  • what type of pointes are those?

  • you should never bounce during stretches. i know you're technically not bouncing but you're doing the same effect to your calf muscles. you're ng to seriously strain or even tear your calf muscles stopping halfway between contraction and retraction. you should always completely contract or retract your muscles.

  • well by the looks of your other videos... you obviously don't ever do this exercise or it doesn't work.

  • is doing pointe ballet hard? I mean, is it hard with shoes? ( i can easily do it without shoes...never tried it with shoes though..)

  • i've been a pointe dancer 4 a few years now and to me it comes pretty easily.

mainly, depends on the strength of ur foot and how much ur going to commit to working out ur shoes. u also hav to get the shoe that ur comfortable with and that takes u a few months to break in b/c if u hav a shoe that is too hard, it'll take forever to break in and if its too soft u'll kill it, if i make any sense

if ur thinking bout starting pointe go to one of the retailers like Capezio to get fitted

  • NEVER do it without shoes. NEVER EVER. it will ruin your toes and feet and the structure of your bones in your ankles. The shoes help because there is support. It hurts, but at least there is support. Are you allowed to be on pointe? If you are not, do not attempt to do so. If you are, you should know better.

  • oh...oops....

  • ooh that isnt good .

you can really hurt your back.

to get on pointe takes years of practice

  • I don't even do pointe, bu ti have pointe shoes, and they are really easy to stand on, pretty much because its a box, so yeah.....

  • hey guys, do any of you have any tips on extending the life of your pointe shoes? ive only had my bloch supriams for 2 months and i think they are dying, check out my videos to see if they are and if they are could you please tell me! thanks

  • You make it seem like NOTHING! That's awesome! Very beautiful! I'm thinking about starting ballet. It seems so fun, although painful! :)

  • Very nice! L.O.V.E your kneehighs, er or, socks, well, whichever they might be cute cute cute Cute! are those Gaynor Miden pointes?

    --Thanks!

  • i agree with writer13426

shes probably better than all of you.

shes not perfect but who is?

    shut up

  • and you guys,

(sorry i haven't read all these comments earlier but...)

I very much appreciate your comments, and I'm very happy I could help you guys. But leaving very nasty comments is not so much appreciated. If this video helps many people, and maybe not you, that's perfectly fine! don't watch it, and don't try these exercises but people be civil. thank you for the support :]

  • How long have you been on pointe?? your shoes look don't look broken in at all. my shoes look like that when i put them on the store. you should really try to work on your hamstrings and quadriceps. it looked like you have a hard time fully straightening your legs.

  • also, you went to 2 extremes; at parts you were overly turned out(yet at others you barely were at all, you were nearly parallel)with your knee over the floor not even your big toes. if you continue to turn out like that, youre screwing your knees. save advice giving for the professionals like Lisa Howell. you sound/look like you dont know what the fuck youre saying/doing.

  • I tried a different brand of shoes that were NOT right for my feet, but you gotta try different things to get the right shoe! in other shoes I have a ridiculously large arch and its hard to get strong enough shoes to support it, which is why I tried these. bad idea though. oh well!

  • i agree

  • fuck you. you know, she tries her best and screw you if you think she is like a FOUR YEAR OLD. C'Mon. A FOUR YEAR OLD. SHe's better than you, you i know fatties like you who sit around bullying people in cyberspace have NO life other than to do what you just did. NOT. NICE.

  • Love the socks...by the way...if u start ballet at 12 years old, how long does it take to get to pointe?

  • lol

    "im here with...something"

  • How long have you been on pointe (just wondering.) Umm... it looked like you didn't really break your shoes in yet and i think that that box is just a little too pro. I have been on point for 7 years now and i started of with a wider box the brand on shoe was Bloch...(not very good not buy it.) Ummm. make sure that you work on some ankle and thigh strengthening exercises because i saw you wobbling a little bit and i don't want u to hurt yourself. Hope i gave you some good advice.

  • Over 7 years huh...? I'd say try posting your own videos before critiquing others on this site. At least she's sharing, prove yourself and show her before judging her... unless your old, and a teacher. She does freakin' awesome in the shoes she has, on the block she uses. If she's comfortable, she's comfortable, maybe ya have a point on the muscles, but again, you have no footage to judge.
  • oh so thats how u do it... i dont hav 2 do that as much as th girls in my dance class do

theres only 3guys in my ballet school thingy lol

  • that really helped!!

