonance until what he hears is acceptable.
@Generalfieldmarshall And all the composers wove their pieces with different forms and styles, thats why Classical Music is so great. It's so passionate, and its the mind of the composer that makes it great. Where as in "pop" music, its very impassionate all sound very similar between artists.

Karajan is one of the greatest conductors ever, and there's no question about it. I personally like Lenny Bernstein as much as him. But have you ever heard Furtwangler & the BPO's recording in 1947 of Beethoven's 5th symphony?

Karajan losing to Toscanini is only your opinion, and I take it that you meant to show your OPINION only, not stating as if it's a fact... Here, I must say that Karajan is the best conductor in my world...
The crucial point is: Who of us has the immense knowledge & outstandig ability to follow & to critisize the "Maestro", although critiscism must be allowed?! Don't see a satisfying solution for this difficult question!

This is pretty great, but listen to Karajan conduct this with the Vienna Philharmonic on his complete recording from 1960; that has my vote as one of the most exciting FLEDERMAUS Overtures ever, all captured in magnificent, unequaled stereo sound!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This piece would be good if it was played by mutant chimpanzees! FLEDERMAUS! Stop being mean to the conductor guys, it is great music! But has the principal oboe got such a messed up embouchure?
The is the vienna phil and they use Akademiemodel oboe. The reed is different from the standard conservatory oboe, so I would imagine that the embrochure is different as well.
KARAJAN one of the best directors of all times. fortunately we can still enjoy his work thanks to his numerous recordings. so now you can put a thumbs down, because you can better direct an orchestra. or maybe not because you're sitting with your dumb ass in front of a computer watching free videos of hard working and talented musicians and then have the nerve criticising them

in contrary to what many people have commented, i find his conducted to be somewhat emotionless and without expression. oftentimes he himself loses tempo.
this is done very beautifully. My high school is playing this for our concert and ever since, I have loved this song. I just wish the beginning and the waltz-y part were a bit faster.
hey i have a quick question. I am just starting to get into classical music and so far Die Fledermaus is my favorite song. do have any favorites besides this one? Since you seem to know alot about classical music.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well it's great that you appreciate the genius of Karajan's version of the overture. Well I have many many favorites. And I'm glad someone is getting into classical music, so I would recommend for you....try Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty ballet music. Particularly the Waltz. But try out everything and do your research like I have hehe!
Check my favorite videos, i have all my classical favorites in there so you dont even have to search for them, i really like classical piano, so youll see a lot of those on there.
For a beginner I suggest the Magic Flute overture, Mozart's piano concertos, esp. Coronation and nr. 23; Mozart's symphonies nr. 39 & 40; Beethoven's symphony nr. 6 (there's an excellent version with Karajan, uninterrupted). Beethoven's piano sonatas, esp. Apassionata, Moonlight, Pathetic, Waldstein; Beeth. violin concerto. If you enjoy singing, try Schubert's wonderful lieder (more serious), or the Vienna Boys' Choir with many light melodies. Be welcome and enjoy!
if i was you i would listen to peer gynt he was an awesome composer who lived from 1843 till 1907... you HAVE to listen to morning mood and in the hall of the mountain king.
also strauss is a good composer try the song "an der schönen blauen donau"

Umm..... Okay.... First of all it is not Morning Mood... Second of all Peer Gynt is not a composer. Edward Grieg wrote the Peer Gynt Suite.
How can people dislike this! COMEON, it's the Vienna Phil with one of the best conductors that the world has ever seen!

If you like this you will love the whole thing! Some people like it best as a Chritmas
treat. A shame to wait if you can see it sooner.
I saw all but one performances of a one week production in Birmingham (UK)in 1976 or 77 and fell in love with it!
Amateur companies can do it well but for perfection I find professional companies fit the bill. Best wishes.
