  • Luc motherfiucking LeMay!

  • this guy speaks the truth!

  • man these guys are so awesome!

  • omg they remind me of metalacolypse!

  • Luc is a really smart guy, just by listening to those interview it helped me compose new music.

  • The 90's sucked, excepted for death metal .w

  • The 90's sucked, excepted for death metal .

  • People forget(or were too young) that this music was a reaction to the"Four to the Floor" techno stuff and the stale Rock/Indie scene that was impossible to escape from at that time. Someone had to reinvent music, the Death Metal guys stepped up to the plate rejected the tired cliches and paved the way for deathcore etc. It was anti Mainstream and proud of it. I just wish that Mindset would come back. These guys had Real Passion unlike Many Current Bands that are only one haircut away from Glee.

  • I bet these guys are awesome to hang out with

  • @mrkaiser1988 The drop tuning comment was a quote, 09musicGOD stated that drop tuning and distortion doesn't count as music. My response stated that tuning alone and an effect shouldn't be the only factor in determining a genre or music as a whole, that there is much more to account for.

  • @mrkaiser1988 cookie cutter structures and chord progressions, songs without substance and corporate control over "artistic" creation.

  • @mrkaiser1988 Obviously you're talking about the "core" style (and current trend) of extreme music, which is irrelevant and has nothing to do with Gorguts or my comment. Gorguts is a Death Metal band, which has been a genre since the mid 80's. Gorguts themselves, pioneers and legends still stay under the radar. My comment to the individual was to counter his bias and narrow minded point of view of "Death Metal." What's unfortunate is the lack of appreciation for skill and praise for those with

  • they could have killer riffs if they learned how to play guitar first...

  • @ghettojuicebox this guy went to school for composition... what the fuck have you done?

  • @ghettojuicebox

Just because they don't use a single Key, scale and time signature like you no doubt do, doesn't mean they don't know how to play the guitar.

  • @ghettojuicebox maybe if you learned to play yourself this would make more sense to you \m/

  • that was pretty cool! interesting stuff to think about.

  • Bordel je savais pas qu'ils étaient québecquois !!! I'm still trapped in The erosion of Sanity, as I can't get away from it's complexity and it's hidden signification, like Suffocation or any good Death band.

And I really don't understand how that album couldn't be successful in the early 90's...

The song itself is just a masterpiece. Venez en France les gars !!

  • 6:29

    ear ring

  • the guitarist has big knees

  • i think the bassist is pissed off

  • the bassist is brad pitt with long hair

  • @SpiritMolecule1 brad pitt from legends of the fall*

    yours truly,

    a 10 year old girl

  • How many strings are on that bass? O.o

  • why did steve leave the band?

  • epic ass bassists.... those fucking fingers

  • Now.. I will say that these guys do have good timing. the key to any good musician is timing, yes, but a talent wasted on playing this muddy distorted junk in my opinion. lol : )

  • @09musicGOD... You suck on so many levels. Good timing? More like great! The arrangement and composition that goes into gorguts songs is rarely equaled... I have never understood the "muddy" distortion argument either... If you have an ear that cares to listen you can hear everything very easily! What I am dying to know is what you actually are basing your criticism on here... I really don't think you have a leg to stand on...

  • @09musicGOD... To sum it all up you will never understand music on the level that Gorguts do... If you can't understand or enjoy what is happening here it is only because you have a low IQ or a narrow mind or both... I suspect the latter... Call me whatever you want or say "all music is equal"... That is like saying a Ferrari is no better than a fucking Honda Civic... There is a difference between "opinion" and FACT....

  • @magister39:

I have this vid in myfaves only so I may check in on what you trashy kids are up to. Sort of like a project of mine.. I give my opinion, you hate me..I find it interesting really.

  • "The ear is the final judge anyways" .

  • Wow, offended much? looks like all the trashy kids are defending this crap they so ignorantly call "music"

    to reiterate:

Adding distortion / drop tuning does not qaulify as "music" in my opinion. yes it is my opinion...though it may be harsh, surely it is not as bad as listening to this crap. I myself am a musician , and i have no tolerance for this..any idiot can play "trash" metal.