    I have a question :S

when i roll therw my pointes it feels like im sinking into them and my teacher broken them for me and they dont look dead :S I dont know what to do!! :S

  • I'm glad I could help! as for your question, the problem may be not only that your teacher broke them for you (which she shouldn't have) and you didn't develope in them yourself making you not used to the feeling, but also that you're not pulling up enough. don't put weight into the shoe :]

  • Go to a place where they fit pointe shoes and ask for the best pointe shoe fitter they have. They should be able to tell what the issue is. I had to change from Principles to Blochs because I have a high arch and Principles didn't support my arch well. Blochs are OK, but I am going to move on to plastic Gaynor Mindens.

  • no idea wgat youre doing, dont try to teach when youre novice.

  • Another loser with no videos of their own.

skeetske, ya might wanna drown yerself. ;)

  • those socks really drive me mad XD

  • hehe sowwy it's my thing :P I just needed to use them a few times cuz they're just like tights but funky and awesome and my style hehe

  • are your shoes broken in or not? they looked really flat...might be new i dunno but try and break them a bit more and youll loko really good :)

  • they're brand new and just ruberized so doing this will break them in (I now am onto a new pair of shoes of course since this) but they were broken in after about 5 minutes :P thanks so much for your comment!

  • lol thought so. i looked at your other videos after and noticed the pointes in them were alot more broken. btw you have a nice arch keep it up :D

  • aw thanks so much! :D

  • whats with the sock? is it a ballet thing or just your thing? i need to know! haha im starting ballet thursday (tomorrow) at my dance studio and i have been on youtube looking for videos of anything ballet related to familiarize myself with the fancy french terms...btw im 12 almost 13

  • How'd ballet go? I'm going to start and I was just curious. ^^

  • wonderfully, i love my new teacher!

her name is cindy and shes so nice and professional. its been rly fun

  • her socks really are NO ballet thing. XD I've never seen anything like that before.

  • the socks are just sorta my thing I'd never actually perform with them! hehe and congrats on entering the world of ballet ]

  • thank you im rly having fun...and i also need some of those socks...teehee

  • wait, is it okay if you're holding onto something?

  • oh yes, you should start out by holding onto something :] but the point is NOT to push yourself up with your arms but to use your center and calf muscles!

  • aw... no im not even on pointe yet!:P

im just trying to build up strength so i CAN go on pointe! :]

  • yeah you suck. you have no right trying to help OTHERS dance. learn to dance yourself.

  • ummm...who are you talking to? because it sure as hell ain't me...

  • um actually...yupitzmee is talking to you idiot..

and im not even on pointe yet and i can tell you you're horrible

you twist when you come down off youre pointe and i can tell your hips arent under your body

    s0o0o...

  • :D love ya too babe!

annnnnd you're dumb because you're horribly mistaken and cold-hearted ;]

  • are you a crazy lady or something? shes talking to you and no one else. ur not helping me with these videos at all. i can do waaay more better then you can. 1/5 stars.

  • Dominique6525 - This is why people with no videos of their own should not be able to comment or rate videos. Jealousy sucks and people use it in stupid ways, such as yourself. Notice all the thumbs down, they are from friends and subscribers of this fine pointe dancer and it shows that she is liked... you, you are not because you are just a waste of space here at YouTube and need to get a life and/or stay on MySpace.

Your comment also makes little sence,

stay in school, ...or go back. ;)

  • yea lets see you do that you cant criticize someont about something you yourself cant do

  • actually i DO pointe.. and i've only been on for a long ttime... and i know when someone is good or not. i've been dancing for 17 years. you guys have no idea what you're doing.

  • i agree... this girl should NOT be giving out advice when she can't even dance herself. anyone with half a brain can tell that she has no idea how to properly go up on pointe. you're not pulling up at all!

  • Could these be done in soft ballet shoes? Not going unto pinte of course, but just into relelve?

  • yes of course :] instead of working on rolling up through onto your pointe shoe boxes it works more of the turnout and calf muscles!

    you are all welcome!

  • fool...she'd asking if you can go on poine in ballet flats....and no..you cant...you can only go onto a demi pointe, which is like standing on your toes.

  • thats exactly what we do in my dance class

    :D

    thanks though

  • That helps so much! Great video, except it kind of looks (to me) Like you're not getting all the way over your box. Probably just me though! Thanks!

