As a Retired, Coast Guard HH3F Dual Qualified Aircrewman, we would do the same maneuver on the H3's. It's called a "Cyclic Climb." Usually followed by a yaw pedal kick (turn). You "Tupper Puppy" Drivers need to be careful!
Wow scary, I don't understand all the mechanics behind what happened because i'm a rescue swimmer, but i do know the hydraulics can cavitate getting air into the lines and locking up the servos and thus the controlls. this would be freaky.
Actually, it was exactly like Trooper said, a control lockup. The flagpole was actually to the left of their flight path, it just isn't clearly shown by the video. They had flown the route earlier that day and new where it was. The old H-65s had small b ore servo's which was a known problem. It's been corrected since then. As usual, watch actually happended is commented on by the ignorant.
It's as Trooper says, I've seen the video numerous times as a former flight mechanic for 11 years on the HH-65. The story goes this takes place at the CG Boot Camp in Cape May. The 65's would frequently "buzz" the parade field during graduation ceremonies. The video is spectator footage. A common maneuver that has since been banned on the airframe is to come in low and fast and pull back on the cyclic. Too much force causes the hydraulic system to cavitate thus locking the flight controls.
was not retreating blade stall! fuselage would have rolled instantly about axis on stalling side. not enough foward speed for that. excellent recovery no matter what caused the nose to pitch up.

hell not a servo jam, the pilot saw at last moment a mast this is why he pulled up so violently, i think he blew the g's limit this heli can afford.

Hydraulic lock up was the cause, not a power line. I know this because I work on these helos and this is a training tool for us of what not to do.

or he didnt want to hit the power lines! awsome

Retreating blade stall, or hydraulic control lock up ?? either way bet the pilot was cracking nuts after that one good save.