    : ) LOL...trashy kids

  • @09musicGOD well, gorguts is neither "trash" nor "thrash". if it's so easy, then try to play a single song by gorguts. they have some of the most fucked up riffs in the universe, that definitely IS something. and on the other hand - why do you have this vid in your favs?:D cheers

  • @09musicGOD Then try it, all I have to say.

  • @09musicGOD This guy is one of those hipster 'musicians' doesn't have a damn ounce of musical understanding in his brain, but he'll brag about his musicianship. I can also tell by his last line that he's a complete retard.

  • @09musicGOD You're just listening to the sound and not what is being created. What is music to you? Eric Clapton? Fucking Charles Mingus and twenty other Jazz Funk greats? For a musician you seem to have a childish view of music. You might have well as said that having long hair while playing music doesn't qualify as music. Maybe it's not 'real music' because they're French Canadian, and they don't make music. Your not judging the book by it's cover, just by the type of font the words are in

  • @09musicGOD List off the time signatures played in Gorguts' Obscura. Then, go listen to Pink Floyd's Learning to Fly (also a good song) on your channel, and tell me what time signatures are played in that song. 4/4? No way!

These are complex, dissonant rhythms being played here and on Obscura & From Wisdom to Hate... music is by definition an organization of sounds, and if you can't see that these sounds are organized, then you don't qualify as a musician by even the lowest of standards.

  • @09musicGOD

My friend, I used to be young and ignorant as well. I absolutely hated this music, how embarrased I feel now having ridiculed one of the most complex and technical genres next to jazz, and if you add the speed factor in some songs, even more so. As a muscian who plays this music, I can attest to the fact that it is not by any means easy. Adding distortion and drop tuning does not qualify as "music" neither does standard tuning and reverb or any other effect you can think of.

  • @09musicGOD the effect and tuning has nothing to do with it. It's the arrangement, the feeling, the phrasing, the ability, the talent necessary to pull this off. Just because it doesn't adhere to your crackerjack mainstream expectation of what "music" is supposed to be doesn't mean it isn't. That is absolutely ridiculous, not to mention your generalization of the people who appreciate this music, completely ignorant. If any idiot can play this I urge you to upload a vid of yourself.

  • Fuckin excellant video. This will help me with my writing.

  • 09musicGOD can't even spell trailer!!! It has an e not an o!!! I bet those "fruits" get more pussy than he ever will!!!

  • 1:40 is similar to what Miles Davis said about the Marsalises.

  • French Canadien, eh?

    Intra limpidus... OBSCURA

  • These are musicians talking about music. Not just guitar/drum/bass player who happens to write a few songs.

  • allright, lets film trailor trash at their peak and post it on youtube...there is no skill in what "this" is...drop tune / add distortion = music ? I think not. and they look a little fruity if you ask me. trashy -trashy-trashy

  • Comment removed

  • @09musicGOD Shouldn't you be on Pitchfork or watching an Arcade Fire video? Just wondering...

  • bass player when he's playing moves like the spooky doctor out of that movie house on haunted hill

  • 6:55 is so spot on, I feel exactly the same way.

    Lemay is a genius.

  • hmmm. i didn't know there was a death metal band that was like this. they're like musical scientists for metal. i still don't like their music, but i sure do appreciate it. im just not smart enough to like them yet lol. but im trying my best, ill soon be a fan

  • Support up and coming death metal! Look up vapid butchery!

  • 4:16 from wisdom to hate!! hahahahaha

  • So happy these guys are coming back on of my favorites.

  • I admire Luc's picking style. It's very fluid, which it needs to be in order to play the sort of stuff he comes up with.

  • Their level of genious makes them seem insane.

  • that guitarist looks like jeff dahmer D:

  • @raven66614 lemay doesn't look anything at all like Jeffery dahmers

  • I really enjoy this. You can tell that these guys are really smart and organized with their approach to death metal.

  • God fucking damn I miss the 90's

  • Luc is like the mad scientist of death metal. Come to think of it even the shit before Obscura is pretty fuckin awesome. The first album is an old school classic, there are some great riffs there too. My point being these guys were always putting out quality music.

  • I fucking love that... I knew he was a schooled musician and shit, but the fact that he uses NONE of that with the guitar is amazing.

  • Goddamn I want Luc's shirt

anyone know where I can find a Gorguts shirt?

  • Maryland Deathfest will probably have some merch since they're playing.

