I love it how they don´t understand each other, but their dialog synchronizes together. colin is a master of romance. thanks sooo much for posting it.
@ladygisborne20 I can imagine myself doing the exact same thing as colin's character. lots of awkward moments. Then again I'm british, I suppose it's bred into us.
I can watch this over and over again. Perfectly executed! I love Jamie and Aurelia! I've always loved Colin Firth, he is one of my faves in the romcom genre x
im sooo in love with colin...sigh...i wish we were married. it's his messy curly hair, sad serious eyes, adorable nose, gorgeous smile, accent, classiness, charisma.... <333
Could anyone please tell me what ''arvarez'' means in 3:26? I've googled the word, searched on every website tha came out and still have no clue.I need this for a subtitling workshop. thank you. :-)
@MAEVA81 Actually I think he said "alberi" which is "trees" in Italian (I'm Italian) XD He spoke Italian at 2:43 as well ("buongiorno") and at 3:18 ("bello" ecc XD) .He's married with an Italian producer and director, so he's fluent in the language.
The first time I saw this film, I only caught the 2nd half and I thought it the most appalling, codescending, politically correct, smug, yet 'us and them' rubbish I'd ever seen. But last night I watched the first half and I have to say this Aurelia / Colin Firth element made it a bit better than before. I enjoyed this dynamic... still the worst film I've ever seen though. By a Swedish mile. Richard Curtis has fallen a long way from Blackadder.
"Its my favourite time of the day, driving you" "It's the saddest part of my day, leaving you" ='( ♥♥♥ Their story is definitely the best of the movie =) Thanks for putting it together and posting it =)
I simply cannot watch this without crying anymore. I loved this before, but now it means all the more. I am portuguese, and my boyfriend is english, so seeing these two in this film has a very special meaning. Thank you very much for posting, and I must say, well said. "Love as a second language". **
@bubololo Bless you for gathering the Colin Firth parts in one delicious package! I liked the sound of his role in this movie, but didn't want to wade through the other stories just now, but these ten minutes have made my day! Especially since my husband and I are from different countries too.
@hwuoahc I feel those two characters more than any other character in this movie. My boyfriend is portuguese and I am half russian-half greek, living in Greece..making miles and miles for a year and a half now...I also cry my ass out every time I see this movie!!Thanks for sharing this post...It's cool to know I am not alone!!!
Also,a huge thank to the person who uploaded the video!!!
Even though it seems strange - sorry about that-, the 2nd part of my text is actually where it begins, then comes the part under it and finally the one on top is where it ends lol.
I can listen to my own language being spoken out loud in such a successful, pleasant, funny and very British film. For once someone remembered there's not just France, Italy and Spain on this side of Europe. I'd also like to highlight Colin's
remarkable effort to learn and speak Portuguese (from Portugal), especially being the famous actor he is. And he did it quite well, too! Once again he has shown he's definitely one of the best British actors, if not the best right now.(the end lol)
Thanks for the video, as you managed to gather most of my favourite parts of the film, for obvious reasons. Both Colin Firth and 'our' Lúcia Moniz played their roles really well and I find it a very proper film to be broadcasted both in England and in Portugal - as it was - close to a Xmas Eve. Despite the arguably 'not so good' general idea it might give about my country - Lúcia Moniz's poor knowledge in terms of foreign languages (Portuguese people are among the best when it comes
to master a foreign language, in my opinion - even though I must be considered a suspect to say this :p), that disturbing scene where Aurélia's father kisses Colin (come here, find a father who does that and I'll give you a candy lol) and the dirty place the directors chose to represent Portugal (I think that's actually Marseille because that French city's airport was the one they showed), among some other details - I find it great and it makes me proud whenever I watch the film, as for once
I saw this movie without the portuguese subtitles, so seeing this now is hilariously cute.

@subtitler22 Sorry fo my english but I'm half portuguese and half french :)
I think he said "arbres" which is a french word to "trees" or "arvores" which is the portuguese translation
As he tried to speak portuguese with her and didn't really know this language, he "mixed" french and portuguese :p
so the word he wanted to say is "arvores" ( because they saw trees on the road)