  • what brand are your pointe shoes?

  • really good please change the socks there really distracting

  • zou go through ur dad´s closet!?

p.s. nice dancin..gonna try that out right now^^

  • she is ho;ding onto a bar

  • actually I'm not

thanks you guys for your nice comments! and you're welcome for the video

  • easy on sweet cheeks, nice legs though.

  • what does that mean? and thanks...

  • it means calm down honey and you have nice legs

  • I don't think I've ever seen anyone so steady on pointe.

  • Hi, good job! Thanks for the tips. What do you think about my pointe work? Please comment. Thank you in advance, Poesjemauwballerina

  • Thank you for the video!

I noticed that a lot of youtube dancers can't role through either.

Not only will this help with rolling but also strength

    Once again thank you :)

  • Baby! Break in the arch of your shoes! Lovely anyways.

  • these shoes were new as well. you gotta give me time to break em in! hehe I break them in naturally (just by dancing in them) and if I just get them I'm going to need to dance on them for atleast a day to really get them nice arches. when I make vids, a lot of the time it's for my new shoes. I do break in shoes in like an hour though haha thanks for your comment!

  • Thnx! =)

  • Thats a good exercise, you do it really well!

I was wondering if you could possibly watch my vids and give me criticism/compliments/advice/tips on my Pointework, and maybe subscribe an watch my progress. I have been en pointe once a week for about 2-3 months, I do about 10 mins a week as I am new to it, and my teacher says we will do longer as we improve. Thankyooh x

  • I would love you help you out by watching and commenting your videos. thank you for commenting on mine :) 10 minutes though? I did an hour when I first started, it gets you used to the pain so you don't feel it anymore. now after that I walk and dance in my pointe shoes as if they're my ballet slippers. If that is how your dance school does it then I won't critisize of course, because they probably know what they're talking about ;) keep commenting! I'll do the same <3

  • Thankyou, and I will! We'll have alot of fun, and I'll learn alot from someone doing it much longer than me...well, when I first first started we did 10 minutes, and my teacher says that we gradually build it up, so after about 2 weeks we did 20 minutes, then 30, and after the christmas hols we are doing 45 minutes I think.

  • Same here, I am not criticising you dance school, all schools will most certainly have a different scheme of things, but my teacher said it is good to gradually build time up instead of plunging us straight in there...maybe to build up my strength? Anyway, do you have any tips on breaking in my pointe shoes? they are so incredibly stiff ! !

  • building up in time is another method of building up strength. :) to break in pointe shoes if you are new to it can be difficult. on the bottom of your shoe should be a letter (symbolizes the shoe style) or the shoe size, which would be a number, any of those things.

  • put your two thumbs to to each other on that symbol. Put the box of the shoe on the floor (shank side down) and massage it. the reason you do it by that symbol is so you get a rounded arch in the shoe, and the heel of the shoe stays sturdy to support your arch.

  • when you get to my level you don't have to break shoes in like this at all, I just dance in them and they break in, in one class :P I hope this helps! but also just dance in them naturally! It's only natural for them to be stiff in the beginning.

  • Here's an idea...Do a little ballet dancing: BAREFOOT!

  • omg, one class we had to go from full to demi point like that 32 times

    twas murder D:

    good exercise though :D

  • I'm excited, I get to move on to pointe next year!

I've been in barre ballet for six years, and I'm ready to move on! -hopefully-

    I'm tired of barre already..

But thank you for showing me that, I'll be sure to remember it!

  • Okay, thankuu:D

  • Omg. Doesn't that hurt, when your on your full toes? How long do you have to train dancing before you can start on those shoes (We call it 'spitzen' but I don't know the word in English) And I really adore your socks:P

(I hope my English is good enough)

  • your english is great don't worry ;) We call them pointe shoes down here. Different dance schools train different amount of years before you can go on your toes. My dance school, and a lot of other dance schools say you have to be atleast 11 years old, but there are exceptions. If you just start dancing when you're 11, you can not do pointe because you are not properly trained, so the teacher will tell you when you are ready :) I hope you understand what I was trying to explain :P

  • thanks for your comments! they are I beleive my suprimas (as you can see I don't wear them anymore ;) ) and yes they were new in this vid so you'll have to bare with me not having a full arch <3 I wear grishko 2007 now

  • good vid!!!