  • This reminds me of what pisses me off about so much new music. Too many new bands just try to be loud, or fast, or sound "heavy", but there isn't any actual content to the tracks they make. They're like "Hey, long-time professional band X can make good music, why don't we just copy what they're doing, but in a pretty much random, unstructured fashion, then have some t-shirts printed up, and we'll be just as good!"

Gorguts are amazing though, and this footage here is really interesting~

  • These guys are such a high level of thinking compared to alot of other death metal bands out there, in terms of structure and composition I don't think there's a better band in metal than Gorguts.

  • @smellyoldplopnamedfr

I agree with the first half of your post, but remember friend, there really is no such thing as '' better ''. only difference :)

  • @smellyoldplopnamedfr i mean... that is what technical death metal is supposed to be about.... -_-

  • @smellyoldplopnamedfr There aren't really much better bands in terms of structure/composition in music in general, not just music

  • @smellyoldplopnamedfr you know what, I think it's a matter of them just not giving a shit other than just being genius about it

  • @smellyoldplopnamedfr I mean they are genius but in their own way

  • Fucking LOVE Gorguts.

  • RIP Steve Mcdonald

  • isnt it funny how how people thikn sum accents are cool but sum are annoying like germans and nords sound cool but french and hispanics sound stupid

  • It would depend on what language the accent is spoken in you moron.

  • there accents are so fuckin cool lol

  • french/canadian

  • dude what was the first song?

  • Comment removed

  • unearthing the past

  • @NileOfBlood6606 i think obscura

  • Whats Steve doing these days?

  • one of the better interviews about "the process" i have ever seen/read

  • man... i have to admit I can't fucking follow what they are playing... way beyond me.

  • Me too it was my english teacher! He change so much !

  • Can you believe that the bassist was my secondary 2 english teacher? :D

  • Whon an English teacher?

  • OBSCURA!!

  • best from Quebec!!!

  • wow Luc has a Berzerker sticker on his guitar

    awesome!

  • So, to all of you who complain about the bass player's accent, lemme ask you this: How good is your French, then? Or any other language, for that matter. So shut the fuck up, unthinking idiot bastards.

  • @nordergute you know France nations is plague for this world. They still have fucking complexes with that they're not the most important country in the world like they have been in 18th century. They're just language chauvinist at all. Nearly.

  • @AlexanderCzu Sigh. What on earth has this got to do with Gorguts or my comment or anything?

  • @nordergute he's french. I've said only truth about his nation.

  • @AlexanderCzu He's a french Canadian, from Quebec.

  • @Neuroneos Yeah..that's not his fault. ;/

  • @nordergute You've got THAT fuckin right brother!

  • @nordergute Yeah seriously i think his accent is fine i don't give a fuck.

  • the bassist looks so spastic while playing :D

  • the left guy on the bass looks like Brad Pitt with long hair!

  • Both Gorguts and Negativa are writting new material. Sweet.

    And hail Luc Lemay

  • Gorguts fuking rules

  • actually the bass parts on this songs are more difficult than guitar ones.

  • Amazing band

  • Steeve has to work on his english lol :p

  • and why would he =/

  • Cause his english is rather bad.. ut it doesn't really matter.. He's a fucking awesome bass player.. Which is all that counts.. Don't get me wrong..

  • Who the fuck cares where they're from? Cryptopsy kicks fucking ass.

  • What year was this??? 01??? Luc is alot fatter now correct??? lol. love u Luc can't wait for the new record???

  • i love gorguts

  • Finally French Canadians gave us something good.

  • wtf how to i keep finding you on all these vids lol?!? qao vadis or however you spell there name and anonymus are pretty good

  • Dude, there are alot of good canadian bands out there, i just think that these guys are the best.

You find me on all these videos, because well i like intelligent, skillful, and of course awesome music.

  • Quo vadis, Martyr, Neuraxis, Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, Augury, Unexpect and many more Dude !

  • I have heard of some of these bands, but some are just unknown to me, i will look them up, thanks.

PS. I think Cryptopsy is just Canadian, not french canadian.

  • Cryptopsy is from Montreal, so yeah they are French canadian

  • they're from Montreal, which is in Quebec ofcourse, so they might very well be French candadian

  • Yeah but do they speak french which is very common in Quebec?

