  • It's funny to listen to Pope Benedict XVI talking in his native language!!!

  • the emperor's saying "Lord Vader" in English accent.

  • The german voice-over is very good. Heinz Petruo sounds just like James Earl Jones!

    I'M IMPRESSED!!!

  • Heil dem Galaktischen Imperator, Herrschen des bekannten Alls!

  • By the way why does Ian's voice sound different in the original thilogy and the prequels?

  • @flexan4o He's supposed to be 20 years older in the Original trilogy, that's 20 years of decay.

  • @Soundwave3591 Yeah but the voice couldn't have changed so much even after all this time. I'm pretty sure that the voice of the original emperor from the 80s is altered.

  • @flexan4o recall that this movie was made 20 years BEFORE the prequels. Sir Ian MacDairmid had no idea what young Palpatine would have sounded like.

if you want to make it a continuity issue, recall how badly the Sith lightning messed him up in Ep. 3. Sith powers degrade your body, which is why he was trying to find a way to prolong his life. so actually, yes, the 20 years would have degraded his vocal chords badly.

  • I think Ian sounds more cunning

  • The emperor sounds crustier and more evil in german for sure. Ha ha. Everything sounds kewl in German. <3

  • DARTH VADER: SEIG HEIL

  • SEIG HEIL

  • yes of course, as does every bad german speaking bad guy. :-) at least for you english speaking folks.

  • I: Erhebt Euch, mein Freund.

    V: Ja, mein Imperator.

  • I: Habt Geduld, mein Freund.

  • the voice of the emperor is in german more darker and evil i heart it in english and naja

  • Damals waren synchronisetre Filme richtig gut.

  • I´m from germany, but I think the english original version is much better!

  • @germancoesfeld

Nicht wirklich. Damals waren die Synchros noch gut!

  • i can speak german very good

so i can understand every word.

when you want to know how to write what they speak look at this:

    Emperor:Erhebt euch mein Freund.

    Vader Ja, mein Imperator.

Emperor:Habt Gedult, mein Freund.Irgendwann wird er von ganz allein zu euch kommen....(look at my next comment)

  • @MrDarthVader7

actually he says : "Ihr habt viel erreicht, Lord Vader" and not "Ihr habt wieder Recht, Lord Vader"

  • @CommanderBly

    oh yes ur right..im sorry..

  • Der language von Macht. lol

  • Mien Fuhrer I can Valk!

  • @YourPhilOfCanada

Imagine he actually caled hin "Mein Führer!"

  • Where could I purchase the german version of this movie?

  • In Germany ;)

  • just buy it in europe stors :P

  • The German Amazon site.

  • which star wars movie is this?

  • Return of the Jedi

  • Imperator can possess a number of different meanings in Latin. The first reknowned use of the title had occurred in the early Roman Republic where it was applied to a victorious general. As the Res Publica died and the Principate had been established, only the Caesars could be acclaimed Imperator. During the Principate, the term was much closer to our modern definition of Kaiser or Emperor, but it wouldn't still be used as a monarchic title until the middle 1st century A.D.

  • I like the german voices too but I´m always watching star wars in english ´cause it´s a little bit sad that the german voice of vader is always saying "Mein Imperator" but he never sad "Mein Meister" so the conncection between his master (palpatine) and his apprentice (vader) is not clear in this trilogy for the german audience. So I think it was a mistake from the leader of the synchronization.

Btw in the Prequels there is that mentioned conncection again...very confusing :D

  • imo, german-emperor sounds like a very menacing older man (which is what he was meant to sound like).

  • As to the German speakers of the two characters:

    Darth Vader: Heinz Petruo

    Emperor: Helmut Heyne

  • To the emporer / kaiser discussion: "emperor" was once only a title of a quite high soldier in the army of the roman realm, nothing more. It meant something like "High commander of the troups on the batte field". In german "Feldherr".

It only became a synonomic word for the top guy of the chain with time.

"Kaiser" originally evolved from Caesar. Also the russian word "Zar" evolved from that. Legends say that the famous "Kaiserschnitt" was named after Caesar, cause he was the first born that way.

  • the german voice is the best voice ever

  • @moondream1970 - absolutely!

  • wtf to all the people who think palpatine sounds like hitler...

  • personally, i think hitler had a deep-sounding voice (to me, that sounds more sinister), and then the poor video quality of the 40s made his voice sound the way everyone thinks it did

  • Why did he call him "Emperor"? isn't it supposed to be "Kaiser"?

  • He called him 'Imperator', not 'Emperor'. 'Kaiser' comes from 'Caesar'. That's different.

  • Actually.... in the German Episode IV, the Emperor was called "Kaiser". "Emperor" means "Kaiser". "Imperator" is a latin word which was equal to commander back in the Roman Republic. "Emperor" translates to "Kaiser" in German, but not to "Imperator". It sounds equal but it is not. Look it up on Wikipedia

  • @hollstrom In Episode IV the emporer is reffered to as the "Kaiser" which was changed to "Imperator" for Episode V and VI which is a better term

  • @hollstrom In the book of ep.6 hes called "kaiser"... but a "lightsaber" is also called "lichtsäbel" so... :D:D

  • @hollstrom I learned something today. :-)

  • @hollstrom Imperator, like imperial, imperial ruler.

  • @king4people

in the first German bookversion of the old StarWars Episodes they really call him "Kaiser" and the call the force " die Kraft " ( = power ) not the " Macht" ... and I believe the empire is the "Reich" and not the " Imperium "

  • @king4people the emperor sounds kinda like hitler

  • DasWombat he does

  • Yeah, cause he speaks German? XD

  • Complete bullshit! He doesn´t sound anything like him and from my experience people say "omg he sound just like Hitler" about ANY german speaking person.

  • Not at all.

  • for you guys every German voice sounds like Hitler ;-))) It's actually not even close to Hitler's voice.

  • idiot

  • go fuck youself idiot

  • the emperor has a great voice actor in german!
