There is nothing wrong with owning an ak because they're really not much different from other rifles. Really the only difference between an ak and an ar-10 (which shoots a .308, a tad bit more powerful than ak) is the way it looks. The reason most people are scared of them is because of how they are portrayed in movies and the liberal media. They arent scary at all.

No. The 2nd amendment states that because the government needs a militia (military force) to maintain the nation, the rights of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. It's purpose is to ensure the people are protected from the government. The term "militia" is almost universally misused today. By definition a militia is a group of trained citizens not in the regular army. The National Guard is a example of a true militia.

From an outsider perspective, the US does have a gun crime problem, and to use the arguement that you need guns for protection is circular, it essentially turns into a mini arms race. Fourth, as rightsideofhistory said, the founding fathers were men, flawed, and had no knowledge of the kinds of weapons we would have available today. They had black powder muskets that were not accurate and took at least a minute to reload after one shot, yet today we have weapons that you can walk into a store and kill at least 8 people without needing to stop to reload. This is not what they had in mind when they instituted the second amendment.

@rightsideofhistory - You don't think a foreign country would ever storm the US? Don't be surprised if, within your lifetime, the Chinese army ends up doing this. They own us, and they're getting uppity. And the 2nd Amendment isn't just about protecting us from invaders, it is about protecting US citizens from their OWN government. It is to protect us from a dictator. Any society that gives up its' right to defend itself, is guaranteeing a power-crazed government.

The Chinese does not own us for one. Secondly, the debt we owe to them is good for them.  They wouldn't attack us if we owed them. In fact, history shows that when a country is in debt to another country, the country with debt is either protected or not attacked by the one it owes money to. Take France not taking any serious military action in Iraq for example. They owed France some big bucks.

Third, China needs us just like we need them. They are a producer, we are consumers