  • the first language in Montreal is French... all the store signs need to be in french first then in english, I think theirs even a law that states that the french sign needs to be bigger than the english one. Montreal however is a melting pot of all sorts of races yet alot of the french here still feel resentment against the english.

  • cryptopsy speak french haha but lord worm has very good english , hes very educated.

  • Really? thats awesome!!!! I never new that, thank you.

  • I believe he's an english teacher as well.

  • hes an english teacher (lord worm that is) trippy eh xD

  • hes an english teacher too lol

  • i think it's safe to take kataklysm off that list

  • @Goup09 AUGURY

  • No shit! REALLY?????? Did he told you who the other musicians are going to be? I wrote him a couple of times at his myspace account, but he never answered back.......Also: he mentioned alot of times that it would come 1 of these days, but that;s something he's telling for the last 7 years at least.

  • these guys have very valid things to say

  • No doubt, or Reno Killerich or Derek Roddy

  • he's jamming with john longstreth

  • Luc is a genius!!

  • Haha right on man! Great times, discovering new bands. I remember that store trip well - Vader's debut, Immolation's debut, Disincarnate, Entombed's 2nd album, Hypocrisy "Penetralia", Incantation's debut, Malevolent's "Retribution", Unleashed's 2nd album, Cannibal's "Butchered At Birth"

  • I bought a handful of new cassettes back in 1992 at a record store and Considered Dead was one of them. I'd never heard of Gorguts at the time, just bought it. I'm glad I did!! Badass

  • Damn, Brad Pitt's smoked a lot of pot.

  • He has a refreshing view on music.

I personally think that some recent death metal is a bit too focused on being insanely technical.

Shit is still shit, no matter how much chunks of sweetcorn is in it.

  • Ok, it's just when you said calves I thought you were reffering to double bass-ing (if that's a word).

  • Huh? Luc doesn't drum thougt.... :/

  • And Obscura.

And holy shit, I came my pants watching this video.

  • this is awesome footage....thanks for putting it on dude.

  • they are back!!!!!! only one original member in new line up in luc

  • they do have John Longstreth which is sweet, BUT they have bassist from behold...the arctupus stupid gay thing

  • HE'S GOOD

  • of what i have seen im not impressed at all

  • Man I know EXACTLY how they feel about trying to write new material without writing it down and discussing it. It's incredibly thought consuming and nerve-wracking. I try convincing my band to write down the riffs, but they never want to haha.

  • puffff... those bitches are just gods to me

  • These dudes kick *SO* much ass!

Been a Gorguts fan for ages.

  • haha they have the most stereotypical french canadian accents. they are amazing though.

  • Fuckin A. I'd relocate in a heartbeat to play drums for these dudes if they ever decided they were going to make another album....steve and luc are pretty much the most amazing combo ever

  • ya know eh?

  • He kicks my ass at bass. But he plays so inadequately.

  • Is it to be a bad comment ? If yes, dude you don't know anything about bass!

  • I seen another video about him trying to teach how to play bass. He's good, I said that, but he plays so strangely and unethical.

  • unethical? I think you mean unconventional

  • pwnage.

  • its leo from that 70's show!

  • hahaha

  • Anyone who thinks death metal is boneheaded noise should watch this.

  • iv only got considered dead and erosion of sanity.

  • They're great, though obscura and wor wisdom to hate are much more innovative.

  • at 2:39 there's the sickest frozen moment where luc looks like he would eat the filmer's innards. lol good shit!

  • lol

  • What's the track playing in the intro? I love that riff!

  • Inverted

  • I found out it's Unearthing The Past.

  • Apparently lots of Gorguts fans hated Obscura, does anyone here dislike it?

  • I love it but I can only listen to one song at a time, it gets a bit much for me. But It's ranked highly in my book.

  • Apparently lots of Gorguts fans are idiots, because Obscura is one of death metal's crowning achievements, and one of the finest albums ever recorded.

  • it has its flaws but its overall a good album

although the first riff of obscura kinda sucks lol

  • my personal gorguts favourite is from wisdom to hate, but obscura is definetely second. FWTH is more...put together, and flows better, IMO.

  • brilliant band

  • Luc Lemay is a fucking genius. RIP Gorguts, your music will not be forgotten.

  • nvm I checked it and they are lol from quebec canada sti !!
