  • Here's the lyrics in Chinese:

    如果你是朝露,我願是那小草,

    如果你是那片雲,我願是那小雨。

    終日與你相偎依,於是我將知道,

    當我伴著你,守著你時,會是多麼綺麗。

    如果你是那海,我願是那沙灘,

    如果你是那陣煙,我願是那輕風。

    永遠與你纏綿,於是我將知道,

    當我伴著你,守著你時,會是多麼甜蜜。

  • really think that she should add this to her cd :O

  • I've heard this song before in Cantonese. I didn't know its history. I'm glad I heard this version, really eye-opening. The Chinese songs really bring out the beauty in Vienna's voice. She should add more to her repertoire.

  • ruguo ..., wo ....

    If you ......, I .......

  • Hi, Vienna, you are totally different person when you sing in Chinese, of course, it's more beautiful. Have you consider make a chinese album?

  • What a lovely voice! I really love her Chinese songs....Ru Guo/Green Island Serenade. She has 6 stars!!

  • God she's SOOO hot (and talented and funny and intelligent).

dāng wǒ bàn zhù nǐ shǒu zhù nǐ shí huì shì duōme tiánmì

    /end.

  • actually it should be:

"dāng wǒ bàn zhē nǐ shǒu zhē nǐ shí huì shì duōme tiánmì"

  • Indeed? Thanks for the corrections!

  • @aikilatri Yep! It should be 伴著(zhē)你,守著(zhē)你;not 絆住(zhù)你,守住(zhù)你^_^

  • Attempting lyrics in pinyin!

    (1)

rúguǒ nǐ shì zhāolù wǒ yuàn shì nà xiǎo cǎo

rúguǒ nǐ shì nà piàn yún wǒ yuàn shì nà xiǎo yǔ

dāng wǒ bàn zhù nǐ shǒu zhù nǐ shí huì shì duōme qǐlì

    /cont.

  • "dāng wǒ bàn zhē nǐ shǒu zhē nǐ shí huì shì duōme qǐlì"

  • Whutever Vienna, you wish you had freaky stalker groupies.

  • *sigh* i can only read every other word... my authoritative source says that my canto is getting worse and that my mando is barely above understandable ... i'm turning into a straight up banana! haha

  • Anyone wish to take a stab at an English translation of this?

  • Amazing voice..I love it even though I don't understand a word.

  • Another Mandarin one! yeh! would be so good " if " it's also in one of the albums!

  • @redbluue I see what you did there :D

  • beautiful

  • beautiful! I really wish to hear "Green island", a song from Taiwan from Vienna!

  • Does anyone know where I can get the lyrics to this version of this song (in pinyin)

  • Here are the lyrics in Mandarin Chinese (sorry, no pinyin).

  • Thank you for the lyrics! In English:

If you are dew, I wish to be grass

If you are cloud, I wish to be rain

Cuddle with you all day long / So that I would know

When I'm with you / How beautiful it would be

If you are ocean / I wish to be sand

If you are (smoke?) / I wish to be wind

Linger with you forever / So that I would know

When I'm with you / How sweet it would be

  • @yangie66 Thank you for the translation!

  • Amazing. She sang it better than the original.

  • ratings disabled, so I guess I gotta put my five stars here

    OK, that's five stars...

  • Beautifully sung, and no trace of that American accent along the way. Count me as a new (and rabid) fan.

  • Beautiful! I hope I will have a chance to go to your concert soon.

  • its beautiful :)

  • Oh, this is nostalgic!! I remember being at this performance! And I am among that "certain demographic" the language of this song is aimed at. ;D Good song, part of the amazing night of the performance!

  • Youtube has a lot of versions of this song now, mostly by Chinese singers, and there's a lot of variation in the pronunciation. Mandarin has a lot of dialects. Vienna's pronunciation seems to fit right in with some of them (to my linguistics-student-but-Mandarin-novice ears). So far, I like hers the best, though one of 邰肇玫's versions (the one without the glockenspiel) is nearly as nice. Most of the videos are sappy. I wish youtube had an option for an MP3 version without the video.

  • yup, your mom's right. but don't worry, it's art :3

  • First hear of Vienna Teng on Pacific Fusion TV show the other day. She's a great talent and am glad she is pursuing the arts. As I sit here watching the Academy Awards, I think she has the talent to be on this show one day.

  • Good song and excellent singer. I am a Taiwanese-Japanese. I hope that Vienna Teng will sing more Chinese songs, if possible to sell out an album.

  • @okaclinic - her Mandarin songs are wonderful--such a pity almost all her songs are English

  • Is this posted by the real Viena Teng?

But anyway, I've been liking this voice since 2005! :)

  • 从the tower 这首歌认识她 声音很特别 总是很有感情的唱着 ~ 《如果》 也唱得很好~

  • 唱得不错~

  • It's so beautiful. :D She does an amazing job with this. I'm Taiwanese-American myself, so I was able to understand most of this. It's admirable that she can sing just as well in Mandarin as in English.

  • I love this song, and I love Vienna. Thanks for this clip!

  • yes it is heavily americanized O.O but sound good ^.^

  • Felt compelled to drop a line. Well done! I'm a native Mandarin speaker (born in Taiwan) and I got every single word of you sang! Hey, I'm even old enough to remember when the song first came out in the late 70's! If you ever get the chance to read this Vienna, well done, please do more for your fans! Much love!

  • Dear Mchen

Iam really like this song very much but I do not know who sang it in 70's. Could you help me, pls tell me who sang it so I can find and download from internet. I through that may be DENG LI JUN sang it but maybe it's not correct.

    Pls help

    Thanks

PS: I write this email cause think you cannot read my chinese email

  • This is not a song originally from DENG LI JUN (Teresa Teng), it is a famous song from the late '70 folk song movement at Taiwan. The original singer and song writer is Tai Chou May (邰肇玫), and the lysics is written by Sou Bi Wu (施碧梧).

  • @charlie10614 Thank you for the information!

  • Great performance. Her pronunciation sounds fine. American-Chinese accent is is o worse than Cantonese-accented Mandarin.

  • Comment removed

  • I love it!!.....is awesome!

  • this is awesome.

  • ugh, i can't believe i missed her coming to Berkeley!! she shows to be talented and sweet in the video though ^_^

  • The song "Ru Guo" broght back my fond memories of the 70's in Taiwan, where the "campus folk songs" like this one started.

  • Signs that you've been watching this video a tad much: notice that if you play it in a loop (or just hit play from the end again really fast) it'll look continuous because the video starts and ends with Vienna taking a swig of water. :)

  • Thanks for sharing! I love it!

  • Thanks for sharing! I love this it!

  • i love this one.i'm chinese, she's accent and pronunciation is very correct.
