judging by the way the sound changed after it bounced, I'd say the bounce put a curve on it. That would explain how the bullet turned to its left after it bounced, in order to close the 3 foot gap from the original line of fire. (you can tell from where the cloud appears on the ground compared to where the gun is pointing) that would also explain how the headset wasnt completely obliterated, the bullet must of hit the rim of his hat which he was wearing backwards, so right above his shoulder.

Actualy you was shootin the iron, i can hear that right after you shoot, so if it's 50 call, then this is one of two, come back to you, a chunck of metal you was shooting, or most likly it is bulet bounce of the thick metal, it often happend, especialy with a 50 call gun. 50 call gun designed to shoot verry far, bulets are wery tough. But you where lucky, you did shoot al little angle, if you would shoot exsact straight, then bulet, would come back direct at you.

He shot a .50 caliber round (used normally against tanks and which SHOULD have penetrated right through the target) at a metal plate, and it bounced off at the perfect angle so that it hit the ground right in front of him, bouncing up a second time to hit his helmet. He could have possibly died.
