after seeing those all terrains in the snow, i know for sure I will not be buying them now. That is terrible. they are such a good looking tire, but perform so horribly in anything other than rocks, gravel roads and dry pavement
@dynomax666 That's really weird. No offense intended but are you joking? Everywhere on my channel I say how much I love my BFGs... Read my video descriptions.
@dynomax666 1. I run out of power before I run out of traction unless my RPM is 4500 and over.
2. These are better in deep snow than on other icy ROAD conditions, I have AWD so I don't feel it but a lot of my buddies who have RWD / 4X4's have lost control on the hwy because the rubber is harder than winter tires and they don't have the luxiury of having something turning the front wheels on for them like my CRV.
i got Oonee tooo Still trying to findd A liftt kit !!! :( 2 inch ...)) i run my crv with 235/70/15 on 15x8 -12 offset with toyo opencrountry a/t real good but need a lift kit

I personally would rock some Yokohama Geolander M/T+ tires or the BFGoodrich Krawler or Mud-Terrain's. Basically anything with a more aggressive tread for shitty weather. But that's my personal taste for bad weather.
@bastec666 I don't know where your from but those tires are no good in Canada. I wanted to go for the BF Mud-Terrains but after reading many reviews I found out that they have harder rubber and therefore suck in the snow. I like the BF A/T's, I can run them at low tire pressure and use them all year long. I honestly believe that when it comes to forward/backward traction in deep snow even the Blizzaks would have a hard time beating the A/T's but to each his own eh? PS: check my new videos =D
@JoeIsOut2lunch well, here in the US of LAME, I don't get much snow in my state, when we do get a good storm, its always fun. But personally, the Yokohama have a super aggressive tread and I've seen them work quite well (when we had 4 ft of snow :P)
@DanEdwardsMusic Exactly. My CRV still gets 23-25 mpg with 189,000 on it. I want a Jeep, too. But I am almost done with a 9,000 mile road trip with some mild trails, alongside a friend with a Wrangler. I know that each of these has its pros and cons. The Wrangler is obviously more capable off-road. But the CRV is faster, quieter, smoother, much better heater, cheaper to run, and I was still able to traverse some pretty crazy terrain. It's not a joke.
@chadking Hey, I just read your comment. I must have missed it somehow when you posted a little while back. I think you have hit the nail on the head... I too want a Jeep Rubicon... but I don't see the value.
I have two requirements for my next vehicle and both the Jeep and CRV don't meet them:
1. I want to go off-roading with little concern of repair costs
2. I want to tow what I hope to be my new boat (24ft Pontoon Boat).
I think I'm going for a used Tundra & $ave for lock diff
@JoeIsOut2lunch Yeah, good call. You have to find something that fits your needs. My road trip ended up being awesome, and both my and my friend's vehicles made it from Colorado, to Indiana, New Mexico, San Fran, up to some trails on Mt. Saint Helens, then all the way down the coast to San Diego and back. Good times.
Guess this guy was trying to make ruts in his front yard...
And Joel, before you get the snorkel i would look into getting LSD, or a locking differential in your CRV, or the snorkel wont help much.. Just a thought..
this 1st generation CRV had problem with AWD system, back wheels doesn't turn all the time when the front wheel losses traction... 2nd generation is much better on that point..
it already comes with a waterproof intake system....just don't submerge it. You shouldn't really be taking an aluminum engine into cold water past the head, it can crack it.
The coil spring spacer does just enough to fit the tires... I can hit the Canadian speed bumps (the longer ones, 24inch X 5inch) at speed and not rub.
I do hope to eventually have some custom made at a machine shop as the aftermarket coil springs are no longer sold.
I originally had 1.5inch wheel spacers and those cause the wheels to stick out which looked cool...but wasn't good for off-roading as it rubbed when I hit bigger bumps and ruts. After removing them all rubbing stopped.
1. Still 4 cylinder (I don't see this as a long term project car, I hope to one day have a Tundra in the driveway and a Suzuki Samurai project in my garage. This is a best of both worlds vehicle. Cheap Mods + Honda Reliability + good fuel economy = This outdoorsman's daily driver)
2. Would need to compare to a stock CRV. Calculate 1.5inch spacer + going from 195's to 215's
I saw a very good 4wd/AWD car before. Cant remember if it was a Toyota,Suzuki or a Honda. But it was strong and fast on the higher RPMs in the snow ! =D
And in the sand it's a good vehicule too. I have one and here in Mexico in Yucatan i have did some expedition to the beach. Some limitation because you don't have a diferencial look opcion but if you give it some lift and change tire, you make a good suv for off roading.
ive got a 2001 Honda CRV SE they lack power even after the facelift/modification 20 more hp wud make it perfect but i love how fuel efficient they are i learned the hard way that they are limited to 170 kph =/
im considering the new acura rdx 4 cylinder as well but packs alot more power and has a better 4wd system ill be honest the crv's 4wd system is pretty shit but it gets the job done and saves u a ton of fuel so w.e good car for ppl that are on a budget ^^
I had the choice of getting a new set of winter tires (by law we need to put winter tires that have more grip and are made of much softer rubber) OR we can go for All Terrain Tires.
Instead of getting two sets of tires one for summer and one for winter I got BF Goodrich A/T 215. 215 is two sizes bigger than what my CRV had previously. Hence the lift.
I now have a capable off road vehicle that suits my ice and regular fishing needs. Never needed to be towed or pushed yet.
To any haters out there... I unlike you, use logic and aim for functionality... and seriously why the hate?
I am from the north (Canada) and go fishing very often. I have a 12ft aluminum boat that I put on roof racks to go to remote fishing spots on logging roads that can be quite rugged sometimes.
In the winter I go ice fishing, and if you've ever pushed a truck for 2 miles to get to an ice shack you would know. It's not fun.
oh okay,bcause i got the 1998 model,4 cylinders in-line and stuff
2 liters 1973 cc,but it's the 128 HP DIN (=94 kW) and i juste love the sound of your CR-V,so i was just wandering if it was a "modified" engine,or just the V-tech,i got just a normal petrol engine sound :( so is it "only" the 18 extra HP you have that makes the sound difference ?
Nice to hear. All I had to offer for his help was to let him drive my CRV... in his front yard!
PS: He wasn't used the clutch and he was TRYING TO GET STUCK.
PSS: I took it for a drive in "real" deep snow twice since then and it hasn't let me down... just gotta keep the revs up... it's a small engine for the size of the tires and gear ratio. Overall, it's still a great snow vehicle. I look forward to ice fishing later this winter.
This video is actually part 2 since part 1 looked too easy as the vid info states... "My friend is purposely trying to get stuck. Looks like fun. Can't wait for the first "real" snow storm."

I wonder how the xfer case will hold up to those tires. Should be interesting.
I ran 235/75R15's on back of my '85 Trans Am in the winter, no lift, tho. ;)
When I replaced them I went down to 215's or 195's (I don't remember) as the car was doggy as hell with 235's on it.

Please read the Video Description is has all the mods and where to find them.
Short answer... Coil Spring Spacers (aka: leveling kit) + bigger tires
JoeIsOut2lunch 1 year ago
How much cost to lift your CR-V? I am interested to do this here in Mexico, Yucatan for mine.
Thank you to answer.