  • hey nice shoes! are they new lol :)

  • Thanks for posting! I'm trying to improve my releves on one foot, so I'm going to try this. You make it look so easy! :) BTW, what kind of shoes are those? They kind of look like Gaynors, but I couldn't tell.

  • you guys are very welcome :)<3

  • beautiful!

  • I liked your tip. It's very nice of you to explain it in full detail for those who were interested in improving their technique.

  • good, but umm at 00:56 ur knees arent over ur toes, thats not good, and u say to do a deep pile but do u mean demi or grande casue ur pile isnt very deep

  • thank you for that note, it was just a little mistake. You take the deep plie when you start off on each side. But my point is when you plie, don't make it skimpy...you must take a full plie, wheather it be demi or grande. :) thanks

  • nice socks, they mesh with your shoes real nice ; P

  • Are you supposed to do this with barre or balance by your self?

  • you are supposed to do it on a barre. but I would think that if you do it a lot, and want to practice with your ballance as well, then you can do it off of the barre. but everyone should start on it :)

  • Thanks! :) I had never heard of this exercize... ^.^;;

  • ur soooo cute!

  • you have a really strong ankle!!! nice job!!!!!

  • Your shoes really aren't broken in.

  • ok you guys what ever you say, since you've seen my shoes in person, and have been wearing them. thanks for letting me know something I didn't know even though I've even broken them in myself ;)

I made this video to help people out and all you guys care about it proving me wrong about my shoes? that's just wrong

  • I'm not trying to prove you wrong, I'm just warning you. Dancing en pointe with stiff shoes can cause damage and much more discomfort than is necessary. I was only trying to help you, the same as you trying to help me with rolling through my feet.

  • you could have said it just as you did now...it was just rude the way you told me. and dancing with stiff shoes breaks them in anywhere. I don't even care I'm just trying to help others so forget it

and thank you cherries2harleyz I appreciate that :)

  • dancing with stiff shoes does not break them in anywhere, it teaches your feet to do it wrong.

  • that is absolutely wrong. it strengthens your feet...I'm not about to argue with you though so just forget it

  • hah!! whatever hun.

  • your shoes arent broken in

  • r those shoes new???

  • nope they were actually kind of old, but the angle that you see me at does not show the arch of the shoe well, so for those who think they're not broken in, they actually fit beautifully on my foot :) no worries, I actually jut got new shoes!

and I'm so happy I've been helping you guys! you're very welcome!

  • thanks so much for this video!!

  • you need to break in ur shoes more

  • thanx for the advise its really great :)

  • Thanks so much for this video dear!

  • nice socks! very nice roll too!

  • thanks! this really helpful! just be careful of your knees,

  • I'm so happy I could help everyone! and don't wory Liria, this will help your arches ;D and also-there's nothing wrong with my knees I'm supposed to be turned out like that, I'm stretched enough, you're supposed to do this exactly like I am.

  • Hi there,

    Thank you for this video:)

Your arches are much much better than mine!

  • fantastic!!!this helped me so much!!! <333 ty ty ty!

  • great exercise my calves hurt just watching it haha but really, great strength. kudos to you and nice position over your boxes

  • wow. thank you sooooooo much!! This DOES really help!!

    <333333333ADy

  • very helpful! i just wanted to say, be sure to not force your turnout. it could seriously damage your knees if you don't be super careful =[

    awsome video!

    g

  • I'm so happy that I could help some of you guys! and thank you for your very nice comments :) and also, you don't have to worry about forced turnout, there's a difference between forced and controlled! so I'm okay don't worry! but that is a good note to keep in mind during this exercise for all of you! :D <333

  • 0:56 - knee is not over toe = forced turn out.

    hg

  • you are all so welcome! I'm so satisfied that you're all satisfied with the result of this exercise! :D

rememberxxremember-I see what you mean thanx it was a mistake but once I plied I fixed it, it's not a big deal because I do not overturnout...exept for that very exact second <33 keep practicing and good luck to everyone!

  • =]

    g

  • wow thanks for that..i'll try that next time i practice =]

  • thank you so much for this video, im going to try that later on :D

  • omggg you are soo goood..check out my vids ;)

  • Hey, this is a cool vid on rolling thru your feet. Not really a problem I have but its great for people who do need to work on it so - Thanks! You also do look really strong, nice work!

  • you are sooo strong!

  • amazing

  • Many thanks for recording this video!
